Nike Training Club Week 5: It's Getting Easier

Wednesday, August 31, 2011 • Permalink •

Nike Training Club - Make Yourself

Well friends, it's week 5 of my 6-week Nike Training Club Challenge. For those of you who may be new to the series, I was challenged to download the free Nike Training Club App -- available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch -- and give it a try, chronicling my experience right here for all of you to read. I've had my ups and downs over the past month or so, but it has gone quickly and I can't believe we're already on week 5!

Truthfully, it took me a while to decide what I wanted to write about this week. We've covered my slow start and a couple little revelations about my initial lack of shape and strange bouts of mid-day motivation. And I really wanted to save my big wrap up for next week. All I really have left is my routine. Wait... did I really say that? I have a routine? Score one for the Nike Training Club App.

Yes, after some serious struggles trying to find an "angle" for this week's post, I discovered that my story was sitting right under my nose. Thanks to 5 weeks with the Nike Training Club, I now have a routine. Is it a rock star style hardcore fitness routine? No. But it is a routine that works for me -- fits with my schedule and life, and makes me feel like I'm getting stronger.

Woman doing yoga by the ocean

Each night, sometime between starting work on job #2 and starting my slow-down-for-bed routine, I bust out my NTC App and fit in a couple exercises from my chosen plan: Get Toned. I don't need to pull out a DVD or any crazy equipment, and I don't need to set aside a full hour to get in some exercise. The encapsulated exercise routines are the perfect length to slip in to my already hectic day. And they work. No, I don't suddenly have a rock hard body. But, lunges that once made my legs feel like Jell-O, now merely make my legs feel a bit more tired that when they started. Hey, in my anti-exercise world, that's a victory.

So, have any of you had the chance to try out the NTC App yet? Let us know how it's working for you. Also, don't forget to enter the Nike Training Club Make Yourself Sweepstakes. You can win great prizes like an iPad2 complete with Nike Training Club App, and Nike gear like the Legend Pant, Victory Bra, and Free XT Motion Fit+!

The Nike Training Club App is a full-body functional training app designed for you to make yourself whatever you want to be. Whether you’re looking to get lean, toned, or strong, NTC takes every workout to the next level. Download it here.

4 Essentials for an Elegant, Simple Look

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 • Permalink •

--By Kim Moshtaghi

This past Sunday was a big day at the racetrack in Del Mar, California. It was a wonderful place to observe different fashion trends in an upscale area of San Diego. But, this year I was disappointed. The biggest mistake I saw was people’s tendency to go overboard. There was so much going on in most of the ladies outfits that it looked tacky.

This brings me to emphasize the importance of simplicity. Simplicity equals elegance in my opinion. I think there are essential pieces that every gal definitely needs to have in order to gear away from the cluttered, sloppy look. So, when in doubt go simple instead of wearing all your funky pieces at one time.

I'm a big believer in a solid, crisp white collared shirt as a staple piece in both men's and women's closets. The collared shirt always looks classy and clean. White House Black Market has a great white button-up. The v-neck collared shirt and chest pockets give this simple shirt the ultimate clean-cut look. This one is a little different because it doesn't button all the way up to the neck, giving it a little modern twist.

Giveaway: Win an Affinitas Lingerie 3-Pack

Affinitas
It’s that time of year again...football season is just around the corner, and like every year, our guys spend their Sundays watching the game instead of noticing us. So why not wear lingerie or racy, lacy panties and spice up those Sundays?

Affinitas intimates derives its name from the Latin word "affinity," which means a natural attraction to a person, place, idea, or thing. Now, this is the type of company I’d like my body to represent! The company offers a broad spectrum of lingerie that includes baby dolls, bras, panties, camisoles, chemises, and bustiers. Showing off your assets in vixen style stimulates him and empowers you, so whether you are single or in a relationship, it is always a good idea to wear feminine, sexy lingerie.

I love this brand because they have pre-packaged panties in sets of three that will last you through a weekend in Vegas or a business trip. However you spend your time, you will need panties. The color selections are great, and with several different styles, you’ll feel comfortable and hot no matter your mood. It’s quick, easy and convenient to throw one of these pre-packaged panty sets in a gift to add some spice or even your gym bag to ensure a clean start to the getting dressed process.

