--By Kim Moshtaghi Being in scrubs everyday has definitely kept me out of the fashion loop. But, after a trip to Vegas, my passion for fashion came alive again. Vegas in winter may mean an extra layer to the eye, but the jackets that I saw made me swoon. From cropped numbers to sequined delights, winter never looked and felt so alive.
After I returned from my trip I rummaged through my closet to find some sexy outerwear. Even in sunny San Diego the weather is colder in winter, requiring a thicker jacket than usual. But, thicker jacket doesn’t have to equal looking frumpy and unfashionable. I think it's best to take advantage of every situation and, instead of losing hope in the fashion department, layer you with fun pieces and top them off with a cool winter jacket. The following showcased jackets are short and fun-loving and will motivate you to get out of the house, and show off your wild side.
A jacket that I found hip, yet not enough to cover you up when it’s snowing or pouring rain, is
Bebe’s Draped Suede Jacket (left). It’s definitely a jacket that you wear underneath a raincoat, but with the intention of showing off at some point. I love the wow factor on this jacket, the way the texture and style are in harmony. The oversized lapel gives the jacket an edgy, old school style without looking like you tried too hard. Kim Kardashian would be all over this piece. Although she can be annoying, her fashion sense is stellar.
Going from an '80s style to a complete classic, Banana Republic puts the fun in searching for warmer clothes. I adore this elegant
Double Faced Wool Coat (right) for three reasons: 1) it’s short and warm at the same time; 2) the way it molds and wraps around the body is flattering without looking bulky; and 3) the tie closure makes it more adjustable and easier to throw over stuff.
Lastly, how can I not showcase a leather jacket? My next fab jacket is wonderful in every fashion sense. The
BCBG Pleated Hem Leather Jacket is a hip, seductive leather jacket that is pleated and is so mysterious it’s even got a hidden zipper. No pockets for fun stuff, but more attitude than Kyle from
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. You can’t go wrong with a jacket that’s black leather and has no shame when it comes out of the closet.
