New & Hot: Puma for American Eagle Outfitters

Tuesday, January 26, 2010 • Permalink •

Fashion label collaborations are becoming pretty standard these days. A favorite high-end designer may collaborate with the local discount store, or a more avant guard designer might collaborate with a mainstream label, or a streetwear label may hook up with a mall staple store. The creativity of the combinations always amaze me, and tend to result in designs that offer a fresh perspective on one or both of the collaborators. This new collaboration I stumbled across may not be the most "out there" combination of labels, but the result is fun and fresh nonetheless.

Puma for American Eagle Outfitters melds a sporty European athletic label with an all-American young adult mall outlet-- the result was almost guaranteed to be unique. And unique it is. The shoes found in this limited time collaboration take the classic Puma look and turn up the volume with sassy color and texture combinations. These shoes are perfect for kicking around on the weekend. Check out all of the new Puma for American Eagle Outfitters sneakers:

New & Hot: Jimmy Choo 24:7 Collection

Monday, January 25, 2010 • Permalink •

If you are anything like me, your shoe wardrobe is full of amazing finds that go just right with a select outfit or two, but somehow a little light on those classic finds that go with everything. Strangely, acquiring investment-worthy iconic shoe shapes takes a lot more planning and effort than picking up the first flashy style that turns your head. But, if Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon has her way, building a classic shoe wardrobe will become as easy as flipping through a single strategically-designed collection.

The new Choo 24:7 Collection from Jimmy Choo is designed as the "perfect shoe wardrobe," with updated versions of Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon's favorite styles made available in a variety of colors and heel heights. The tightly edited collection aims to take the stylish everywoman from day to evening, work to play, and everywhere in between.

The selections available are being billed as the definitive assortment of iconic Jimmy Choo shapes: The 'Icons', the 'Perfect Platforms', the 'Perfect Pointy-toe Pump', the 'Perfect Round-toe Pump', the 'Perfect Flat', the 'Perfect Wedge' and the 'Perfect Evening'. After taking a close look at the Choo 24:7 Collection, I can't disagree. There's a classic shoe for just about every occasion. Each shoe style will complement a range of fashion ensembles and is capable of being used in a variety of situations. Check out this video of Tamara Mellon explaining her inspiration in creating the Choo 24:7 Collection:

its-laS-tik reusable grocery bags
its-laS-tik bags

$14.99 - $24.99
Available at: whatsurbag-usa.com

I think living in the super eco-conscious San Francisco bay area is rubbing off on me. I've recently become obsessed with taking reusable grocery bags to the store with me. I've found that they are not only the conscientious option, but they are also way more durable than disposable bags and their use results in a nifty store credit at my local supermarket. But, I do have an issue with the reusable grocery bag option. Those standard issue organic cotton bags are ugly.

Enter its-laS-tik by what’Surbag. Please don't be disturbed by the name. It's a mouthful, but I'll cope with the crazy name in order to tell you about these stylish reusable grocery bags. Available in a range of solid colors, patterns and trendy metallics, these stretchy grocery bags are perfect for the eco-fashionista.

The its-laS-tik bag is made from a special flexible nylon and lycra fabric blend, so it's stretchy and bouncy-- perfect for those of us who walk to the grocery store. Plus, these multi-purpose bags support a great cause. The entire line is manufactured in a New Orleans factory rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina, and a percentage of sales is donated to Hope House in New Orleans.

Click through the photo to link directly to where you can purchase its-laS-tik reusable grocery bags online. Medium bags are 12" x 13" and cost $14.99; large bags are 15” x 16” cost $24.99.

Fashion Cents: The Winter Fur Trend

Wednesday, January 20, 2010 • Permalink •

--By Kimberly Turner

The fall / winter season is coming to a close as evidenced by the approaching Fashion Week Fall / Winter 2010. There were so many cool trends this season; from bib necklaces to sheath dresses to over the knee boots. While I can understand if you passed on a few of these trends, like the over the knee boots – you just couldn’t look like Apollonia in Purple Rain – I hope you didn’t pass on the fur trend for three reasons:

• First, fur is always in style. Not everyone can afford it but those that can would never say “it’s out of style.” This season brought us cool faux fur that is sure to remain a staple in our closets. Unless, of course, you bought it too cheap and it is already falling apart.

