A Perfect Cashmere Camel Sweater for Winter

Wednesday, October 27, 2010 • Permalink •

Only Mine V-Neck Cashmere Camel Sweater

A classic, luxe cashmere camel sweater is pretty high up on the must-have list for Fall and Winter 2010. Here's a chance to snag the season's most in-demand sweater look, in 2-ply cashmere, for under $60. Pretty fab, right?

Ever since Chloe showed amazing, rich camel sweaters and trousers in their Fall 2010 RTW runway show, the fashion world has been singing the praises of the simple camel sweater. I just found this super affordable classic v-neck in the Nordstrom new arrivals section and it's a near perfect specimen of the ideal camel sweater for 2010 -- slim, lightweight, classic, and luxe.

The Only Mine V-Neck Cashmere Camel Sweater is available in both regular and petite sizes x-small to x-large and, in case you've already scored your fall camel sweater, this bargain priced sweater is available in nine other gorgeous colors.

→ Buy the Only Mine V-Neck Cashmere Camel Sweater, $59.00, at nordstrom.com

New & Hot: Fresh Brown Sugar Lip Polish

Wednesday, October 27, 2010 • Permalink •

Fresh Brown Sugar Lip Polish
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment is an amazing product (and a huge best-seller), so it really doesn't surprise me that they've been expanding the line lately. First they rolled out two shades of lightly tinted Sugar Lip Treatment-- Rose and Plum-- and now Fresh is offering a brand new Brown Sugar Lip Polish.

Fresh Brown Sugar Lip Polish is an exfoliating and conditioning treatment designed to leave lips soft and smooth. The formula features real brown sugar crystals to buff away dry flakes, plus oils of meadowfoam seed, jojoba seed, and grapeseed for moisture. The cost is the exact same as the original Lip Treatment, $22.50. Yes, it's a little more than a drugstore lip polish, but Fresh's products are always worth it.

→ Buy the new Fresh Brown Sugar Lip Polish, $22.50, at sephora.com.

Fashion Cents: The Animal Print Trend

Wednesday, October 27, 2010 • Permalink •

--By Kimberly Turner

It's funny, every season there is a declaration that some animal print is in trend. But, I have to admit that this season, it really is a key trend. You will find animal print in underwear to outerwear and EVERYTHING in between. So here are a few tips to help you wear this trend well and keep you from looking like you should be caged in:

  1. Break it up -- if you go full body, DON'T accessorize with the print too unless you want to fit into the wild.

  2. Accessorize only -- a great pair of animal print flats can "purr"ty up your all black ensemble.

  3. Scale down -- and not the wall but the print! If you are small don't go with huge prints and if you have a fuller figure don't chose a tiny pretty.
Now, check out the video to see what I'm talking about and then you should be ready to make them growl. Make sense?

3 Loud Earrings to Balance Your Winter Bulk

Tuesday, October 26, 2010 • Permalink •

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Trina Turk Cleopatra Drop Earrings
Chunky sweaters and tall, chunky boots seem to be consuming fashion lately and, although it’s appropriate in the cold weather, it’s difficult to work with a non-existing neckline. To solve this “stuffy” issue, try grabbing a nifty pair of earrings to amplify your winter look and prevent from looking like a Pillsbury dough girl. Show off your fashion sense with a bulky pair of earrings that will not only prove you have good taste, but balance out your winter clothing.

I usually pick daintier earrings for the summer because I like them, but most of all because they're convenient to wear to and from work. But when fall/winter hits, I prefer hints of color and definitely more shapely earrings. I figure if a sweater hides my silhouette, I might as well have attention-grabbing earrings to make up for it.

Bebe seems to have sexy down, and their Double Snake earrings prove that. I own a pair of these sassy, dangly earrings and they haven’t let me down. The only thing that will help show off this pair is by letting your guard down and putting your hair up with this pair of mesmerizing earrings. The two snakes intertwine, creating a cool, wide earring with crystal accents to define the design. Any outfit will look venomous when wearing this intricate earring. This is a great way to make last year's beat-up sweater look like this year's number one trend.

