Trend Worth Trying: Short Shorts

Tuesday, June 30, 2015

--By Kim Moshtaghi

‘Tis the season to wear short shorts!

Although some people do not love short shorts because they are not always worn appropriately, short shorts is a trend worth talking about. This trend may become an option for those of you who instinctively want to rule out short shorts because I can show you some fashion tricks that will provide you with many ways to flatter your body. For example, try wearing baggier shorts that accentuate your waist with looser tops or tank tops, belts, and heels. This combination will focus everyone’s attention on your waist while allowing you to put your best legs forward.

Sometimes I think wrap shorts are perfect. They are stylish, exude the allure of a skirt, and allow movement without looking like you’re baring too much leg (even though you are). My first feature is a great example of this chic style. This short accentuates the waist and mimics a skirt, which is what gives it ultra-appeal, but keeps you from having to worry about keeping your legs crossed at all times. With that said, I would gear away from wearing this style with stilettos unless you are very dainty. Instead, wear with embellished sandals or wedges.

Loving This Week: A Breezy Chambray Skirt + Summer Accessories

Monday, June 29, 2015

Eileen Fisher Skirt - S'Well Water Bottle - Jeffrey Campbell Loafers - Illesteva Sunglasses - Azalea Scarf

I’ve never been great at summer accessorizing. I’m much more of a fall and winter kind of person, so my summer looks tend to be more minimalist. But, this week, I’ve found some summer accessories that pique my interest. I also found a fabulously simple chambray skirt that is summer perfect.

Check out all of my favorite online shopping finds from this week…

1. Eileen Fisher Gathered Chambray Skirt, $168.00
This pull-on black wash chambray skirt has a breezy, comfy vibe that is exactly what a person needs on a really hot summer day. I’d wear it with a slouchy white tee and ugly-chic sandals of the Birkenstock variety.

Trend Worth Trying: Cat Eye Sunglasses

Thursday, June 25, 2015

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Cat eye sunglasses are all the talk. The funkier, the better!

When I see cat eye glasses I always think about Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn wore those cool cat eye prescription glasses in How to Marry a Millionaire. Nowadays, cat eye design glasses are all the rage when it comes to fun in the sun.

Nordstrom has a wonderful selection of cat eye sunglasses, so it is a great one-stop shop! Designers are inventing creative and fun designs and the sky seems to be the limit. There are all kinds of variations stemming from the famous cat eye look that can either turn you off or inspire you. Hopefully, the products I’m featuring will make you want to dive into the past and soak up the sun with some old school glamour.

My first feature is for all the bold divas out there. It’s a fun twist on the aviator and cat eye design. The cool lens gives off a shiny reflection. These are not for everyone, but will make a great accessory for those that are willing to flaunt them with confidence and have an overall fun wardrobe or style to compliment this pair.

What to Wear Wine Tasting This Summer

Wednesday, June 24, 2015

--By Kim Moshtaghi

When summer arrives wine tasting becomes a hit. Since summer is full of tastings, I feel it’s appropriate to showcase the proper attire for the various events.

Whether you are going to a vineyard or a private party you always want to be fashion-forward, but consider wearing different footwear depending on the destination. If it’s a vineyard you’ll want to stick to flats or wedges for comfort because of the extensive walking.

My first pick can be worn in any kind of setting, but will look lovely with heels. It is a stunning mint-aqua color that is making a big splash this season. It is a flawless color and it flatters both lighter and darker skin tones beautifully. I like this for an evening wine tasting event with heels because it gives off a very carefree vibe. The long sleeves and the cascading drapey v-neck allow breathing room to drink and eat without feeling guilty, while looking fab!

5 Versatile Cross-Body Bags for Stylish Summer Travel

Tuesday, June 16, 2015

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Cross-body bags are easy to carry and the best bag to take on a trip. Since it’s a bag that you don’t put down, it prevents you from losing personal, valuable possessions such as a passport. And since the cross-body bags I am featuring are all small, they will force you to carry only the essentials. I focused on featuring small cross-body bags that are versatile in color, but bold enough to be able to wear with all kind of outfits from day to evening.

