Steal: Apart Mink Faux Fur Vest $148
The Apart Mink Faux Fur Vest has a sleek, frill-free silhouette and a quality faux fur construction. This faux fur vest would look perfect with skinny jeans, a simple cashmere long sleeve tee and wedge boots. The overall look: luxe, but not showy.
At $148, this outfit-making fur vest is priced significantly below less similar quality faux fur vests. And, truthfully, I haven't seen many affordable vests that are this simple -- yet another reason to snap it up.

Under $100: BCBGeneration Tinas Gloss Pump
These BCBGeneration Tinas Pumps caught my eye because of the totally unique color and texture combination. The super affordable price is a great motivator for trying out this creative shoe.
The cream color and finish are described by BCBGeneration as "Dark Cream Gloss Cut Snake". From what I can tell, that means a semi-gloss patent leather, with a snake pattern that is cut into (rather than merely embossed into) the leather. The result is a ton of texture and a finish that is shinier than plain leather, but less glossy than patent leather. Actually, the cut leather reminds me a lot of my favorite pair of Calvin Klein Collection textured leather pumps, which cost about 7 times as much as these BCBGeneration pumps. Hmph.
→ Buy the BCBGeneration Tinas Pump, $89.95, at zappos.com; shipping and returns are free.
New & Hot: A.L.C. Trouser Sweatpants
This new A.L.C. Trouser Sweatpant lives at the upper end of the slouchy, cropped sweatpants trend. The trouser styling makes it unquestionable that this pant was meant for fashion-forward women to wear out in the open, not just to the gym.
This A.L.C. sweatpant looks great in this picture, styled with sporty high-heeled sandals. It would also look good with refined flats. Just steer clear of flip-flops, which would totally defeat the purpose of choosing a more structured sweatpant.
→ Buy the A.L.C. Trouser Sweatpant, $295.00, at shopbop.com; shipping is free.

Absolutely perfect for work -- even a super conservative workplace -- but with a touch of luxe, these Stuart Weitzman Court Pumps are just too good of a deal to pass up.

This low-heeled, llama leather pump from Stuart Weitzman is marked 70% off... that's a happy Monday discovery.
The Stuart Weitzman Court Pump is available in three colors: Black and Camel are both priced at $82.50; Cream is $96.25. Original price was $275. I'm not even going to try to figure out why the least versatile color is priced highest, I'm just going to go with it.

Gift This: Kiehl's Ultimate Man Collection
What: Kiehl's Ultimate Man Collection
Why: Unlike many skincare kits made for men, the Kiehl's Ultimate Man Collection actually looks and feels quite manly. Bonus points to Kiehl's. That makes this skincare kit perfect for the guy who likes to look and feel his best, and get a little sink-side pampering, but doesn't buy into that oh-so-10-years-ago "metrosexual" thing.
The Kiehl's Ultimate Man Collection features a sampler of Kiehl's best man-approved skincare items: Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash, Ultimate Brushless Shave Cream White Eagle, Facial Fuel, Lip Balm #1, Ultimate Man Scrub Soap deluxe, and Ultimate Strength Hand Salve deluxe. Gift This: Jo Malone Candle Collection
Who: The business traveler
What: Jo Malone Candle Collection
Why: There are few things as unglamorous as a businessperson's hotel. If you often travel for work, you know what I mean. Almost invariably these hotels have the word "suites" in their name, which generally just means there's a kitchenette so that you can pretend that you are not living out of a suitcase. It never works. These dark, stale hotel rooms are enough to make you reconsider your profession. But, oddly, the who experience is made dramatically better with the addition of a travel candle.
I'm sure you've heard or read about starlets traveling with their favorite overpriced candle. There is a reason: it helps. And this 6-piece Jo Malone Candle Collection can serve the same purpose for the business traveller on your gift list. Featuring travel-perfect 1.05 oz. versions of Jo Malone's best-loved candle scents -- Lime Basil and Mandarin, Grapefruit, Pomegranate Noir, Nectarine Blossom and Honey, Orange Blossom Cologne, and Wild Fig and Cassis -- this set is all that is needed for a dramatically better business travel experience.
→ Buy the Jo Malone Candle Collection, $85.00, at nordstrom.com; use code HOLIDAY10 for free shipping on orders of $100+.
Naughty or Nice? A New Holiday Tradition
It's that time of the year again. Time to gather with friends and colleagues to celebrate the season. But, is it me, or is every holiday party lately a bore? You show up at someone’s house in an ugly sweater with a bottle of wine and begin the act of holiday cheer while staring at the clock and trying to decide when is a good time to make your escape.
Well not this year...
This year while Santa is busy making his list and checking it twice, of all the Naughty and Nice girls and boys, we will be helping him out. This year, our annual holiday party puts a new twist on holiday tradition. It is designed for the fun and fashionable who believe the holiday season is both for having fun and for giving to others. Here's how you can throw your own Naughty or Nice party:
1. Guests are sent an invitation to the Naughty and Nice Party that asks them to come dressed in either Naughty or Nice cocktail attire, and to bring a toy to donate to a local children’s hospital.
2. When guests arrive at the party, they are greeted at the door with a choice -- Naughty or Nice? -- and asked to sign their names to either the Naughty list or the Nice list. Guests then enter the party area, where the room is divided in half – you guessed it, half Naughty and half Nice.
3. On the Naughty side, guests find a buffet table labeled "Naughty" that is filled with decadent desserts and candies of all types, and of course, an array of holiday cocktails to choose from, including Jack & Ginger Ale, Cranberry Jack, and peppermint martinis. This side of the room is decorated with lots of mistletoe, martini glasses filled with sparkly ball ornaments, a retro Christmas tree, and a photo opportunity with Santa that requires you to sit on his lap.
4. On the Nice side of the room, good boys and girls find a buffet table labeled "Nice" that offers hors d'oeuvres and plenty of non-alcoholic beverage options, including cider served in martini glasses with a cinnamon stick. Guests can rock around a traditional Christmas tree where they deliver the gifts they brought to donate. A stocking with each guest’s name is hanging on the wall, and before the party is over, a favor box is placed in each guest’s stocking that contains either a "Naughty" or "Nice" gift based upon which list the guest wrote his or her name on.
By the end of the night, stylishly dressed guests have indulged in "Naughty" holiday cheer while doing a "Nice" deed by giving back to their community. That's a holiday tradition sure to get you on Santa’s Nice list this year!
Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey is charcoal-mellowed for a smooth, yet distinctive flavor that mixes well with ginger ale for an unexpected taste during the holidays. Learn how to spice up your holiday season with family and friends by visiting spikethecookies.com.