Affinitas Panty 3-Pack

My ultimate simple pick is the ivory, black and white trio pack for my daily wear. These panties have a comfy, stretchy feel and that they are one size fits all. The Affinitas brand also has Parfait, which is perfect for the full busted gals that have a hard time shopping with the smaller breasted crowd. Whatever route you take you will definitely be looking sultry in this lacy brand. Affinitas is available online at stores like Lingerie.com and HerRoom.com.

Want to try out Affinitas' gorgeous lingerie for yourself? Our friends at Affinitas are offering 3 lucky readers the change to each win an Affinitas 3-pack in the brand new Fall colors -- Lilac, Denim Blue and Deep Purple. Winners will have their choice of the Thong Pack or Hipster Pack.

This contest starts at 9:30 a.m. PT on Tuesday, August 30, and ends at 11:55 p.m. PT on Tuesday, September 6. To enter, simply fill out the entry form below. Three winners will be chosen at random. See the entry form for full details, rules and restrictions. And, while you are at it, follow Affinitas on Twitter and fan Affinitas on Facebook. Good luck!

Splurge: Prabal Gurung Lace Print Wool Dress

Monday, August 29, 2011 • Permalink •

Prabal Gurung Lace-print wool-blend twill dress
You know how sometimes you see a big trend and you think, "that's a great trend for other people, but it would look ridiculous on me"? Yeah, that's how I feel about this whole black lace thing that Lanvin started for Fall 2011. It looked amazing on the Lanvin runway, and I can totally see it rocking on other people, but traditional lace is just not for me.

Fast forward to this amazing splurge find. With this edgy lace-print wool twill dress, designer Prabal Gurung has made lace less, um, lacy. By taking the lace motif and turning it into a dramatic print, this dress is more wearable than the straight up black lace seen on the runway and less precious than the interpretations that are popping up in department stores.

While this Prabal Gurung dress is ideal for a cocktail party or night out, I think the wool construction and the fact that it's printed rather than actual lace make it eligible for daytime wear. Although it's not quite right for anything less than a creative office environment, I could see this dress at a daytime event or lunch with the girls. Either way, this dress is stunning and by far my favorite take on the Fall black lace trend.

New & Hot: Milly Zandra Bow Sweater

Monday, August 29, 2011 • Permalink •

Milly Zandra Bow Sweater
What: Milly Zandra Bow Sweater

Why it's hot: Ladylike bow blouses are one of the key trends for fall, but you can only have so many traditional bow blouses in your wardrobe. Sometimes it's good to branch out just a little. This snappy sweater is a fun new take on the classic bow blouse look -- it serves the same sartorial purpose for Fall 2011, but without repeating the button-down blouse formula. With a 100% merino wool construction, this sweater will not only keep you plenty warm, it will also hold up nicely over the coming years.

What to wear it with: Let the Milly Bow Sweater take the place of a bow blouse in your Fall ensembles. I love how it is styled here with this tomato red midi skirt (which is a nice representation of both a big Fall color trend, and a big new silhouette trend). The look is simple, but still fun and on-trend.

For a more casual look pair this sweet sweater with jeans -- wide leg to capture the '70s-inspired look, skinny for a more French-chic vibe. For the casual day version of the ladylike look captured by the tomato red skirt, try adding a pair of cropped trousers in a bright color.

→ Buy the Milly Zandra Bow Sweater, $196.00, at shopbop.com; shipping and returns are free.

Bad Girl Pearls: 5 Super Hot Options

Thursday, August 25, 2011 • Permalink •

--By Kim Moshtaghi

This month's edition of In Style magazine jewelry showcased pearls that combine chains and spikes. These pearls flirt with danger and I like it. Their feature impressed me and since pearls are always a staple, I thought it was great idea to round up some of my favorite bad girl pearl combinations. The idea of pairing pearls with edgier accent pieces makes a seductive fashion statement.

My first showcase is from Francesca’s Collections. This stacked ring is for the entry level gal who wants the feminine look without the excessive roughness. The ring has three bands: the main band has grey faux pearls with shimmering rhinestones and two surrounding shiny bands accent the main ring.

The B Brian Atwood Shoe Line Now Available Online!

