SJ (hearts): Jessica Cushman Bracelets
So, exactly how fabulous do you have to be for Chanel to rip off your designs? Just as fabulous as Jessica Kagan Cushman. Her now famous scrimshaw bracelets were unceremoniously knocked off by Chanel in early 2007. Although Chanel can typically do no wrong in the eyes of the fashion press, no one was letting them get away with stealing the witty, inventive designs of such a fresh new talent in jewelry making.
Good thing Jessica doesn't give up easily, because the second season resin reproductions of her fabulous scrimshaw bracelets recently hit the stores and they are even better than her original designs. The combination of elegant, meticulously reproduced scrimshaw design and witty sayings such as "Does this bracelet make me look fat?" and "Are you a good witch or a bad witch?" make these little works of art absolutely irresistible. Style so inventive that even Chanel tried to copy it for a mere $130... truly fabulous.
