As the days slowly grow longer snow melts from the sidewalks, many of us longingly anticipate the sunshine of spring - with the mild climate being right around the corner, you know wedding season isn't too far behind. You can incorporate the season’s latest trends to create a stylish, fun look as you prepare to eat delicious cake, pose for photographs and be spun about on the dance floor.

Dresses featuring cutouts and translucent materials like lace were all the rage on the runways, and you can easily incorporate this trend into your spring wedding attire while still exuding class and not stealing attention from the brides.

Another trend you can expect to see more of is material that features beading, thick stripes and dramatic contrasts in color (black and white pairings are being seen all over the runway). To add some flirty bounce to your look, embrace the growing spring trend of ruffles. If you’re lacking inspiration, Pantone has released their choices for the top spring hues, including nectarine, dusk blue, emerald and African violet.

One handy article of clothing for a spring wedding is a shawl, cover-up or blazer; not only will it protect you from a potential chill, but it will assist with maintaining modesty while in the church and yet can be easily peeled off as the reception turns festive. Furthermore, if you plan on wearing certain articles to multiple affairs, a nice sweater can help add variety to the same dress and, reversely, can be easily worn with a number of different ensembles.

Nordstrom Whisper Cashmere Wrap

→ Buy the Nordstrom Whisper Cashmere Wrap, $78.00, at nordstrom.com; shipping and returns are free.

Similarly, if you plan on attending numerous weddings, consider investing in accessories that can be subtly matched with a number of different outfits to complement rather than steal the show; this includes purses (I love the ones offered by Dorothy Perkins), jewelry (American Bridal has a generous selection) as well as shoes (check out these nude pumps from Steve Madden).

Jimmy Choo Crown Pump

→ Buy the Jimmy Choo Crown Pump, $695.00, at nordstrom.com; shipping and returns are free.

When choosing a dress, be mindful of any indicators on the invitation that indicate the affair's fanciness as well as the venue. Additionally, be mindful of the times in which the wedding is being held, especially if the dress code is “semi-formal”; daytime affairs can feature soft colors, higher hemlines and delicate makeup; evening receptions generally should be more dressy and bolder colors (even black) are more appropriate in the nighttime setting.

Above all else though, remember to pick a look that makes you feel confident, elegant and comfortable.