Thursday, August 25, 2011 • Permalink •

Shoe maestro Brian Atwood's eagerly awaited B Brian Atwood shoe line launches today at Saks Fifth Avenue and Saks.com... and I'm insanely excited. The main Brian Atwood shoe line is full of those gorgeous shoes that just make you drool. And they're expensive. Really expensive. But, with this new affordable line we can all snag Brian Atwood style at a price point that won't totally screw up your budget.

The main B Brian Atwood line will sell for $200-$400, with seasonal items going as low as $100-$150 (for sandals, flip-flops) and as high as $500-$600 (for boots). Ok, I know the prices aren't exactly super cheap -- "affordable" is relative when you are talking about a shoe designer who creates shoes that normally go for anywhere between $600 and $2,000.

To sweeten the deal a bit more, Saks is offering a free gift with purchase through Monday, August 29. While supplies last, you can snag a B Brian Atwood leather inlay bracelet free with any B Brian Atwood purchase by using code BBRIAN2. Plus, Brian will be launching a Tweetstakes today via @Brian_Atwood, inviting followers to retweet #bobsessed for a chance to win his favorite things, including a Jo Malone Candle, Vosges chocolates, plus a handwritten note. Altogether, a fun launch plan.

Ok, now on to the shoes. Here are my picks for the 5 best of the inaugural collection:

These chic ankle boots feature dual textures: snake embossed leather at the heel and rich suede up front.

Nike Training Club Week 4: Not What I Expected

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 • Permalink •

Nike Training Club - Make Yourself

If you've been reading Stiletto Jungle regularly over the past few weeks, you know that I'm on a 6-week mission to try out the new Nike Training Club app for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. I'm recording my journey here, and taking as many readers as possible along for the ride (right down to a fabulous Nike giveaway!). We're now on week 4.

As I alluded to last week, I expected that this week's theme would be all about whether the Nike Training Club App could keep me motivated and working out over time. But, along the way I found a new theme emerging. I know this isn't how the app was intended to work (at least I don't think), but I've found that the NTC app has inspired more spontaneous, app-free workouts. Let me explain.

The Nike Training Club app does a great job of compartmentalizing and breaking down simple exercises that are easy to recreate. Or, at least that's what I've found when it comes to my training plan of choice: Get Toned. The result is new knowledge of simple, but effective exercises that I can work in throughout my day in addition to a single, longer-duration workout. For example, my new favorite mid-day exercise is the Alternating Forward Lunge with Arm Curl (as a newbie, I do it without weights). It gets my blood moving and my muscles working, without forcing me to stop, change into fitness clothes and do a full-on workout. Check it out:

Like I said, I'm sure the intent is to use the actual app each time you exercise, but I've found a lot of motivation in just learning these new exercises and how to use them to achieve my fitness goals. How about all of you out there taking the Nike Training Club challenge -- do you use the app each time you exercise, or have you been "cheating" on the app by exercising throughout the day?

While you're contemplating how the NTC app has motivated you, don't forget to enter the Nike Training Club Make Yourself Sweepstakes.

Sleek Wedges for All Fashion Personalities

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 • Permalink •

--By Kim Moshtaghi

I always have and always will love wedges. I know that’s a bold statement and, sadly enough, I can say it about shoes but no men in my life. Wedges make gals look hot and never disappoint year after year. I recently got re-inspired when I saw an article along with a picture of Angelina Jolie on an outing with her kids in the U.K wearing some sexy patent leather peep toe wedges. It was a reminder of how sexy and sleek they can make an outfit look. The best part is that they're comfortable enough to wear to work and nice enough to transition into the evening cocktail hour. If Angelina Jolie can wear them with her many children, I know most of us without a classroom of kids tugging on us can also walk in those footsteps.

I ran across these adorable black "Ines" peep-toe wedges on the Banana Republic website. I adore this black suede shoe with its simple, classic wedge style. This pair is a step away from being plain Jane, but because of the soft suede texture they have an extra spark. This is a great example of a pair that can easily transition from work to an evening out.

