New Label Love: Studio Nicholson Does Euro Menswear for Women

Tuesday, October 07, 2014

Although designer Nick Wakeman launched the Studio Nicholson label back in 2010, I just ran across her gorgeous designs this week. I’ve definitely been missing out.

London-based Wakeman is a former menswear designer who takes her inspiration for this ladies line from the classic ease of a European man’s wardrobe. The result is simple, timeless silhouettes in luxurious fabrics. This beautiful line could go from work to weekend, and, like the best menswear investments, will be a relevant part of your wardrobe for years if not decades.

Check out some of my current favorite pieces from Studio Nicholson…

These cropped wool flannel trousers have an elastic waist that could have easily given off a dowdy vibe. But, instead they have this air of easy luxury. How can you pass up work pants that wear like pajamas?

Keeping with the relaxed luxe look, this cashmere and cotton sweater covers both the office and the weekend. The sweater is felted, meaning that the soft cashmere knit is fused to a stiff cotton backing, creating a sense of structure in a fabric that is usually known for slouchy ease. The end result is gorgeous.

This boxy crewneck wool blend sweater looks, at the same time, both completely classic and daringly modern. The dark navy color is also a nice departure from black, while still feeling neutral. Altogether, a well-balanced wardrobe staple.

This relaxed-fit boucle coat has a distinctive vintage borrowed-from-the-boys look. I love the idea of this coat paired with skinny jeans, a tee, and a big scarf for fall. It will add a layer of gorgeous to any outfit.