• Second, fur is warm. With this wickedly cold weather that we have experienced across the country this year, everyone should want an extra layer of warmth.

• Third, fur is very versatile. It is as versatile as that little black dress. In fact, wear it with the little black dress to add more luxe to your outfit.

Now if you didn’t indulge in the trend yet, it is not too late. Whew! Hit the end of season sales and find a real or faux fur to be your companion for years to come. Make sense?

P.S. Need more convincing? Watch the video for other great ways to wear fur.

Elle's Joe Zee Curates Rue La La Boutique

Wednesday, January 20, 2010 • Permalink •

Ahh, Joe Zee... how do I love thee? Let me count the ways...

Everyone's favorite Creative Director, Joe Zee of Elle magazine, has curated a special boutique for invite-only online sample sale purveyor Rue La La. This special boutique is being promoted as a companion to Elle magazine's Make Better program, which is designed to create a better you in 21 days via fitness, fashion and beauty. The Joe Zee Rue La La boutique will feature key investment pieces that will "update your wardrobe and amplify your personal style."

The Joe Zee boutique premieres on January 20th at 11 a.m. EST / 8:00 a.m. PST and will be open for only 48 hours, but I'm guessing it's going to sell out long before that time. The selection available includes Joe Zee's 14 must-have pieces from designers such as Nanette Lepore, Robert Rodriguez and CC Skye.

Joe Zee Boutique at Rue La La

Although everyone's lips are sealed on the actual contents of the boutique, we did get this preview of Joe Zee's thoughts on the pieces he chose:

• "A little does a lot." Trends aren’t just for twenty-somethings. The trends we see on the runway do have their place in your closet when subtly incorporated, like ruffles at the hem of a dress or studs on a handbag.
• "Un-basic basics." These neutrals and classic pieces (think, white button down and perfect jeans) are an essential fashion canvas. Updated designs and cuts take it up a notch.
• "Get out the paintbrush." If you’re not ready for a big burst of color, tip-toe in with a bold accessory, like a bright, oversized clutch. Braver souls may try the universally flattering jewel tone dress.
• "Details, details." Fun, statement necklaces. Big, woven satchels. Those pieces that make you say “Wow. Wow. Wow.”

I can't wait to see the actual picks! Click on the photo above to head straight to Rue La La to check out the collection; you'll be directed to your login page. Don't worry if you don't have an invite to Rue La La-- just click here first to snag your insta-invite courtesy of Stiletto Jungle.

Smart New Nail Product & Polish Finds

Orly Flash Dry Quick Dry Shine Drops
Orly Flash Dry Drops

$6.99
Available at: sallybeauty.com

My best friend, Stacy Simmons, is product development manager at Orly Beauty and she has turned me on to some nail products that are worth writing about. Working hard to improve existing Orly products and come up with new creative ones, Stacy has hit the hammer on the nail with Orly’s new Flash Dry Quick Dry Shine Drops. I’ve mentioned many times how annoying it is to get chipped nails, on top of how bad it looks, and I officially found another worthwhile quick dry product. After trying the Flash Dry drops I have continued purchasing it for both me and my mom. Orly has taken something complicated and made it simple and easy for the user. Don’t get me wrong, I still love Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat, but the Orly is an alternative.

Both fast dry products get the job done. The difference between the Orly and the Seche Vite is the thickness of the product and the application process. The Orly Flash Dry is a drop instead of another coat, making it less of a hassle. The Seche Vite requires you to keep your hands still and straight, while Orly’s Flash Dry is quicker and simpler. I recommend having both around: Seche Vite for when you have longer time to do your nails, and Orly for when you are about to head out the door. Typically the Seche VIte works better for a long lasting manicure, while Orly is a quicker fix.

Sephora NAILS Nail Polish Remover
Sephora Nail Polish Remover

$4.00 - $9.00
Available at: sephora.com

Moving backwards to nail polish color, I have to showcase one of my new favorite nail polish colors from Orly. This color is from Orly’s Once Upon A Time collection and it's called “Mirror Mirror.” This sexy, dramatic creamy grey has turned a lot of heads, believe it or not! I’ve been wearing it for the last couple of weeks and men are complimenting me left and right. It’s weird to get that kind of a reaction from a nail polish color. There are 6 different shades, including Mirror Mirror, in the collection. They are all very unique in their own way. With dazzling, one-of-a-kind nail polish color you will want to pass food across the dinner table. Get polished with shades that will get your creative juices flowin’.