How to Get Flirty Eyes Part 2: Eye Shadow

Thursday, August 18, 2011 • Permalink •

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Eye shadow can make or break a look. Sometimes ladies over do it and look like complete clowns. Sometimes less is more. But mastering the bold eye shadow look of celebrities like Kim Kardashian can be very sexy and seductive. In Part 1 of this post I mentioned eyeliner and mascara options, but this time I'll be highlighting some great eye shadows that will help you bat your lashes and give off some color.

I love Lancôme color palettes that are up to par with the trendy colors. The newest all-in-one five-shadow Color Design palette will brighten your eyes in no time. This is a versatile palette that can be used for day or night time. The colors can be used together or separately for all over, lid, crease or to highlight and line around the inner eye. The pink, silver, purple, light pink and whitish color palette is a perfect, harmonious blend that can transition smoothly combined with one another. I love the combination of pink and silver/gray with a translucent white in the inner corners of the eyes. It’s a very fresh, feminine yet dramatic look.

Nike Training Club Week 3: Feeling the Burn + Giveaway!

Nike Training Club - Make Yourself

As regular readers know, I'm on a 6-week mission to try, test and report on my adventures with the new Nike Training Club App for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. I'm giving the super customizable workout and training app a spin -- the Get Toned program is my program of choice -- and chronicling my progress and experiences here.

After a slow start last week, I was able to sneak in some quality time with my new little trainer-in-an-app this week. Really, my experience this week can be summed up in one word: sore. Ok, maybe I should expand a bit. As I mentioned last week, despite the fact that I'm deceptively thin, I am actually quite out of shape. I blame it on a bad case of Silicon Valley syndrome -- I spend 14 to 18 hours a day in front of a computer. No joke. The sedentary lifestyle has left me a little soft around the edges. Needless to say, my body isn't quite used to working out. So, back to the "sore"...

Woman working out with weights

I spent the majority of the last week in varying levels of post-workout pain. As much as this sounds like an unhappy state of affairs, I think it is really a good turn of events for two reasons. First, it's proof that the Nike Training Club App workouts work. Despite the compact, efficient (i.e., often short) duration of the workouts, they are effective. The proof is in the pain. Second, the soreness is proof that my body is benefitting from said workouts. That is, the workouts in the program are targeting my personal soft spots. Sure, it's been long enough since I've worked out regularly that it wouldn't take a genius to pick some exercises that would give me a little trouble. But, it gives me extra confidence in the app that its customized workouts have really been able to target my weak areas, even without that whole flesh-and-blood personal trainer thing.

Bottom line, so far the workouts work and seem to be effective in providing an appropriate challenge for my individual needs. The big test for next week? Can the Nike Training Club App keep me motivated enough to work out two weeks in a row -- that's going to be a real challenge.

So, are any of you out there taking the Nike Training Club Challenge with me? Remember how I've been hinting about an upcoming contest? Here's your payoff for following the Challenge (and hopefully giving the free app a spin along with me)... the Nike Training Club Make Yourself Sweepstakes! Enter for a chance to win an iPad2 complete with the Nike Training Club app and COOL Nike gear including the Legend Pant, Victory Bra, and Free XT Motion Fit+!

The Nike Training Club App is a full-body functional training app designed for you to make yourself whatever you want to be. Whether you’re looking to get lean, toned, or strong, NTC takes every workout to the next level. Download it here.

How To Get Flirty Eyes Part 1: Liner and Mascara

Wednesday, August 17, 2011 • Permalink •

--By Kim Moshtaghi

I am a big believer in speaking with my eyes. It is crucial to play up eyes as if they were their own person. It’s the first thing people should look at and tells a lot about a person.

First, it is wise to remember that if you are going all-out with the eyes not to go extreme with the lip color. It's sort of like not wearing a plunge v-neck and a mini skirt to go along. Now, if you are Katy Perry it may work, but looking at her sex kitten reputation it may not be working for her either. Don’t get me wrong, I love nothing more than red luscious lips, but I usually grab the red when I don’t have time to play up my eyes and need a quick rejuvenated look.

The right products to play up the eyes make a world of a difference. I always admired one of my mother’s friend’s eyeliner growing up. She always seems so well put together and her eyes are never smeared, instead they are perfectly fresh but bold looking. She swears by Bobbi Brown's award winning Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. She’s not the only one that swears by the gel eyeliner -- it has excellent reviews and has stolen the hearts of many. It’s perfect for people who have oily skin and can’t seem to keep any liner on without it smearing on the lower lid.