Banana Republic Cabernet chandelier earring
If the gloomy weather is bringing you down, don’t let the funk affect your style. Grab an earring with a hint of color. Try Trina Turk's Cleopatra drop earrings that exude seductive Egyptian elegance with a humble twist. The earrings are also shaped like a twisted snake but have a pinch of color with pink charms hanging from the design. I love the combination of bright yellow gold and the loud pink-- perfect to go along with a grey day.

Grey days may be here, but so are all the Christmas lights and decorations! Every year it seems so weird when transitioning from fall into winter. It always seems so sudden and unexpected. But, one thing that always manages to put a smile on my face is Christmas lights and anything that reminds me of the season. Chandelier earrings are a stable for winter time and make an appearance year after year. I’m diggin’ the bright-yet-classy Banana Republic Cabernet Chandelier earring. Wear them to every holiday party or not, but either way you’ve got a sexy pair of earrings that help justify your bright lipstick to go with it, or maybe I’m just talking about myself again. Enjoy ladies. 'Tis the season to be Jolly...

→ Buy the Bebe Double Snake Earrings, $24.00, at bebe.com.
→ But the Trina Turk Cleopatra Drop Earrings, $63.75 (was $85-- save 25%!), at bloomingdales.com.
→ Buy the Banana Republic Cabernet Chandelier Earrings, $45.00, at bananarepublic.com.

Splurge: Alexander McQueen 249124WAHU0 Laced Pump

Monday, October 25, 2010 • Permalink •

Alexander McQueen - 249124WAHU0 (Colophony) - Footwear
I find myself a teensy bit personally offended when shoe designers don't bother naming a shoe, settling instead on a stock number to set it apart from its same-season counterparts. But, I'm in a forgiving mood when it comes to these Alexander McQueen 249124WAHU0 pumps.

These stacked-heel, laced-vamp, beige-grey leather pumps from Alexander McQueen are just plain special. The color is fall-perfect, reminding me a lot of Chanel's sell out Particuliere nail polish. Rugged laces, of the kind that you'd normally find on hiking boots, add a little edge (but not too much) to otherwise quite proper pumps.

These Alexander McQueen pumps are definitely a little more fashion-forward than what I'd usually consider in an investment-priced shoe, but I can't see this stylized take on a classic grey pump going so far out of style as to no longer be useful or spawn buyer's remorse. It's gorgeous, and so splurge-worthy.

→ Buy the Alexander McQueen 249124WAHU0 Laced Pump, $935.00, at zappos.com; shipping is free.

Best Seller: Christian Louboutin Rolando Point-Toe Pumps

Thursday, October 21, 2010 • Permalink •

Christian Louboutin Rolando Point-Toe Pumps
It doesn't really shock me that a Christian Louboutin pump is at the top of the best sellers list at the Saks Fifth Avenue online store. But, I am shocked about how much I really love this Rolando Point-Toe Pump. Typically, it's the super conservative Loubies that are on the best seller list, but this new-ish style has a little something extra.

The Christian Louboutin Rolando Point-Toe Pump features a 4.5" heel with a 3/4" platform -- high enough to be hot, but low enough to actually walk (or go to work, if you must). The seamed, slightly rounded-off point-toe is classic and stylish, but a little more funky than the Simple's rounded toe. And it's available in this rich, gorgeous deep purple. Loves it. But, if you prefer your investment shoes in neutrals, this exact shoe is also available for pre-order in basic Black and Beige. And, as far as Loubies are concerned, this pump is definitely on the affordable end of the price spectrum.

→ Buy the bestselling Christian Louboutin Rolando Point-Toe Pump, $695.00, at saks.com; this item ships free through 10/26 with code SFASHIP.

