The funnel neck sweater isn’t a new invention, but it is having a major moment this season. For the first time I can recall, funnel neck knits are front and center.
Let’s talk a bit about the funnel neck. This cut is essentially the three-quarter sleeve of the neckline. It’s taller than a crewneck, but falls short of a full-on turtleneck. It’s distinguishable from the mock turtleneck by its slightly shorter, looser, tapered fit. And, in my opinion, that’s all it takes to make a funnel neck vibe infinitely cooler than a mock turtleneck.
Now let’s take a walk through some of my favorite funnel neck sweaters of the season.
At the luxe end of the spectrum, this cashmere-blend funnel neck from The Row gets an extra dose of cozy from extra-long sleeves.

Over in the bargain department, the batwing sleeves on this sweater add a modern twist. It's also a dead ringer for a much more expensive sweater by The Row.

I think this affordable Massimo Dutti sweater might be my favorite. I love the combination of barely-there funnel neck and straight-cut drop sleeves. So dramatic.

Chunky knits are one of the best things about winter fashion. The addition of the funnel neck to this alpaca blend sweater creates a blanket-like vibe.

A stepped hem that hangs lower in the back means this is the perfect sweater for pairing with skinny jeans or leggings. It’s available in both heather bone and heather tech grey colors.