Labor-Free Labor Day Celebrations for Busy Fashionistas

Wednesday, August 17, 2011 • Permalink •

--By Jen W.

Bacardi - Rediscover the Daiquiri - Logo

How great of a holiday is Labor Day??? Not only do we celebrate it by having a day off of work (cheers to that!), but it is as though it is expected of us to have a day of rest and parties. Now that’s my kind of holiday!

Planning a party, however, is not always "restful." But your Labor Day party can be fun and restful if you incorporate the theme into your party! Simply have your guests help out by sharing the labor.

Labor-free Farewell Summer Fete: Think progressive party, but you don't travel anywhere. Assign yours guests one course, i.e. an appetizer, an entrée, a side dish, etc. You just provide the location and cocktails and the food comes to you – how labor-free is that!

For a simple, labor-free cocktail for your guests to toast the end of summer (and the end of wearing white) try the Bacardi Hand-Shaken Daiquiri – serving it only requires these four easy steps:
Step 1: Moisten the rim of a tall glass then dip in sugar to rim the edges
Step 2: Pour Bacardi Hand-Shaken Daiquiri over ice
Step 3: Garnish with a lime wedge
Step 4: Cheers!

Prepping for Labor Day Party

Labor-free Beach Bash (or Park Party): Thinking of heading to the beach or to the park to celebrate with friends? You can easily incorporate this theme into your adventures. Follow the same guidelines as above, but have guests move from one blanket to another as they enjoy each course. This will lessen your post-party labor since you won’t have to clean your house, and guests can show off their celebratory style by bringing their own blankets and decorating around them.

Labor Day Shopping Party

The "Goodbye White" Girlfriend Gala: Of course, some of us would rather say goodbye to wearing white by replacing those white items in our closets with new colorful ones. Labor Day always promises great sales, both in the store and online (be sure to check back here at Stiletto Jungle for the online deals!). So grab your girlfriends and take your progressive party shopping! Each friend can pay for a snack in between stores – first stop: coffee, then a snack, followed by a light lunch, and then an afternoon treat. In between you can shop for those new shoes you have been coveting…it will be a daylong event of good friends and hopefully good sales!

Please remember to drink responsibly and always have a designated driver.

This summer, rediscover the daiquiri. Bacardi Hand Shaken Daiquiri is the perfect addition to any summer get-together — fun, delicious, and ready to pour. Bacardi Hand Shaken Daiquiri is made with Bacardi Superior Rum, tangy lime and sugar. It is a perfectly balanced cocktail that is not too sour and not too sweet. bacardidaiquiri.glam.com

Under $100: Pierre Hardy for Gap Mary Jane Pumps

Tuesday, August 16, 2011 • Permalink •

Pierre Hardy for Gap Womens Design Editions Ankle Strap Pump
If you've had your eye on the most recent Pierre Hardy for Gap Design Editions Mary Janes, but couldn't quite stomach the $125 price tag, a recent price reduction might be just what you need to justify snapping up the festive shoes.

In the latest round of reductions, Gap marked down the grey leather with tangerine cotton trim pair to under $100. $96.99 to be exact. Is it the world's best markdown? Eh, no. But it's probably as low as you'll see these limited edition shoes before they completely disappear.

These chic little pumps are technically from the Fall 2011 collection -- gotta love the strange fashion world calendar when it means that you can score stuff that technically isn't even in season yet on sale. Pair these shoes with capri-length trousers to show off their style, or team with long jeans for a more understated look -- the pointy toe will look great peeking out from under a flare.

→ Buy the Pierre Hardy for Gap Design Editions Mary Janes, $96.99 (was $125), at gap.com.

Under $100: Taryn Rose Foxxy Flats

Monday, August 15, 2011 • Permalink •

Taryn Rose Foxxy Flat
It's no secret that I'm prejudiced against any shoe label that markets itself as a "comfort" or "healthy" shoe. Really, that's normally code for "ugly orthopedic looking shoe I don't want to wear". But, that stereotype doesn't always hold up when it comes to Taryn Rose, a high-end shoe label created by an orthopedic surgeon turned shoe designer. Really, for a"comfort" shoe label, Taryn Rose is pretty stylish.