And, when you try on whimsical polish that you can’t stand, try taking it off with Sephora’s acetone-free Nail Polish Remover. This particular polish remover gets the polish off without stripping your nails. It is known for moisturizing and hydrating nails, instead of making your nails ashy.

New & Hot: Old Navy Workout Clothes Under $20

Monday, January 18, 2010 • Permalink •

Old Navy Women's Fold-Over Yoga Capris
Fold Over Yoga Capri

$12.00 (was $16.50-- save 27%!)
Available at: oldnavy.com

I hate spending money on workout clothes. I've heard all of the people who say that investing in stylish workout clothes will make you more motivated at the gym, but I refuse to believe that having a drawer full of $75 high-tech running tops will motivate me any more than the plain-jane heather grey sports bra I normally sport. So, I have exactly one workout outfit, which I wash and recycle throughout the week. Would I like to have a few workout outfits to choose from? Of course! Will I invest hundreds on that pursuit at the expense of adding to my shoe collection? Not on your life. But, I've found a compromise.

Old Navy just introduced a line of workout clothing that is colorful, affordable, functional and thankfully devoid of obnoxious logos. The Old Navy Activewear line includes both yoga-appropriate styles and items that are designed for more high-impact activities like running or cardio time at the gym. From yoga pants of all lengths, to running tops with built-in sports bras, to windbreakers-- the new Old Navy activewear line covers all the bases.

And, it gets better. In honor of the launch, Old Navy is having an activewear extravaganza sale through January 21. All Goga bottoms and sports bras are $12, graphic tees are $10 and jackets are priced from $15-$20. I'll be stocking up.

New & Hot: Victoria's Secret Love Rocks Perfume

Monday, January 18, 2010 • Permalink •

Taylor Momsen at Victoria's Secret Love Rocks Launch
The newest fragrance from the ever-expanding label Victoria's Secret has a notable distinction-- it's the first VS product launch to be fronted by a celebrity rather than a Victoria's Secret model. But, after reading more about the new Victoria's Secret Love Rocks fragrance I can see why your standard, gorgeous lingerie model wasn't quite the right look.

Love Rocks is presented with the tag line "Wild at heart. A punk princess. Rock chic meets tres chic." Yeah, there's not a single curvy VS model who could pull that one off with a straight face. Does this mean that Victoria's Secret is going to move in a whole new direction, abandoning the disturbingly perfect lingerie model in favor of a look with a little more attitude? Doubtful. But, it is kind of fun to see Victoria's Secret make a little effort to reach out to those of us who don't seek to embody the bombshell aesthetic. Love Rocks launched this past week with teenage rebelette Taylor Momsen, best known as social climbing Little J in Gossip Girl, as the spokesperson. This photo is from the NYC launch party.

Victoria's Secret Love Rocks Perfume
Love Rocks Eau de Parfum

$39.00
Available at: victoriassecret.com

Now, down to the details that matter-- is this fragrance any good? I haven't had the chance to test drive Love Rocks myself, so I read up on the components of the scent. Love Rocks is classified as a Fruity Floral. The top notes include bergamot, peony and raspberry sorbet. Middle notes are comprised of sandalwood flower, jasmine, peach nectar, plum and stephanotis, with a dry-down base of golden amber, violet, cashmere musk and vanilla. Altogether, it doesn't sound like a bad blend. I'm fond of the way bergamot and amber play together-- definitely a less girly-girl scent combo-- and there isn't an overly-floral rose or lily in sight.

Love Rocks is available in store and online. The $39.00 Eau de Parfum comes in a stylish red lacquer bottle with tattoo-inspired graphics and a signature VS atomizer adorned with a removable black faux leather rosette. Love Rocks is also available in a scented mist for $22.00. Click through the photo above right to link directly where you can learn more about Love Rocks, or purchase directly, at Victoria's Secret online.

