Girl Talk Reviews: Listerine Whitening Quick Dissolving Strips

We spend a lot of time talking about beauty must-haves here at Stiletto Jungle. Sure, there are some beauty items that we don't think we could live without, but for all of our talk about beauty we often take one of the most important beauty accessories for granted. Gleaming white teeth.

Nothing says beauty and health quite like fresh, white chompers. Thankfully there are a lot of do-it-yourself teeth whitening products around to lend a girl a hand. Unfortunately, they are often messy, hard to use, and disgusting tasting. When the Listerine company introduced their new Whitening Quick Dissolving Strips they made some pretty big promises. These new strips not only taste fresh and are easy to use, they actually dissolve when they are done working, just like Listerine Breath Strips dissolve on your tongue. Sounds great, but would they really work? I turned over full-size boxes of Listerine Whitening Quick Dissolving Strips to the ladies of the Stiletto Jungle Girl Talk panel, waited a couple of weeks, and then checked back to see if their smiles were any whiter.

"The Listerine white strips worked amazing. I used it everyday and there is a significant change in my smile," offers Kim, a 23-year-old recent college graduate from La Jolla, California. "My teeth look much whiter! I loved how these strips made my mouth smell and taste minty fresh. This product is better than the Crest Whitestrips that I have used before. Listerine is better because it doesn't bleach your fingers when you apply the strips on your teeth and it doesn't put that awful taste in your mouth. The fact that they dissolved on my teeth was nice, but I still had to brush my teeth to get some excess off my teeth. As far as applying it the strips everyday for two weeks, it was not hard. It became a habit once I started doing it every morning-- I got used to it! I would, and I already did, recommend this product to my friends because of its fresh feeling. The product is worth the marked price for anyone wanting fast results to a whiter smile."

I totally agree Kim. Although I haven't ever tried a whitestrip product, I have used a baking soda and peroxide-based whitening toothpaste twice a day for almost two years. I thought my teeth were white... until I tried these Listerine strips. I actually noticed a difference after the very first day. I've raved about these strips to anyone who would listen ever since.

"I completed the full two week program and have to say that as far as whitening goes... it worked great," chimes in 31-year-old Jennifer, a Long Beach-based nurse. "My teeth are approximately 3 shades whiter and look great!! I also felt that the price was comparable to other whiteners out on the market. I have tried almost every product out there and this worked just as good if not better than Crest Whitestrips, Crest's brush-on whitener, and Rembrandt Whitestrips."

Wow, that's a pretty good review considering you've tried so many of the other at home whitening products on the market. Was there anything you didn't like about the Listerine Whitestrips?

"The only downfall to this product is that you can't exactly do it anywhere, anytime. It also states that you don't have to brush your teeth and claims it is transparent. It is noticeable and makes your teeth look like you've got crap in them. I wouldn't exactly go out shopping with my handy dandy strips on. Also, they claim to dissolve in 15 - 20 minutes... I don't think so. They do dissolve, but not completely. I found that each time they left pieces of the strip stuck to my teeth and so brushing was very necessary. All in all, I found this product to work and do the job at hand, but it did not have the convenience factor they claim. I will use this product in the future."

"I've never really used a whitening product, so I really can't compare these to anything," starts Hannah, a 31-year-old freelance writer. "What I can say is that twice a day for two weeks doesn't sound like much, but it is. So for me it has been more like none to twice a day for three weeks. And the box says they dissolve in 'about 10 minutes.' Well, that's true if 'about 10 minutes' equals 15-20 minutes. Maybe it's different for everyone-- I might be on the low end of the salivary production scale, who knows. The strips are a pain in the patooki to get out of their individual wrapping and the flavor is less Clean Mint than something vaguely reminiscent of swimming pool water, although it's so faint though it wasn't really a problem. All this being said, they worked... very well in fact. I'm close to finishing the entire box and my teeth are very noticeably whiter. I would probably use them again and I would probably recommend them, especially if they're reasonably priced in comparison to similar products. I do wish they'd find a different way to wrap the strips though: 56 foil/plastic wrappers per box multiplied across thousands of users isn't exactly green, is it?"

"I liked the Listerine White Strips," says 34-year-old attorney Tina. "I think my teeth are a little whiter and brighter. The only thing I didn't like was that when they were 'dissolved' I could still feel residue and stickiness on my teeth well after 10 minutes. I commute in the mornings for about 30 minutes and after arriving at work I needed to brush my teeth because I could still feel remnants of the strips on my teeth. I would still buy them again as they were much more convenient than other brands I have tried in the past and less obvious when you had them on. Overall I liked them."

Are they perfect? No. But do they work amazingly well and are they much better than anything else we've tried? A resounding yes. The Stiletto Jungle Girl Talk panel agrees, Listerine Quick Dissolve Whitestrips are a definite beauty must-have!