But, the elusive combination of comfort and style comes at a price. And that price is much higher than I'd normally be willing to pay for a healthy shoe -- generally between $200 and $500 a pair, depending on the style. So, you can see why this sale find is particularly tempting. It's a simple, yet good looking Taryn Rose flat for less than the price of a new pair of Steve Maddens.

The Taryn Rose Foxxy Flat -- available in Black, Plum and Red -- has a leather up with poron footbed. Yeah, I did a little research: poron is kind of like fancy shoe memory foam. The leather sole has rubber islands for extra anti-slipperiness. The Black pair is classic, but the Red and Plum pairs are the stand outs -- if you are going to go comfort, it might as well also add a little color to your closet while it's at it.

→ Buy the Taryn Rose Foxxy Flat, $39.95 (was $195), at 6pm.com.

4 Red, Green and Orange Picks to Perk Up Your Look

Thursday, August 11, 2011 • Permalink •

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Red, green and orange alert! Yes, red and green are colors from a stoplight, but they are colors that go beautifully together and with many others. These eye opening colors keep any fashion look exciting and well worth a spontaneous purchase. This doesn’t necessarily mean go splurge on a bright orange dress or buy green shoes. As I always say, it all depends on your personality. Personally, I would flaunt a bright orange bag but some may be more comfortable with an orange scarf with print. Whatever your preference, incorporating these powerful and alert colors will get you some positive attention.

Bebe might be a little risqué for the mature crowd, but I found a very simple classic dress that will touch everyone’s red soft spot. This '70s-inspired dress is flirty and feminine with layered chiffon and a faux wrap design. I especially like this dress because it will do well in many different functions. Its not tight or a bare-all dress. The dress has a couple cute, tiny details such as a tie around waist, and rectangle cut in the back. Wear this dress proudly with some sandals and with pumps in the fall, and you’ve got a dress that can cover two seasons!

J.Crew Fall Shoes: 5 Pair to Crave Now

Thursday, August 11, 2011 • Permalink •

Over the years, my shoe crushes have been many and varied. But recently I've been drawn back to one of my original footwear loves -- J.Crew shoes.

With all of the Choos and Loubies in the world, why J.Crew? It's simple... literally. J.Crew's shoes, much like their clothes, are studies in simplicity and classic lines, punctuated by unexpected, yet understated, colors. I love the fact that J.Crew shoes come in 5 different shades of lush brown-grey. I love that J.Crew doesn't make shoes that will be out of style next year, or even 10 years from now. And I love that J.Crew shoes let your clothes shine, without shrinking into the shadows.

The new Fall J.Crew catalog has so many fabulous shoes that I find myself suddenly craving a new pair (or 3 or 4). From ladylike, to casual to rugged, there is a little bit of something for everyone in the new Fall collection. I know you'll agree with me when you see the great shoes they have lined up for Fall. Here are my top 5 picks for J.Crew Fall shoes you'll crave right now:

Available in 5 gorgeous, saturated colors, this simple pump is a wardrobe staple. The classic almond-shaped toe and refined silhouette means this shoe will wear out before it goes out of style.

New & Hot: Sperry Top-Sider x Jeffrey Covered Pump in Python

Wednesday, August 10, 2011 • Permalink •

Sperry Top-Sider x Jeffrey Authentic Original Covered Pump in embossed python
What: Sperry Top-Sider x Jeffrey Authentic Original Covered Pump in embossed python

Why it's hot: Let me count the ways. Let's start with its star-making turn in the September issue of Lucky magazine's Fall Shoe Guide. Then, let's talk about the effortless collaboration between preppy staple label Sperry Top-Sider and the exquisitely curated Jeffrey store of New York and Atlanta fame. Finally, what about that just-odd-enough-to-be-fabulous combination of laid back boat shoe and uptown python-embossed leather pump? I'm in love with this shoe, and as soon as the fashionista masses make it to page 234 of their September Lucky, it's going to sell out. Mark my words.

What to wear it with: Spring's ladylike style will be bleeding over right into Fall, and nowhere is that more evident than in the return of the high-heeled loafer. A little more refined than in its mid-'90s heyday, the heeled loafer is going to be one of the it shoes for Fall. Pair this Sperry Top-Sider x Jeffrey version with all of your pencil skirts and wasp-waisted dresses.

