Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Women around the world are trying to decide which romantic movie to drag their boyfriends to, The Vow or This Means War. Wouldn't it be nice if all department stores followed suit? Since it's likely they won't, now is a good time to brush up on your department-store shopping skills with these seven tips to save at your favorite stores.

1. Shop Thursdays
While online shopping experiences a spike in sales on Mondays, department stores often mark down clothing on Thursdays in anticipation of weekend shoppers. 2. Gift Yourself (and Your Wallet)
If you're anything like me, you've already burned through those gifts cards you received over the holidays. 3. Befriend Sales Associates

5. Get Smart
Retailers are making it easy to stay informed about upcoming sales, thanks to e-mail alerts and Facebook updates. But how often have you left a coupon at home or failed to print it from your inbox? Mobile coupons to the rescue! Tools like the Coupon Sherpa mobile app give you access to mobile coupons to use in-store. Just pull up the offer and hand your smartphone to the cashier. Phew!

6. Reward Yourself
Most credit cards have a rewards program, so take a look at your account to determine if you can redeem points for gift cards. If you have the budget and are disciplined enough to pay off your credit card every month, you might consider charging everyday expenses on your card to increase those reward points and pay for "fun" stuff with earned points. 7. Retain Receipts
In an effort to de-clutter our cars, purses and file cabinets, receipts are often tossed immediately after a purchase. However, it's a good idea to hang onto receipts for up to 30 days should the item you bought receive a price reduction. Keeping tabs on an item you've already purchased can score you unexpected savings.

Finding fun, fashionable weekday clothes is pretty easy, all things considered. Finding fun, fashionable weekend clothes that are super comfy, but don't make you look like you left your fashion sense at teh office? Well, that can be tricky. That's why I'm loving this brand new pullover from J.Crew.

I first spotted the J.Crew Waffle Pullover in the newest J.Crew catalog (the one catalog that's still on my must-read list, BTW). It was styled weekend-cool with skinny pants. I instantly loved it. It's slouchy and cozy-looking, but so much more interesting that a plain sweatshirt or long-sleeved tee. The baseball tee style is a clearly casual look, but the waffle texture makes it a little more fashionista.

This cotton pullover comes in four colors -- Blue Sea, Heather Chalk, Copper and Port Blue. The Heather Chalk, a pale cream color, was the one styled in the catalog and is my favorite because of its versatility. I'd order this shirt a size big to ensure a super slouchy, weekend-perfect fit.

Spring Preview: Chic Skirts to Wear Now and Later

Skirts are back again, and, although it is cold outside, you can always keep warm with some thick stockings or leggings. Although I love dresses, I do respect skirts because it takes more effort to incorporate a skirt with an entire ensemble than it does to incorporate a dress with an ensemble. Furthermore, the process of incorporating a skirt with an ensemble triggers my creative juices.

Skirts are playful and comfortable, especially the pleated and bohemian skirts featured during this season, which represented a needed change from the sharp cut, classic silhouette pencil skirts that we saw a lot in the winter. Both are amazing, but remember when the weather starts getting warmer the tighter the skirt the more uncomfortable you become.

Let’s start off with a classic showcase before I creep into the sexy choices. My first highlight is from Anthropologie. It is a simple black pleated skirt with a lot of character, which the zig-zag design on the bottom half of the skirt reveals. This is a great skirt to put on for the office environment without cutting off your circulation. Red lipstick and a set of pearls will really make this skirt a good choice.

Moving away from black for a moment, I highly recommend this spicy Anthropologie short skirt. This reddish-orange belted Fresna skirt is a long, sassy skirt that is a perfect match for the tall, slender gals. If you are short and curvy I would definitely pass on this number. The color and gold accents really make this skirt pop!

Next up, I recommend that everyone check out this yellow/ lime green pleated skirt. This color goes well with any of the bold accessories that are coming up in the fashion world. This skirt has a very pleated and sophisticated look, but I wouldn’t go bold when choosing a top. Instead, I will pair it with funky and bolds accessories.

3 Top Diet Tips for Radiant Hair, Soft Skin & Healthy Nails

You are what you eat.

As such, how your body looks and feels is directly related to well you nourish it. You likely use a variety of skin care and beauty products to help keep your skin moist and smooth. Yet, most of the ingredients in those products are actually derived from natural foods.