New & Hot: Myne Zac Faux Fur Sweatshirt

Thursday, October 21, 2010 • Permalink •

Myne Zac Faux Fur Sweatshirt

Faux fur is definitely one of the hot fabrics for Fall. Of course, there are a ton of faux fur jackets and vests to be found in a range of prices. There are also faux fur trimmed accessories, from boots and pumps to chic handbags -- Chanel even has a completely faux fur covered baguette. But, this new faux fur find takes the prize as the most unexpected version of the trend.

The Zac Faux Fur Sweatshirt from Myne makes the faux fur trend accessible and fun, and perhaps a bit more casual than the other items we're seeing. This boatneck, boxy sweatshirt reminds me of the fit of Vince's amazing cashmere sweaters -- slouchy and relaxed, but not sloppy.

It's crafted from a poly faux fur with ribbed cotton trim at the hem and cuffs. As far as care goes, it's dry clean only, which I personally find preferable to cumbersome hand washing. The Myne Zac Faux Fur Sweatshirt is a brand new arrival and quickly popping up in several hot online shopping destinations. I predict a sell-out.

→ Buy the Myne Zac Faux Fur Sweatshirt, $188.00, at nordstrom.com.
→ Buy the Myne Zac Faux Fur Sweatshirt, $172.00, at singer22.com.

Get Paid $100k to Blog for Sunglass Hut

Thursday, October 14, 2010 • Permalink •

When I mention that I was a full-time fashion blogger for almost a year the usual reaction is something along the lines of "oh, you're so lucky." Um, yeah, it was fun and I survived and all, but it was quite a lifestyle change from my attorney's salary. For most of us, blogging is hardly the glamorous lifestyle that people imagine. And, like like acting or playing basketball for a living, it only pays well for an elite few. But, I just heard about a fashion blogging gig that really is kind of spectacular.

Sunglass Hut is looking for a "Full Time Fabulous" writer to head up a jet-setting style blog on SunglassHut.com for one year under the tutelage of Rachel Bilson, Sunglass Hut Style Director. If you are chosen, your compensation package will include:
  • A salary of $100,000;

  • A fully-furnished loft apartment in Manhattan;

  • An incredibly generous clothing allowance;

  • An expense account to cover all travel and incidentals;

  • And access to high-profile fashion events across the globe where you will socialize with designers, models, and celebrities.
Check out this video of Rachel Bilson describing the job opportunity:

Looks amazing, right? So how do you apply for this fabulous opportunity?
  1. Upload a 60-second video to SunglassHut.com/Fabulous detailing why this job is perfect for you.

  2. Promote the video and opportunity on your blog. You can include your video audition, or most importantly get your readers to go to the Sunglass Hut to vote for you.
Ten finalists will be chosen by a panel of celebrity and editors and asked to blog regularly between December 1, 2010 and December 31, 2010. The finalist is hired based on a combination of popular vote by readers (30% weighting) and panel judging.

Bilson herself will reveal a winner on January 10, 2011. Starting on October 1, 2010, submissions will be accepted until October 27, 2010. For more details and Official Rules, visit FullTimeFabulous.com.

Good luck!

Club Monaco Now Available Online at ShopBop

Club Monaco Hannah Plaid Coat

Club Monaco is a mall staple in major metropolitan areas, but once you venture outside of the biggest of big cities, it's impossible to find. And, unlike most mall stores, this trendy, fashion-forward brand has yet to open an online store. But, thanks to a partnership with online super boutique ShopBop, the best of Club Monaco is now available for purchase online, from the comfort of your office swivel chair.

For this special Club Monaco / ShopBop partnership, ShopBop Fashion Director Kate Ciepluch curated a capsule collection of some of her favorite pieces for fall / holiday 2010, including must-have camel, faux fur, and menswear influences. One of my favorite pieces is pictured here.

The Club Monaco Hannah Plaid Coat has an easy look that could work as well on the weekend as on the way to work, but when buttoned up it takes on a very fashion-forward look thanks to a fold-over funnel neck and a shirt tail hem. Other stand out pieces include ladylike blouses, fabulous scarves and gloves, and some funky chain jewelry that is super affordable.