But, don't stop there. The substantial heel -- a bit of an anomaly amongst its Fall 2011 loafer brethren -- means that this high heel loafer will also do well anchoring a pair of wide-leg trousers, or even your favorite wide-leg jeans. Plus, the chunky heel makes this reptile-embossed shoe a perfect pump for your workday -- classic, refined and oh-so-walkable.

Python not quite wild enough for you? This special collaboration shoe is also available in a range of Fall-perfect bright suede shades -- from Green to Magenta -- as well as Black Patent.

Fashion Cents: Jean Jacket Style

Wednesday, August 10, 2011 • Permalink •

--By Kimberly Turner

Rumor has it that the first jean jacket was designed in 1873 by Levi's. That would make the jean jacket 138 years old! But unlike many things back in that time, the jean jacket has remained pretty much the same. Sometimes it gets a little added bling or color or lengthened or shortened or distressed or chained or...you get it; but in the end, the classic style continues to endure. And there is good reason to keep this classic style around, it is multifaceted...it adds an easy and fashionable layer of warmth plus it can tone down a dressy outfit or dress up a really casual one.

If you stick with a classic style and a dark wash you will find (if you don't already know) that it can be one of your most worn wardrobe pieces. And the bonus, it doesn't have to cost you a lot. I bought the one I wore in this video from Old Navy for only $25.

Now watch the video for more jean jacket style. Make sense?

Nike Training Club Week 2: A Slow Start

Nike Training Club - Make Yourself

You'll remember that last week I announced that I'd be taking the Nike Training Club Challenge -- 6 weeks of working out with the new (and free!) Nike Training Club App for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and documenting my experience here on Stiletto Jungle. I let you all in on the challenge and what I'd be up to, and this past week was supposed to be my first week of working out. But, wouldn't you know it, real life had other plans for me.

An unexpected injury of the desk-jockey variety kept me away from the Nike Training Club all week. One of the perils of being a Silicon Valley over-achiever: the dreaded computer neck. But, I'm convinced I'll be back at it in time for week 3.

So, let's talk a bit more about what I'm up to with the Nike Training Club. As you may remember, I selected the Get Toned program. At 5'8" and 118 pounds I'm already quite slim... but my sedentary lifestyle has left me a little on the soft side. Get Toned seems just right for people like me as it is designed to add definition. My goal is to firm up my wobbly bits and build a little strength into my overall physique.

I've been playing with the App a bit more, since actually working out wasn't going to work this week, and I'm increasingly impressed with the features. For example, the ability to work out to music from your own library (instead of someone else's canned idea of motivational music), and the super customizable workouts -- from time, to fitness level (see screenshot above), to actual exercises. Since you don't get to hear a detailed account of my workouts this week, I thought you'd enjoy this video of one of the Nike Training Club Get Toned exercises, from Nike Women:

Isn't it awesome how easy they make learning these new exercises? I'm so ready to start working out! Fearless readers, there's still plenty of time to download the app and take the Nike Training Club Challenge with me. Don't forget, you'll have the chance to win some fabulous prizes (more on that soon!). Stay tuned next week for more details about my progress and experiences with the App.

The Nike Training Club App is a full-body functional training app designed for you to make yourself whatever you want to be. Whether you’re looking to get lean, toned, or strong, NTC takes every workout to the next level. Download it here.

Chanel Peridot Nail Polish: The Newest It Shade

Thursday, August 04, 2011 • Permalink •

Chanel Peridot Nail Polish
We've covered Chanel's gift for creating sell-out nail colors pretty closely over the years. From Particuliere to Paradoxal to Black Pearl, Chanel nail polishes are pretty much destined to be the color of the season. So, what's new and next? Good money is on Chanel Peridot Nail Polish.

Chanel's Peridot follows in the ongoing trend of green nail colors. But, this green gets a little extra kick from a subtle golden sheen. Celebrated nail salon owner Soon Choi, quoted in the August issue of In Style magazine, describes Peridot as "...a mix of industrial metal and snakeskin." Kind of fabulous, right?