Vitamins such as A, C and E have detoxifying properties and are found in most lotions. There are also some skin care products that contain natural acids that are originally found in citrus fruits.

Today I’m going to show you the best foods that you can buy right now that will give you the same benefits as the top beauty and skin care cosmetics (but at a far lower price). Including these foods to your diet regularly will give you some great improvements in the density of your nails, make your skin smoother and make your hair stronger (just make sure you eat these foods – don’t rub them over you. I thought I should point that out just in case. There’s always one who take the information the wrong way…)

Tip #1: Drink More Water
Let’s start with an easy one. Dehydration is common in many people, and leads to dry skin.

Water is also essential for flushing out toxins from your body. If left unfiltered, these toxins will eventually manifest in your skin, hair and nails.

Start including a glass of water with each meal, and drink at least another half-litre throughout the day. In doing so you’ll also feel more alert, have a better mood and will have more energy.

Tip #2: Eat More Fat!
This may sound like blasphemy, but the truth is that most people don’t eat enough healthy fats. Healthy fats are used by the body to grow hair and nails, reducing brittleness, and also to give your skin a healthy glow.

Healthy fat also lowers inflammation in your body. When inflammation under your skin and in your blood vessels is reduced you’ll get more healthy nutrients delivered to your hair, skin and nails. This can help in dealing with split-ends, as well as reducing wrinkled skin and lines.

To make sure you’re getting enough healthy fat I recommend having at least 2 eggs per day, use extra virgin olive oil generously on your salads, and supplement with an omega-3 fish oil capsule. You can also use nuts and seeds as snacks to get an extra boost of healthy fats.

Tip #3: Reduce Toxins
If you are like most women, you are likely to be drowning in toxins. We are bombarded with toxins from processed foods, lack of exercise and from our environments.

As mentioned, toxins can block several processes in the body and stop healthy nutrients being delivered to your hair and nails. Your skin is the organ that eventually has to remove these toxins from your body, and as such this is why you may have dry patches, course or oily skin and blackheads. The toxins are coming up through the skin (your body is pushing them out) and this leads to some nasty side effects.

Help your body out by reducing the toxins you consume and by drinking more water to help flush existing toxins out (see Tip #1).

To eliminate toxins, reduce any processed foods including ‘white’ carbs such as white bread and pasta, and of course junk food. Eat more organic foods and grass-fed lean meat and poultry.

Full-body massage and other treatments offered by beauty therapists (such as lymphatic drainage) can also aid in flushing out toxins.

In addition to these tips, don’t forget to be exercising at least 3 times a week using resistance and body-toning workouts. Exercise will get blood flowing to the skin, hair and nails to keep them healthy, and to keep you looking young and radiant.

3 Secrets for Snagging Designer Style for Less

Little style secrets. What fashionista doesn't have them? From secret shopping behaviors, to closely guarded best stores, to the name of the top personal shopper at the local luxe department store, we all have something we consider the secret to our success.

When U by Kotex invited me to spill my most closely guarded style secret as part of their newest campaign, I thought it would be a lot of fun. My biggest style secret? Despite the apparent fabulousness of my luxe-label-filled wardrobe, I never pay full price for designer fashion. Here's how I pull it off...

1. Learn to love off-price and outlets
I'd say that about half of my wardrobe comes from off-price and outlet stores. No, that doesn't mean that I have a closet full of weird sizes and no-name brands. I regularly snag labels like Vince, Helmut Lang and Theory at half-price. My favorite destinations: Loehmann's Back Room and Last Call by Neiman Marcus. Browse online daily and in-store weekly for best results -- these kinds of stores have high merchandise turnover. And be sure to check out our video tips for off-price shopping to get the most out of your experience.

2. Get into the online sample sale habit
Online flash and sample sales regularly have big name designers on sale, often as much as 80% off retail price. Just be sure to double check prices against department store sale sections to ensure you are receiving the lowest price, particularly factoring in shipping. Flash sale sites may charge up to $15 for shipping, while the Nordstrom sale section, for example, ships free. Altogether, tracking the sample sale sites is well worth the time. In fact, my own love for the sample sale sites led to our own daily online sample sale tracking section on Stiletto Jungle.