But, the Club Monaco / ShopBop fun doesn't stop with the shopping alone. To celebrate the partnership, ShopBop and Club Monaco are hosting a Shop with the Pros Sweepstakes. The grand prize includes a trip to New York for two, a one-on-one styling session with Kate Ciepluch and Club Monaco Vice President of Women's Design Caroline Belhumeur, and two $1,000 gift cards -- to Club Monaco and ShopBop.

→ Buy the Club Monaco Hannah Plaid Coat, $295.00, at shopbop.com; shipping is free.

Fashion Cents: Open Toe Shoes in the Winter, Really?

Wednesday, October 13, 2010 • Permalink •

--By Kimberly Turner

Okay, I would be remised if I didn't cover this last trend of open toe shoes. Yes, some retailers and brands still call it a peep toe, but there is really more than just one toe showing. So while you Stiletto Jungle fashionistas may have this trend covered, you have some friends who need a little friendly advice so either give them these three tips or pass on the link to the page so they can watch the video themselves:

  1. No pedicure! No open toe! -- really, who wants to look a raggedy toe nails all winter long. Plus, my nail technician tells me that pedicures are even more important in the winter time because the air tends to be so dry.

  2. Bare legs aren't necessary -- just because you wear open toes doesn't mean you can wear hosiery. Who wants bare legs all winter long? Try textured tights so your toes still shoe but your legs get covered.

  3. Choose your height -- this trend comes in every heel height so choose a shoe or boot that works with your style and that you can walk in.
Now that you've got the tips to pass on to your "friends", watch the video to reinforce your knowledge plus don't miss the tip on the reinforced toe.

Make sense?

BCBGeneration - Parade (Steel Grey) - Footwear
Looking for a fabulous shoe quick fix for under $100? Check out this super cute new find...

Distressed pumps are a new fixation for me. Take any simple, straight-forward pump silhouette and recreate it in some sort of distressed fabric or leather. It's instant chic update. This BCBGeneration Parade Pump comes in three shades of distressed faux leather-- Steel Grey (shown here), Pewter, and Castagno (dark brown). All three shades sit on a 4" heel with a substantial 1" platform, so the overall feel is roughly that of a mere 3" heel. The overall look is a little funky, but still refined enough to take you to a less formal workplace.

Nordstrom Rack and Off Fifth Saks Fifth Avenue are nice and all, but Last Call by Neiman Marcus is just special. I'm lucky enough to live close to a Last Call, and every time I drop by I find an amazing deal. Past finds have included Tibi blouses, Milly dresses, jeans from Twenty8Twelve and Stella McCartney, Vince sweaters and L.A.M.B. shoes. The fact that this kind of sale shopping euphoria is now available in a convenient, open-24-hours format makes me want to throw a party.

The new Last Call by Neiman Marcus online site is still in launch mode, but already it has many great features. You can sort finds by multiple sizes, label, color or price; and the basic categories are super intuitive. The initial selection feels a bit picked-over, but each piece is such a strong representation of what we've come to expect from Neiman Marcus that even the "leftovers" are exceptional. Just check out this super on-trend Tart General Jacket in Army green on sale for just $99.00, marked down from $298.00 retail:

FOUND: Rachel Bilson's Inside Out Sweatshirt

Bread and Butter Inside Out Sweatshirt-PREORDER

Rachel Bilson is so adorable, and so fashionable, it's almost sickening. If not for the fact that she seems completely down to earth and personable, she'd be easy to hate. Seriously, she even looks great when going super casual.

Rachel Bilson was recently snapped in casual mode wearing a perfectly slouchy two-tone sweatshirt. I love that so many companies are making stylish sweatshirts these days -- finally casual and comfy can also be fashionable and interesting. In this pic, Rachel is wearing the Bread and Butter Inside Out Sweatshirt with her distressed jeans and oversized sunnies. Altogether, a great look for your Sunday morning Starbucks run.