Winter Fashion: Vince Loop Scarf
On my recent trip to NYC, I stopped in the Prince Street Vince store for some casual browsing (and thawing). I wasn't really planning on making a purchase -- I already have a closet full of Vince cashmere and shopping for LA style in NYC feels more than a little ridiculous. But, I spotted this super long Vince Loop Scarf and couldn't resist.
This cozy, lofty wool / silk / alpaca scarf is long enough to loop around three times with room to spare and adds a nice finishing touch to any winter ensemble. Like most Vince items, this scarf feels like a big hug, and looks both luxe and stylish. I consider that money well spent.
→ But the Vince Loop Scarf, $135.00, at vince.com; shipping and returns are free.
Gift This: Tory Burch Reva Flats
What: Tory Burch "Reva" Ballet Flats
Why: There are at least a half a dozen reasons why these cute flats make for a perfect gift. Not only are they super chic (despite their heel-less silhouette), they are a huge best seller, an Oprah Favorite, and they're from the popular Tory Burch label. But, beyond all of this, these flats have the one claim to fame that really sets them apart -- they're damn comfortable. And, at the end of the day, isn't that the best selling point of all?
The Tory Burch Reva Flat comes in a ton of colors, including metallics and both fabric and leather versions. But, if you are gifting a first-time Reva owner, you can't miss with a pair of basic black with gold accent.
→ Buy the Tory Burch Reva Flat, $195.00, at nordstrom.com; use code HOLIDAY10 to get free shipping on orders of $100+.

