--Guest Post By Liz Conaty

Now that October is upon us, summer is behind us and fall and winter are ahead. Even though many of the places in the world are still facing warm temperatures, fashions have switched to fall palettes and styles for cooler weather. If you are lucky enough to live in a cooler climate, you can fully embrace the switch from warm to cool weather. If not, you can still bring a little hint of fall into your life by beginning to incorporate some fall women’s clothing trends into your wardrobe while still wearing some of your summer pieces.

To maintain a fashionable look through fall 2012, incorporate some or all of the following 5 fashion trends into your women’s clothes wardrobe:

Dresses with draped necklines
This is an easy style to work into your wardrobe no matter the current temperatures. The fashion runways for fall 2012 saw many different designers employing the use of draped necklines into their fashions. Look for necklines that are higher and draped at the same time for the ultimate fall 2012 look. In a cooler climate, look for women’s dresses with long sleeves and in warmer climates, choose dresses with short sleeves.

Cozy sweaters
The cozy sweater is back in full swing for fall 2012 after being away for several years. The past few years have seen sweaters come back on a fringe level, but now the trend has become mainstream. Today’s sweaters are made in two drastically different styles.

The first sweater style is a tight-fitting sweater like those seen in the 1960s and 1970s. These sweaters can be belted and worn with dresses and skirts as well as pants. The other style of sweater is big and bulky much like the sweaters worn in the 1980s. These sweaters are meant to be worn with skinny jeans or leggings for the ultimate cozy fall look.

Contrast collars
One way to brighten up the appearance of any women’s dress in fall 2012 is with a detachable contrast collar. These collars are meant to stand out from the rest of the outfit and often have bright colors, beads, studs, or other accessories to bring interest to any outfit. Both Peter Pan style collars and Oxford style collars are popular for fall 2012. Adding a collar to your wardrobe will instantly transition your outfits to 2012.

Wide brim hats
This year’s accessories look is all about 1970s-inspired fashions. This extends to wide-brimmed hats that are often paired with long-sleeve flowing blouses and pleated skirts. The wide brimmed hats come in a variety of colors and materials to suit any taste. Wear your hat with skirts, dresses, and pants to bring an extra element of texture and interest to any clothing pieces in your wardrobe. This hat style is replacing the old beanie or cloche hat popular a few years ago.

Eugenia Kim Blake Portrait Hat

Adding a few of these pieces to your wardrobe will help you transition from warm to cool weather in fashionable style. You don’t have to add a lot of new pieces to your wardrobe to stay current. Many of the fashions popular for fall 2012 are accessory pieces that will work well with existing pieces in your wardrobe from seasons past. Mix the styles from several seasons to avoid looking like a fashion trend disaster.