3. Snag designer shoes at Bluefly
You have to be diligent in your monitoring, but online outlet Bluefly can net some serious savings in the shoe department. I regularly find Jimmy Choo for around $300 a pair -- a massive savings. First of all, I've become kind of a sucker for any shoe that bills itself as a "wear-all-day walking shoe." I think it's a combination of advancing age (hey, don't laugh) and a ridiculous obsession with travel. Now that means you have to head out the door and pay full mark up?!?!? Well, not exactly. You could head over to the largest off-price retail chain, Ross Dress for Less, and get a great deal. I recently went to a blogger event that they had and got a dress for $49.99 that was still retailing at $168 at one of my favorite department stores.

Now, I was hesitant when I went to the event. I am not a big fan of stores that get closeouts because I typically think that the items are a little dated or the stores are just too cluttered. I found myself pleasantly surprised when I was at Ross. The store was well organized and the items were still in the department stores too (thus my amazing dress find). Now, I did come away from my experience at Ross with a few tips that should guarantee you shopping success, so watch this video for how to shop Ross Dress for Less on a budget.

It has been a while since I bought wedges, but I recently found myself falling head over heels for a pair of accessorized black suede wedges, and they inspired me to share some other great finds with everyone. I have always praised wedges for their comfort and casual look because whether you are out dancing or spending your time at work, wedges look stylish without killing your feet.

These next several showcases come from Nordstrom. First up is a pair of Nine West wedges that are colorful and have a gorgeous ankle strap that brightens every angle of the shoe. This is a great option for ladies that don't like wearing high heeled shoes.

At 7 inches tall, this heel is an extremely high, so be prepared! If walking in heels has always been a challenge for you, then I would definitely stay away, but if being tall and proud is your cup of tea then I wouldn't snooze on this bohemian pair. I think this shoe would look nice against a nice olive or tan skin tone color.

Spring Preview: The H&M Spring Trend Guide for Women

Affordable fashion happy place H&M has just released their Spring 2012 Trend Guide on video. Personally, I love watching H&M's trend guides each season. I get super overwhelmed when I walk in H&M -- all I can see is cheapie tees and polyester suits. But, when I've done my homework via the Trend Guide, I suddenly am able to pick out those 5 or 10 super special pieces that scream runway but cost practically nothing. It's such a great way to cheat... too bad it can't help you skip the pay line!

This year the H&M Trend Guide calls out pastels, new ways of color blocking, silk trousers, pencil skirts and grown up looks with great tailoring. Plenty of lovers will be swapping gold gifts for Valentines Day. Earrings, watches, maybe even an engagement ring. Amidst the love, magic and joy however could be the less than happy truth about where that gold came from and it’s a dirty secret few fail, or refuse to confront.

Gold has rocketed in price this year. The producers involved in gold mining don’t get as much attention as the banana or coffee bean producers of the world, but equally if not more serious social problems exist. Last July, BBC Dispatches programme highlighted these problems in the episode, ‘Dispatches: The Real Price of Gold’. Going undercover as a customer shopping in some of the biggest British jewellery stores, the journalist was given wildly misleading information by shop assistants. In Senegal, the journalist meets a child who works in an illegal mine, revealing his hazardous daily existence. Supply chains are difficult to trace, and quite frankly, a gold ring brought from many of the main retailers could have come from anywhere.

Fairtrade Gold

An estimated 15 million people work in artisanal and small scale mining, many illegally. On a daily basis they risk disease, serious injury and even death. Six times as many accidents occur in small scale mining than in large industrial mines. So how can you be sure your festive symbol of love isn’t tainted with a dark history?

On 14th February 2011 the first Fairtrade certified gold was launched. Certified by the Fairtrade Foundation, Fairtrade gold means that the miners receive a guaranteed minimum price, receive a premium payment which is invested in community projects and work to develop long term business relations. It also means that the miners adopt safe working practices, recognize the rights of female miners and are respectful of the environment.

Fairtrade Shopping

Fairtrade and Fairmined gold can now be purchased from more than 25 jewellers and clothes shops including Garrard, Cred, Fifi Bijoux and Leonard of London. The majority of Cred’s gold and platinum comes from small scale miners in Columbia. Cred’s unique 18ct white gold is made with a higher-than-normal palladium content, giving the same classic colour and finish with no need for Rhodium plating. They have a large range of beautiful, ethical, solitaire, trilogy and eternity rings at a price to suit every shopper.