The Single Greatest Truth in Fashion
One need only to enter the elevator, assuming one makes it past the three-deep security guards and magnetic entry gates, to grasp the sartorial gravity of the building. Fashion is made between those four walls. Floors are not identified merely by their number, but by the name of the venerable magazine that occupies that level. Like beacons of style, they slowly illuminate as one ascends: Lucky… Glamour… Vogue.
Once one alights on a floor – I only made it as far as 4, the cafeteria – one begins to encounter Conde Nast girls. Immaculately dressed, perfectly made up, with luscious blown-out hair that seems to defy the elements (and not a single pony tail in sight); Conde Nast girls are a sight to behold. They are a walking lesson in artful dressing. I could spend hours just watching them walk by. Even in the frigid cold of a chillier-than-normal NYC December, they each appeared to have stepped right out of the pages of the glossies that employ them. In the three hours I spent at Conde Nast I learned at least a dozen little fashion lessons from watching the stunning women walking through cafeteria hall.
And then there’s Anna. If the Conde Nast building is our holy land, Anna Wintour is the fashion Dali Lama. I can attest to the fact that you need only to inhale the rarefied air that surrounds Anna Wintour and you will achieve fashion enlightenment. It is a divine experience. I ran into Anna Wintour in the near-empty lobby of the Conde Nast building this week. She appeared like a mirage at the elevator bank and walked right past me, out the door and into a waiting car. The 15 seconds I spent in her midst were magical. She is just as glamorous, iconic, powerful and self-possessed as you’d imagine. For a brief sliver of time, I understood all that is fashion. Like all instances of great enlightenment, the moment passed. Sigh.
I have much more to share from my time at Conde Nast, including tidbits from the event that provided my entry into the temple of fashion: the Lucky Magazine / Dior.com launch event. So, stay tuned. And, if you ever get the chance to make the great pilgrimage to the Conde Nast building, don’t pass it up. It is an impressive experience.

Gift This: Nordstrom Solid Cashmere Muffler
What: Nordstrom Solid Cashmere Muffler
Why: Four days in NYC during a colder-than-normal December has clued me in to the value of a really good scarf. Strangely, a scarf does add a significant amount of warmth, by simply bridging the gap between the coat and the chin. It sounds odd to those of us from more temperate climates, but I’ve learned that covering as much skin as humanly possible is a key to surviving on-foot transportation in below freezing temperatures. And, if you are going to surround your neck in fabric every time you step out the door, it helps if that fabric is warm, soft and fashionable.
This Nordstrom Solid Cashmere Muffler is ideal for gifting. It is crafted from 100% cashmere, comes in 13 colors and is reasonably priced for the quality. Although it is pictured in the women's section, I see no reason why this couldn't be a unisex gift. I suggest Grey Flannel or Natural for ladies, as those colors are versatile and tend not to show accidental makeup transfer. For the men, a basic Black, Grey Flannel or Winter White are simple options that are most likely to get actual wear.
If you are feeling generous, coordinating gloves and/or a hat are nice additions. Remember, in the wise words of Clinton and Stacy, it doesn’t need to match, it just needs to go.
→ Buy the Nordstrom Solid Cashmere Muffler, $59.90 (was $78-- save 20%), at nordstrom.com.
Fashion Cents: 3 Tips for What to Wear to a Winter Wedding
If you think the cold and snow give you any excuse to not dress appropriate for a wedding then you need to think again:
- No Wearing Uggs -- Strolling into a church looking like an Eskimo for a couple's nuptials even if it is only 20 degrees outside is not acceptable. Wear dressier boots to compliment your outfit and a little heel doesn't hurt.
- No Wearing a Long Dress (if you are not in the bridal party) -- I don't care if it keeps you warmer by covering up your legs. Not appropriate and it is likely to get wet from dragging in the snow. Choose a dress length more appropriate for your body type and pair it with the boots in number 1.
- No Wearing White -- Who cares if you blend in with the snow?!?!? It's the Bride's color. Don't wear it! Choose a jewel tone that works well with your skin tone and will be festive for the season.

Kate Spade Halle Wedge: Back in Stock!
Part chic designer wedge, part practical walkable shoe, the Kate Spade Halle Wedge became a favorite of the political set because you can walk in it all day without killing your feet. Plus, as is desirable for political types, this shoe is stylish without being in-your-face fashion.
What does this mean for you? This shoe has been road tested for comfort by some of the most demanding customers in the power-woman set, and passed with flying colors. That makes it practically perfect for all of your work needs, even if your urban dwelling means you commute on foot.

Gift This: Sofia Cashmere Travel Set
What: Sofia Cashmere Travel Set
Why: Traveling, particularly in coach, is hardly a super fun experience. Seats are cramped, hard and smelly. Airlines upcharge for everything from checking luggage to purchasing snacks. Flight attendants are quickly joining the ranks of official disgruntled workers. Ugh. If only we could sprout wings and take care of the flying ourselves.
The wing sprouting isn't going to happen anytime soon, and flying anything short of first class isn't going to get more enjoyable anytime soon. But, this super luxe Cashmere Travel Set from Sofia Cashmere will help. A lot.
This cozy set features a 36" x 60" cashmere blanket and a matching cashmere eye mask, all tucked into a convenient cashmere carrying case. It's available in 3 colors, all of which are quite unisex. Mmm, cozy.
→ Buy the Sofia Cashmere Travel Set, $300, at saks.com; get free shipping with code HOLIDAYS through 12/6.
