Once upon a time I was a 20-someting practicing attorney, specializing in political law and representing elected officials, wearing conservative suits and sensible heels. Really, it was a lot more fun than it sounds. Between jobs I landed in Silicon Valley, the heart of the online scene and home to tech powerhouses like Facebook, Twitter, Apple and Google. At that time, everyone was talking about blogs -- evidently they were going to be the "next big thing". I was instantly intrigued.

People were using blogs to reach an audience directly, bypassing editors and fancy journalism school educations to self-publish on every topic under the sun. I knew I had to try it. I felt I had a unique perspective as a professional woman who knew what it was like to work 12 hours a day, but still want to keep up with fashion and shopping. So, I set out to create a site for women like me: overworked, decently paid, and decidedly low on free time, but still interested in fashion and shopping. Adventures in the Stiletto Jungle -- your daily guide to the online shopping jungle -- was born.

I never went back to practicing law. Not that I don't miss it sometimes, but spending my days talking fashion and "playing" online is hard to beat. Stiletto Jungle has grown like I would have never believed and I still feel deeply respectful of the fact that all of you invite me -- and the 10 other women who now contribute to this blog -- into your lives every work day. It's that connection, that invitation to be a part of your online life, that keeps me turning out the best, most useful shopping news and information each day.

Review: Unii Cosmetics Makeup Palette

Hi SJ readers! Have you ever brought your makeup on a trip only to open your bag and see your beloved eye shadows in crumbles? It’s the worst feeling ever when you know you’ve invested a ton of money in colors that you love and it all ends up at the mercy of the TSA and baggage handlers.

I have tried a few different palettes to end the shadow carnage, and I’ve discovered THE solution!! Unii Cosmetics makes a beautiful set of sturdy makeup palettes to house your shadows, blush, etc. They seem to be made of a tough plastic with a tight rubberized lid that snaps shut and a nice sized mirror for application. You can also fit some travel sized brushes in the palette for touch ups.

The palette is magnetized to keep your shadows in place and it comes with a sheet of magnets that you can cut to fit the bottom of your shadow and write on the back to ID the color. Refills are great to use with this palette and Unii has a list of brands that work well. They also show you how to "de-pot" your favorite shadows out of their casings and add them to your collection. I spent a rainy NYC night de-potting and it is so convenient to have all my favorite colors at my fingertips without the bulk of the individual cases!

The best part is that you can take everything apart and thoroughly clean if any of your shadows happen to flake into the palette. Most palettes are made of tough cardboard- not so great for cleaning! They come in a range of shades from eggplant to twilight, but I am loving the snow white color and the new super sleek coal color. If you buy a few of them, you can color code your shadows to the color of the palette. Super organization!

Here’s my palette in the Snow color, there’s some MAC refill colors, Make Up For Ever refills, a Lorac color, NARS duo shadow in Paris (top right, I freaking love those colors), a couple Cover Girl shadows, and that random rectangle one that I dig but no idea what it is.

There are so many clever ways to use these palettes and they have a ton of pics on their site from users who have come up with creative ways to organize their makeup.

My only gripe about this super handy product is that the palettes are a bit small if you are a makeup hoarder like myself. I have heard that they’re working on a bigger palette so keep an eye out for the bigger size.

Despite being just as Royal Wedding-interested as the average American girl, I haven't found much Stiletto Jungle-worthy news about the upcoming Kate Middleton - Prince William nuptials. Until today. When a princess-to-be hits up a super affordable store for what appears to be honeymoon fashion essentials, that's kind of fun.

So, do you want to snap up some of the same dresses that will grace Miss Middleton? What: Reiss Connelly Belted Wrap Collar Jacket

Why it's hot: I ran into this chic jacket while perusing the Reiss SoHo store this past week. It definitely stood out the minute I saw it, and the saleswoman who caught me ogling it confirmed my fashion intuition -- it had already sold out twice this season! It's one of the best selling items in the SoHo store.

This jacket stands out for a number of reasons. First, the funnel neck, which forms an oversized collar when open, is instant fashion drama. The quilted piping detail on the sleeves is noticeable when up close and creates some visual interest in the monochromatic jacket, as does the chevron seams on the collar. Finally, the cotton canvas construction looks dressy because of the dark color, but could easily be dressed down. Plus, the length is very versatile -- it's hard to tell from this picture, but it falls just below the waist: not too long, not too cropped.

What to wear it with: As mentioned above, this jacket can vibe both dressy (because of the dark, monochromatic color) and casual (because of the cotton canvas construction). Pair it with a skirt for a super chic look that will give off an almost suit-like appearance. With jeans it will add a little polish, but not contrast too much with casual denim.