SALE: French Connection Bambi Sweater $25

Thursday, January 14, 2010 • Permalink •

French Connection Bambi Sweater
French Connection Bambi Sweater

$25.00 (was $88-- save 43%!)
Available at: frenchconnection.com

The huge French Connection sale on now is a treasure trove of fabulous deals, but this one particular sale find stood out above the rest as the must-have sale find. You might end up kicking yourself if you don't take advantage of this one.

The French Connection Bambi V-Neck sweater is a great all-purpose, lightweight sweater. It's made from a viscose / nylon / acrylic blend that sounds hideous, but is actually a nice casual blend that French Connection does quite well. I have a French Connection slouchy sweater in this blend and it hangs nicely and resists wrinkling.

The Bambi sweater is available in 7 colors, in sizes XS to L, all of which are currently in stock and all of which are on sale for only $25. This is a smart opportunity to snag a couple basic sweaters from a reputable label, for not a lot of money.

Click on the photo to link directly to where you can purchase the French Connection Bambi Sweater online and on sale.

3 Ways to Get In Shape Without Leaving Home

Xtreme Cardio Dance Workout
Xtreme Cardio Dance 4-DVD Workout

$39.95
Available at: buyxtremecardio.com

When the Victoria's Secret Sale comes around it’s hard to avoid staring at the gorgeous pictures of the models and wondering whether I will ever look that good in their bras. I never thought the day would come where I would be sitting in front of my TV doing workout videos, but it did. I have seen some great results from workout DVDs and I’d love to share the secret. Plus, the nice thing is you don’t have to leave your house to get your sweat on.

A couple months ago my friend Alexis, who just had a baby, was telling me about Exercise TV, and how this enabled her to lose weight fast and easy. I was so impressed by her phenomenal results that I had to see what it was all about. I tuned in and, sure enough, after my first day of doing a 15-minute video I could barely move. My core was so sore, but it was a wonderful feeling to know it was already working!

Exercise TV has various workout videos from 15 Minute Abs to Carmen Electra’s In the Bedroom video. I love the endless options and the monthly changes-- just in case you get bored easily! Exercise TV is available through 9 different providers-- definitely a great idea if you like to get your way with a click of a button.

PS90X Home Fitness
PS90X Home Fitness Program

$150.40
Available at: beachbody.com

If getting Exercise TV is not an option, check out Jaana Kunitz's fun Xtreme Cardio Dance DVDs. They will make working your bod so much more enjoyable. This is an awesome way to get in shape while picking up some sassy moves for the dance floor. Jaana knows how to work it, and it’s evident through her 4-disc DVD set. The four DVDs cover Latin, hip hop, and disco dance routines, and a body sculpting session. Jaana Kunitz is a 10-time International Latin Champion whose dance picks truly get your body in shape with motivating tunes.

If you are an extremist, and you are ready to get lean and mean in less than two months, I highly recommend the P90X Extreme Home Fitness workout. The P90X workout is a 90 day program that takes you from “regular to ripped.” Sound bold? My close sources say the claim is absolutely correct. But, before you get too excited, it doesn’t come without 100% commitment. The program comes with 12 workout videos, a comprehensive 3-phase nutrition plan, specially designed supplement, detailed fitness guide, a calendar to track progress, and an online peer support group. The videos are guided by personal trainer Tony Horton, who will do more than motivate you. For more info check out the site, and see for yourself if you're up to the challenge that will change your lifestyle and your look for the better.

New & Hot: Whistles Boiled Wool Slash Jumper

Wednesday, January 13, 2010 • Permalink •

Whistles Boiled Wool Slash Jumper
Whistles Wool Slash Jumper

$186.97
Available at: asos.com

Slashed and sliced clothing could, and very often does, appear cheap. Or entirely too young, like something out of one of those low-end teen stores at the mall. But, this Boiled Wool Slash Jumper from UK boutique label Whistles vibes low-key cool. And that makes it worth a second look.

It's really kind of phenomenal how the conservative boiled wool fabric turns the slashed motif from rocker to relaxed. I'd pair this sweater with skinny jeans and slouchy boots for a weekend look that is unique. A stand out sweater like this new arrivals find is proof that you don't have to sacrifice comfort to look fashionable on your day off.