Going along with our black and white summer trend, this cross-body bag is right on the money. Its simplistic black and white pattern gives it a fun retro flair. Its crisp clutch-like look gives it an alluring appeal and allows you to wear during the day and evening. The envelope style and the top black color block make this bag very glamorous and old school looking.

Loving This Week: Daily Basics + Early Pre-Fall Picks

Monday, June 15, 2015

Theory Dress - Vince Jacket - Need Supply Tote - The Horse Watch - Madewell Tee

This week’s online shopping picks are a mix of daily basics that are smart buys year-round, plus a couple early pre-fall finds. Just when I’m getting used to summer, the fall items start rolling in and I’m suddenly craving fall weather. Go figure.

Here’s what’s lurking in my online shopping cart this week…

1. Theory Koldeen Knit Dress, $345.00
This rich wine red shade seems to be one of the It colors for the season, and I don’t mind one bit. This color is dark enough to feel as sleek and classic as black, but well suited to sunny days.

Snap Up These 5 Closet Staples at the Maison Scotch Sale

Tuesday, June 09, 2015

Maison Scotch, the women’s brand from Amsterdam-based label Scotch & Soda, has just announced a huge sale, featuring a range of spring items.

If you haven’t browsed a Maison Scotch sale before, you should be warned: these sales are notoriously huge. As in, lots and lots of items on sale. The options range from florals and logo-wear to the more desirable (in my opinion) closet staples that will be useful for seasons to come. I’ve picked five favorites that are both versatile and great deals. Check out my finds…

This slouchy sweatshirt, which is inexplicably referred to as a “sweater,” is a perfect layering piece for cool, casual summer nights. It comes in three colors, and features mesh insets along the sides, which nicely vibes with this season’s sporty trend.

Loving This Week: Summer Stripes + New Diorshow Mascara

Monday, June 08, 2015

Rag and Bone Shirt - Glamorous Shirtdress - Bec and Bridge Dress - Eileen Fisher Espadrilles - Dior Mascara - Tibi Blouse

If, like me, your wardrobe skews minimalist, summer can present some sartorial problems. A downtown-chic, primarily black and white wardrobe doesn’t quite cover all of the social occasions summer presents. For those days when an LBD feels like overkill, there are stripes. I found some great summer stripes this week, plus there’s the little matter of the brand new Diorshow Mascara formula.

Here’s what’s in my online shopping cart this week…

1. Rag & Bone Manon Striped Shirt, $295.00
This classic cotton silk blouse with subtle grey stripes gets a modern silhouette with the oversized, boxy fit and mandarin collar. Like so many Rag & Bone shirts, this new blouse can be dressed up for the office or down for the weekend.

3 Must-Haves from the 3x1 Denim Sale

Friday, June 05, 2015

My current denim fantasy: a pair of bespoke 3x1 denim jeans, custom fit at their 15 Mercer store/ mini-factory in NYC. Until that time, there’s ready-to-wear, made better by sale prices.

3x1’s catalog of denim creations isn’t huge, so, naturally, the sale isn’t that big either. There are only eleven items on sale, but each one is a winner. But, since purchasing all eleven isn’t realistic, I’ve narrowed the selection down to three exceptional choices.

This straight-leg jean has a warm weather-friendly cropped shape and gorgeous medium blue wash. The denim blend is 98% cotton with 2% stretch, for a great fit.

Creative Black and White Options for Summer

Tuesday, June 02, 2015

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Black and white is an elegant way to wear fashion that is appropriate for all occasions. The two colors from the opposite side of the spectrum complement each other wonderfully, and the combination isn’t loud and doesn’t offend anyone. There are all kinds of amazing fashion forward options to purchase when it comes to black and white choices. Since these solid colors go with any other color combinations, don’t be shy -- get creative and pair with a bolder color or pattern.

First up check out a little spin on the shirtdress. It’s a straight cut spiced up by the checker pattern and cinched with a simple belt. This is a great casual and comfortable dress to have on hand for the summer bbqs or picnics when you otherwise have nothing to wear.