Bottom line, Chanel Peridot is bright enough to be a favorite Summer shade, but has enough heft to see you through Fall. It's not quite a neutral, but it won't clash with most modern clothing. And, it's magically still available for purchase at retail price at Saks Fifth Avenue. Given that Chanel's It colors have a habit of selling out and then reappearing on eBay at 10 times the retail price (yes, people have paid upwards of $300 for a sold out shade), I'd snap up a bottle why you still can.

→ Buy Chanel Peridot Nail Polish, $25.00, at saks.com.

Take the Nike Training Club Challenge with Stiletto Jungle

Nike Training Club - Make Yourself

I've said it before, and I'll admit it here again, physical activity and I have a complicated relationship. Once upon a time, in my less busy school days, I was quite active. But, with a full time job and two side businesses, my free time is almost non-existent. I might be able to carve out 30 minutes to work out, but I certainly don't have time to track down a personal trainer or read up on the best ways to accomplish my modest fitness goals. Solutions seem slim.

Enter the Nike Training Club App, available for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. I was introduced to this new app as a bit of a challenge: give it a download, let it help you reach for your fitness goals, and keep track of your progress for all to see. Ok, a little personal, but I'm always up for a challenge. And, hey, this might actually work. How much easier can it get than an app I can take anywhere that will help me be my version of fit, using workouts that are targeted at specific fitness goals from getting lean to targeting problem areas? Plus, the Nike Training Club app has details, diagrams, and step-by-step instructions for more than 60 full-body workouts, and a rewards program to keep me motivated. I'm totally game.

woman working out - stretching

So, here's the deal. I've downloaded my trusty app to my iPod Touch -- it's free for anyone to try, by the way. I've selected my program -- Get Toned, a workout with light weights designed to add definition. I'm slim already, but, um, a little on the soft side. Firmer arms and legs would definitely make me more confident in my favorite summer fashions. Get Toned seems like it was meant for me. I'll be giving it a go for the next 6 weeks, updating all of you each Wednesday right here on Stiletto Jungle.

Readers, I could sure use some company. So, how about some of you download the app and come along with me on this journey? It will be fun. And, you have the chance to win some fabulous prizes. Stay tuned next week for information about the Nike Training Club Sweepstakes, where you'll have the chance to win prizes towards your fitness goals!

Here we go...

The Nike Training Club App is a full-body functional training app designed for you to make yourself whatever you want to be. Whether you’re looking to get lean, toned, or strong, NTC takes every workout to the next level. Download it here.

Under $100: Steve Madden P-Selena Wedges

Tuesday, August 02, 2011 • Permalink •

Steve Madden P-Selena Wedges
Looking for a fabulous shoe quick fix for under $100? Check out this super cute new find...

I fell hard for covered wedge shoes when they first became super popular last year. It's the look created by the large expanse of seamless leather that I love. It's sleek and modern, yet minimalist -- it's all about the color and silhouette, not crazy details.

These sale-priced Steve Madden P-Selena wedges are simple with their almond-shaped toe and 4.25" covered wedge heel. They come in Distressed Cognac (shown here) and Black. Both feature a leather upper with manmade sole. Wear the Cognac color with summery dresses. Pair the more refined Black pair with skinny trousers to create a runway-inspired vibe. Both would look great with jeans, no matter what time of year.

→ Buy the Steve Madden P-Selena Wedges, $53.97 (was $89.95), at 6pm.com.

Nude Heels for Every Skin Tone: 12 Hot Pair

Monday, August 01, 2011 • Permalink •

It's no secret that nude heels are a closet staple. Pair a nude heel with your favorite skirt or dress and suddenly your legs look a mile long. It's a well known trick of starlets and other enviable fashion types -- even Kate Middleton's nude pumps have been a headline. But, the very mention of nude pumps begs the question: who's version of nude are we talking about?

Just like other supposedly "nude" necessities -- Band-Aids and bras spring to mind -- nude shoes can look anything but if your skin tone deviates from what the company in question has decided is flesh toned. But, some companies are wising up and creating new nudes in a range of shades... it just takes some looking. So, if you are in the market for a new, leg-lengthening shoe that actually approximates your skin color, check out these hot finds. We've rounded up 12 nude heels that cover a range of skin tones, from ivory to mocha.