Whistles is currently knee-deep in an effort to completely renew an re-invigorate the brand. FOUND: Fashionable Workout Wear

PUMA Women's Speed Cat SD US Sneaker
Puma Speed Cat

$74.95
Available at: endless.com

It’s the New Year and nothing feels better than getting it off to a great start! Working out should be part of most people's lifestyle, but sometimes its easy to fall off the health path. My biggest workout motivator is wearing workout clothes that are cute and tight to motivate me to embrace the sweat. This year I would also like to pick up some other healthy habits besides my karate training, and try to play more tennis. One step in the right direction is purchasing an adorable tennis dress.

Nike Dri-FIT Women's Tennis Dress is absolutely fabulous. Talk about being fashionable while running around! This is a spin on the typical racerback tennis dress-- the ruffle front gives this dress what it needed to take it to the next spicy level. Imagine kickin’ major butt on the tennis court with this dress on? I’m smiling just thinking about it. This dress will motivate you to set up a hot tennis date. But, before you commit to the dress, remember to get a smaller size because it tends to run very large.

Women: Supersoft hoodie - light heather gray
Gap Supersoft Hoodie

$39.50
Available at: gap.com

To get my feet looking just as fashionable, I purchased the everyday Puma Speed Cat shoe. This isn’t a running shoe, but a great shoe that can be worn while doing softer exercises. They’re comfortable and nice looking, and who wouldn’t want that? I’ve been wearing this style for many years and I just can’t get enough of this basic shoe. Check out the different colors and style variations.

If you’re looking to for a bust-enhancing top that will prevent the girls from bouncing around while sweating, you may want to consider purchasing the heart shaped flattering Karma Racerback tank by Lucy. The tank has a shelf bra with removable pads, in case you like being extra busty when working out. The 4-way stretch helps keep it comfortable and the flab hidden (which will hopefully be gone in no time!).

Layer your work out look with a cool jacket from Gap. The Gap Supersoft Hoodie is a cotton blend that will be nice to throw on at the beginning of a walk, and take off when the sweat starts dripping. This is a reliable sweater for lots of different occasions.

Start the New Year with some fun work out gear and you’ll be mentally and physically ready to take on 2010! Happy New Year!

6 Books for Style Resolution Success in the New Year

Monday, January 11, 2010 • Permalink •

What You Wear Can Change Your Life by Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine
What You Wear Can Change Your Life

from $0.95
Available at: amazon.com

A new year means a new outlook, right? You've got your resolutions all in a row. And, like most devout fashionistas, I bet you've got a style resolution or two tucked away on your list. Right there next to the standard resolution to eat more healthy, the vow to exercise every day at the crack of dawn and the Bridget Jones-style promise to avoid all emotional fuckwits. Well, at least the style resolution stands the chance of making it past January.

Whether you've decided to finally clean out your overstuffed closet, or have set out on a full-blown fashion identity quest, there's sure to be a guide that's perfect for helping you to achieve style resolution success. Here are some favorites direct from my own bookshelf. Happy reading.

1. What You Wear Can Change Your Life - by Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine - from $0.95
This out-of-print wonder is still my favorite book for the basics of putting together an outfit that is flattering. The best part is a super in-depth, illustrated explanation of which colors go well together. I can't recommend it enough.

2. The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own - by Nina Garcia - $14.95
If you've resolved to build a classic wardrobe that will serve you well for years, this is your book. Nina Garcia has created a classic wardrobe shopping list that is second to none.

3. The Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Style: How to Wear Iconic Looks and Make Them Your Own - by Kim France and Andrea Linett - $19.80
If you already have a good idea of your personal style-- from California girl, to Euro chic, to rocker-- and want to refine and expand on that look, this book has your back. It details how to build a wardrobe that reflects each style, regardless of budget, and how to remix the pieces for endless options.

4. Who What Wear: Celebrity and Runway Style for Real Life - by Hillary Kerr and Katherine Power - $12.89
If you are still floundering in fashion, envying those who have a defined style, then check out this book. While it covers trend interpretation from all angles, its pages on finding style inspiration are particularly useful.

5. That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels and Everything in Between - by Victoria Beckham - $14.36
If you've always wanted to exude style in everything you do, take a few pointers from Victoria Beckham. While not all of her advice is practical, you'll find more than a few gems on how to do everyday situations a little more stylishly-- from heading to work, to picking up the kids at school, to long-distance flying.

6. Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty, & Everything Glamour - by Rachel Zoe and Rose Apodaca - $6.40
Want to live the life of a luxe glamour girl... or at least look like you do? Rachel Zoe's book is full of tips for creating a super glamorous, red carpet-style persona.

Lucky + TheOutnet.com Going, Going, Gone Sales

Lucky Magazine - January 2010
It's kind of like a shopaholic love story. The biggest and best shopping magazine meets the online outlet of one of the web's hottest fashion sites. It's a match made in heaven. Sparks fly. Fabulousness ensues.

Starting Friday, January 8, and running each Friday for four weeks, Lucky Magazine and TheOutnet.com-- Net-a-Porter's online outlet-- will present exclusive Going, Going, Gone sales just for Lucky Newsletter subscribers. Sale-goers will have the chance to snap up big-name designer merchandise at super-low prices, such as a 3.1 Phillip Lim jacket or a Mulberry bag.

TheOutnet.com
TheOutnet.com's weekly Going, Going Gone sales are one of the website’s most popular events. During each 60-minute sale, the price keeps dropping, and when it lands at a price you like, you buy. This allows shoppers to purchase fabulous products at a price they want to pay. "Stock is limited, competition is fierce and stakes are high. How low will you go to get what you want?" as explained on the site. I've participated. It's basically designer sale-shopping chicken. So fun.

Want to give it a go? Head over to the special Lucky + TheOutnet.com Going, Going, Gone site and sign up. Then check back each Friday at 12:00 p.m. EST / 9:00 a.m. PST to play the shopping game. Today's item up for grabs is a fun See by Chloe Strappy Shoulder Bag. Good luck... may the good shopping karma be with you.

Smart Post-Holiday Sale Finds

J.Crew Petite wool ribbon script coat
J.Crew Petite Wool Ribbon Coat

$159.99-$220.00
(was $275-- save up to 41%)
Available at: jcrew.com

What gal doesn’t like to get awesome deals after the holiday season? I must say, as nice it is to see family and friends during the holiday season, I’m so glad it’s over! The stress is gone, and there is a wonderful year ahead. I love the sales in January and take full advantage of it. I love stocking up on jackets in January and February because they are still useful in the upcoming months, and they're great to get on sale! The only downfall is that sale items go quick and there are fewer sizes to choose from, so, hurry up and check out my fab finds!

I didn’t find ordinary jackets, but several that are breathtaking! If you’re going to splurge at the beginning of a New Year it’s nice to be confident that the investment will take you to a better fashion place. In addition, that’s why all my selections are on sale. Now smile and take it all in.

Ella Moss Studded Scarf Vest
Ella Moss Scarf Vest

$59.63 (was $155-- save 62%!)
Available at: barneys.com

The Petite Wool Ribbon Script Coat from J.Crew is to die for! The wool peacoat is anything but ordinary. The above-the-knee jacket is a convenient length to wear into fall, and I adore the cascading ribbon down the front of the jacket. The hidden snap closure is nice and useful in order to show off the dramatic look by centering the tucked and folded ribbon-- It’s a no brainer, I love it!

Keep your chest warm and your love handles covered with a sexy punk-rocker Studded Scarf Vest! The Ella Moss jersey vest with scarf is longer than the typical vest, making it easier to wear with tight leggings and skinny jeans... at almost 1/3 of the previous price! Keep in mind, at this price they are going fast, and currently there is only small and medium available.

I haven’t forgotten about leather, ladies... I just saved it for last. It’s hard to describe this form-fitting, buttery smooth leather jacket. The INC International Concepts Leather Band Jacket is light and undeniably flattering. The notched lapel with button details, and flap pockets along with padded shoulders give this leather beauty its charming effect.

Sale: BCBG Urban Rock Zippered Clutch 61% Off

BCBGMAXAZRIA Urban Rock Zippered Clutch
BCBG Urban Rock Zippered Clutch

$94.98 (was $248-- save 61%!)
Available at: smartbargains.com

I'm a sucker for zipper details. I totally blame it on watching Jeffrey Sebelia compete on season three of Project Runway. It was all about that amazing zipper-detail dress he made. I had never really seen zippers used as a non-functional detail in that way before and I was instantly transfixed. Now I zero in on every zipper-detail item I see, for better or worse.

