Peek-a-Boo Fashion: The Slit Isn’t Just for Skirts Anymore

Watching the VMAs made me realize how slits don’t have to be on the back of a pencil skirt or the side of a dress anymore. There were some creative displays of the slit on gorgeous celeb dresses at the awards ceremony. It was the inspiration for today’s post.

A slit doesn’t have to be overly risqué to make the cut (literally). Sometimes a slight cut bearing minimal skin can transform a plain jane dress into a stylin’ fall look with the right amount of sex appeal.

Simplicity at its finest is what I would call my first feature. This low-key, but ultra-sexy Yigal Azrouel dress is classic. The dress incorporates leather, making it a fashion-forward option, appealing, and a suitable cocktail dress for fall. We all know we can never have enough cocktail dresses around. The slits are subtle and placed right at the shoulder, breaking up the transition from one material to another beautifully.

Next up is a tunic with a few slits on the back. This is a very glamorous top that is more than meets the eye. Initially, it looks very summery but envision it paired with black, wide-leg pants for a stunning nighttime look. It’s nice to fancy up pants once in a while as an alternative to an evening dress.

The red version is my favorite because it would go well with fall’s luxury blues and greens, and gold shimmery accessories. This fabulous, back-bearing top is definitely the top that will transform your work pant into a knockout evening look.

More of a simple, old-school gal? Then this fit and flare dress may be a nice option for you. It will never really go out of style, but it’s not an over-the-top kind of dress. In my fashion opinion, this is what I call a “safe dress.”

The color of this dress is in season and the slits are subdued among the beaded mesh. This mesh gives a little sass to an otherwise clean and conservative dress. The reason I chose this dress is that it is a flattering option for most body types.