New & Hot: Rory Beca Belili Motorcycle Jacket

Rory Beca Belili Motorcycle Jacket

It's the melding of the super feminine and the super masculine that makes this jacket so interesting. The ruffles are tempered by the simple shape, while what could be a too-basic unisex shape is made interesting with insane texture.

The Rory Beca Belili Motorcycle Jacket features allover mesh rosettes and ruffles with a button closure at collar and zip closure at front. It's detailed with jersey trim and lining. I think it would be a little too sweet paired with trousers or a skirt, but thrown on over jeans and a tee (or leather pants, as seen here) this jacket would be super interesting. The texture is so amazing that you really just want to reach out and touch it-- that's sure to start a conversation or two.

Steal: Fresh Sugar Rush Set $28

Fresh Sugar Rush Set

When it comes to lip balm, it's pretty hard to top Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment. It repairs chapped lips in a hurry and feels rich, but not sticky or thick. I have it on right now. It's addictive. It's also $22.50 a tube. Granted, a tube lasts quite a while, but still.

Now, for just $5.50 more than a tube of Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment, you can score a full size Sugar Lip Treatment PLUS a 3.4 ounce Fresh Brown Sugar Body Cream and a deluxe trial size of Fresh Brown Sugar Eau de Parfum with this Fresh Sugar Rush Set. Let me put this in perspective. A full size 6.8 ounce Brown Sugar Body Cream sells for $35, so you're getting $17.50 worth of body cream alone, not counting the Eau de Parfum. I hate to get all math nerd on you, but the Fresh Sugar Rush Set is really a huge steal.

→ Buy the Fresh Sugar Rush Set, $28.00, at sephora.com.

New & Hot: Marc by Marc Jacobs David Wedge Boot

Marc By Marc Jacobs David Wedge Boot
Just this week I was chatting with Natalie of Coquette about my love (ok, maybe obsession) with wedge boots for fall. I'm head over heels, but I have yet to commit to a pair. I keep running into different pairs that I'm loving. There are just too many choices. And, wouldn't you know it, I just ran into another option.

The Marc by Marc Jacobs David Wedge Boot definitely takes the wedge boot trend to a fashion-forward extreme. This textured black leather wedge boot features a crepe platform with a 3.75" heel. It's sherpa-lined and has a cool, utilitarian vibe thanks to the brass grommets and heavy-duty laces. I love the kind of open neck look that's created by the lacing that only goes half way up the boot. Perfect for fall weekends. Totally smitten.

Pour La Victoire Irina Suede Pumps on Hidden Platform

Fall's long, lean, ladylike looks call for an equally sleek, ladylike shoe. Sounds easier said than found. After several seasons that favored funky, embellished shoes it can be hard to make the transition. It's ok, you'll make it through. Just start small. Might I suggest these bestselling shoes from online boutique ShopBop.com as a first step?

The Pour la Victoire Irina Suede Pumps are gorgeous and lush. The rich suede is luxurious, while the shape is classically simple. The Irina suede platform pumps have delicate seam details at the toe and heel cap, and a comfort-inducing 1.25" hidden platform with a 4.75" covered heel. The greyish-beige color shown here is perfect for this fall, but if that color box is already checked in your shoe wardrobe you can also snag this pump in black and navy -- also perfect neutrals for fall. Really, the fact that they are best sellers is hardly a surprise.

FOUND: Katy Perry's Elmo Tee from SNL

Tuesday, October 05, 2010 • Permalink •

Mighty Fine Big Face Elmo Tee

It's funny the things that pique our pop culture interest. Like a little snub from the Sesame Street crew. Katy Perry gets branded too sexy for the squeakiest of squeaky clean kiddie shows and it sets the masses a flutter for days on end. And, really, these days anything that keeps our collective interest for more than 48 hours is practically a revolution.