Well, here's a zipper-detail find from the "better" side. The chic, fabulous Urban Rock Zippered Clutch from BCBG will definitely add a little spice to your handbag wardrobe. This tumbled leather frame clutch features goldtone zipper details and a hidden magnetic closure to keep everything in place. I think this fun clutch is perfect for pairing with a tee and skinny jeans for an effortless daytime punky vibe, or with a basic cocktail dress for a little added visual interest. While it lasts, it's also available at 61% off retail price, which is always a nice treat.

Click on the photo to link directly to where you can purchase the BCBG Urban Rock Zippered Clutch online and on sale.

Fashion Cents: Stylish Sheath Dresses

Wednesday, January 06, 2010 • Permalink •

--By Kimberly Turner

Simple

Hip

Elegant

Ageless

Trendy

Harmony

As I laid out these words to describe the sheath dress, I almost felt like I was contradicting myself. Can something really be elegant and trendy? Simple and hip? Well, believe it or not, this dress fits into all of those categories.

The sheath dress has become trendy and hip thanks to First Lady Michelle Obama (her signature style) and the highly rated series Mad Men. Stores are now packed with them in every color and fabric imaginable.

But even when dressing presidential is out and Mad Men has been replaced by a new series that we can’t wait to emulate the styles, sheath dresses will still be in style. You might not find them in every color and fabric but I guarantee you the basic black sheath dress will still be available, it is ageless.

Too conservative for you? Think of the sheath dress as a canvas for your creativity. The beauty of this dress is that it is simple and it can add a harmony to your wardrobe that is consistent with your personality and style. Funk it up with textured hose and boots or keep it elegant by adding a single string of pearls and wearing it with low heel pumps. Watch the video for more ways to wear the sheath dress.

Now go add a sheath dress or two to your wardrobe. It is a staple that every well dressed woman should have in her wardrobe regardless of her style and that’s NOT a contradiction.

Fashion Classics: The Brooch

Tuesday, January 05, 2010 • Permalink •

--By Kim Moshtaghi

NADRI Silvertone Crystal Pave Feather Brooch
Nadri Pave Feather Brooch

$68.00
Available at: lordandtaylor.com

Since I am on a mom binge lately, how could I fail to partake in an old fashion trend? The brooch is something I have seen many generations of women embrace with pride. The brooch can add a touch of class to anything as décor, or it can be used to pin together the top of a shawl. There are many creative things you can do to utilize the brooch to its fullest potential. For example, I often hang my Chanel brooch from my pearl strands or around my chunky bracelets to change it up and give it some extra sass. You can even place a brooch on your hair tie to add some cuteness to a ponytail. With many possibilities how could you go wrong? Even Elizabeth Taylor didn’t retire her brooches after leaving all her men. The tough part is finding brooches because usually they are passed down or found at random times. Here are my successful finds…

I’m going to start with a simple brooch to avoid overwhelming some of you. The first brooch is from Nadri. They always do a good job with any crystal pave accessory. The Pave Feather Brooch is perfect to place around a shawl or a buttonless cardigan. This would look lovely on a crisp collared shirt as well. This simple brooch can be passed on years later because of its elegance and versatility. The feather design has a solid center and all over crystal pave at the feather tips. The shape can be used to pin horizontal or vertical-- I think it would be classic as a necklace as well. The best part is being able to get multiple looks out of one simple brooch!

Statements by Amy Kahn Russell Drusy and Agate Sterling Silver Brooch
Statements by Amy Kahn Russell Brooch

$169.90
Available at: hsn.com

Keeping it simple with a small twist, I fell for this Avalaya Flower Bridal Faux Pearl Crystal Flower Brooch. The center of the flower pin has a small pearl which is surrounded by the cubic zirconia petal outlined with black. The clear, black and white contrast is a smart way to add fanciness to a dress. If you have a skinny belt that you hardly wear, pinning this flower brooch in the side would be a nice touch to freshen up and soften the look of an outdated belt.

Lastly, Statements by Amy Kahn Russell has a Drusy and Agate statement brooch that is bold and edgy. The three stones of this brooch flow well together. The top stone is a rectangular cushion-shaped drusy followed by a square cushion shaped dyed agate cabochon. The third stone is a pear shaped drusy dangle that completes this gorgeous rope-textured pin.