Katy Perry poked a little fun at her Sesame Street troubles in a SNL skit. She was sporting a very snug, provocatively cut Elmo tee shirt. In fact, she was wearing the Mighty Fine Big Face Elmo Tee. And you can snag one for your very own, minus the strategic DIY slashing job (that's all up to you).

Review: Pantene Pro V Customized Hair Care

Friday, October 01, 2010 • Permalink •

Pantene Pro V Customized Solutions - Medium-Thick Hair
Pantene Medium-Thick Solutions

$4.99 - $5.24
Available at: drugstore.com

Pantene Pro V hair care, that drugstore staple that we all know so well, recently revamped and reformulated their line into Pantene Pro V Customized Solutions. The new Pantene is designed to "transform the hair you have into the hair you want."

As part of the metamorphosis, Pantene ditched a few old formulas, revamped and renamed a few more, and completely re-categorized their offerings into four full systems of hair care: Color, Fine Hair, Medium-Thick Hair and Curly Hair. But, they didn't stop there. To ensure that each person finds her ideal hair care solution, Pantene also created a new online Product Finder Tool that selects the ideal Customized Solutions set based on questions about how your hair behaves in its natural state and what you'd like your hair to do. I recently had the opportunity to try out the new Pantene Pro V Customized Solutions, from using the Product Finder Tool to actually using the entire Customized Solution selected for my hair, for a full month.

First, I was asked to use the Product Finder Tool to find the appropriate Pantene Pro V Customized Solution for my hair type. I was skeptical about letting a computer pick my hair care, but I gave in wholly in the name of shopping journalism. The Product Finder Tool chose Medium-Thick Hair Solutions for my hair type. Not what I would have picked for my long, curly (but regularly straightened) and highlighted hair. But, I took the computer's advice and used the entire Medium-Thick Solutions set -- Frizzy to Smooth Shampoo, Frizzy to Smooth Conditioner, Straighten & Smooth Creme and Anti-Humidity Hair Spray -- for a full month. This is my review.

Packaging and Instructions

The packaging for Pantene Pro V products is divine in its simplicity. The shampoo and conditioner come in large, easy-to-squeeze bottles that can be stood on their flat heads for getting the last drops out. The Straighten & Smooth Creme comes in a pump bottle that is easy to control and mess-free. The instructions are pretty standard. But, I would add that both the shampoo and conditioner require much less product than you would expect. The first time I used the shampoo and conditioner I used way too much product and ended up with a greasy mess that I could not get rinsed out. I quickly learned that a quarter-sized dollop of shampoo and a half-dollar-sized dollop of conditioner is all it takes for my mid-back length hair. You've been warned.

Texture and Feel

The shampoo lathers very well and rinses clean, assuming you don't use too much. The conditioner made the tangles fall right out of my hair. Both smelled amazing-- as we've all come to expect from Pantene. The Straighten & Smooth Creme wasn't at all tacky and was easy to distribute throughout my hair. Once I figured out the right amounts to use, which did take some trial and error, I found that the Pantene Pro V products were pleasant to use and had a great overall texture and feel.

Results

Over the course of the month I used the Medium-Thick Solutions products in a variety of situations. I diffused my curly hair. I straightened. I let it air dry. Overall, I got the best results from straightening, which is to be expected as that is what these products were designed to facilitate. My hair dryer-straightened easily and quite quickly. Diffusing left my hair a little limp and slightly greasy looking -- clearly not the optimum use of these products. Air drying produced loose, frizz-free ringlets.

My Pantene Pro V blowout lasted a full three days and remained frizz-free throughout. The frizz-prevention abilities of this solution set was way beyond my expectations and was significantly better than the results from my normal blowout products. Bottom line: the new Pantene Pro V Customized Solutions delivers on its promises, so long as you use the products sparingly and stick to their designed usage. This new line offers an affordable, easy-to-understand and easy to pick hair care solution and is worth trying out, particularly if you are not sure about which products will make your hair do what you want it to do.