Luxury London jeweller Garrard offer engagement rings in Fairtrade gold, as does jeweller Stephen Webster who has stated that one day they aim to use 100% Fairtrade gold. Garrard is the oldest jewellery house in the world, founded in 1722 with a history of producing jewellery for the Royal family. What could be better than fine jewellery with an impeccable background for a woman who deserves only the best?

Funny how, now that Oprah Winfrey isn't beaming straight into our homes everyday via her broadcast television show, we're all super obsessed with Oprah sightings. Case in point: all of the news sites, blogs and entertainment TV shows were abuzz yesterday with news of Oprah's visit to The Taj Mahal in Agra, India. Oprah was in town filming scenes for her new cable show Oprah's Next Chapter.

Evidently, it was Oprah's first visit to The Taj Mahal and she enjoyed the occasion like any first time tourist would: by taking a picture. Probably the same picture any of us would snap, given the same opportunity. But, of course, Oprah looked positively striking in her sunny, yet demure orange ensemble. The Pour La Victoire shoe label is probably best known for the best-selling Irina platform, which took the mid-priced shoe world by storm a couple of seasons ago. Splurge: Alexander Wang Emile Small Frenchbull Tote

What is it about handbags? I don't get the addiction. I don't need any more handbags. I mean, I have 10 or 12 (I try not to count). That's plenty. But... argh... I don't have this handbag. And I want it. It's super splurge-worthy.

The Alexander Wang Emile Small Frenchbull Tote is a heavily structured bag, despite what the "tote" name would imply. It's crafted from ultra luxe leather in this rich, deep burgandy-brown color. I think the color is what initially drew me in, but it's the details that kept me enthralled.

The slotted detail on the front is eye-catching because of its uniqueness, but the fact that it's all the same color and texture of leather keeps it simple. The metal feet are also quite unique -- I'm not sure that I've seen another bag that has this style of photo-corner metal feet. Finally, the dual handles give you some options for carrying -- more casual with the shoulder strap or more formal with the top handle.

Altogether, this best selling bag from the Saks Fifth Avenue online store is a classic choice that will remain relevant from season to season, making it worth the significant price tag.

What: 10 Crosby Derek Lam, the new, lower-priced line from contemporary American designer Derek Lam.

And, really, what's not to love about Derek Lam? The clothes are modern and feminine, but not overly so, and ultra luxurious. Oh, wait, there's that whole price thing...

Derek Lam clothing is expensive. A tunic will set you back about $600.00. Looking for a fun frock? That will cost you somewhere in the $5,000.00 to $7,000.00 range. Eyeing some of his creations in leather or fur? Get ready to spend upwards of $15-20k. Ouch.

That's what makes 10 Crosby Derek Lam so hot. It's the label's first journey into affordable clothing. The pieces have a modern femininity that echoes the main line, but at prices that hover around several hundred, rather than several thousand, dollars. Ok, so it's not exactly toss-on-and-go weekend wear prices, but it is a whole lot easier to swallow than the main line prices.

Where to wear it: The 10 Crosby Derek Lam debut collection has a surprising versatility to it. The pieces range from simple sweaters, dresses and tops that are completely perfect for the weekend, to smart blazers that could go to the office, to breezy dresses for special occasions. One of my favorite shopping moments is when you find a budget piece that is super unique and feels like something you saw on the runway, but isn't so close to a designer pick to look like a knock off. It's a serendipitous happening that doesn't come along all that often. This suit find creates that exact feeling.

The ASOS Boyfriend Blazer and Pencil Skirt with Fluro Trim is created from a lightweight, stretchy polyester/ viscose/ elastane mix -- which sounds a whole lot like a stretch jersey-type blend -- in heather grey with a bright lime trim or navy blue with bright orange trip. The cut of both the blazer and the skirt is a little more modern, but not completely crazy. It's fresh. And, get this, the ensemble is machine washable!

If you work in a more creative environment, this is the exact right way to rock a non-stuffy suit. Alternatively, each piece could easily be paired with other items for a more mix-and-match look. Blake Brody Makes Fashionable Pilates, Barre and Yoga Shoes

Let's face it, going barefoot in the yoga studio is kind of gross. But, there isn't much of an alternative. Traditional athletic shoes aren't flexible enough; socks are too slippery to maintain poses. It's about time someone came up with a solution.

I first read about Blake Brody shoes in the November issue of People StyleWatch magazine. This ingenious new shoe line is designed specifically for studio fitness classes where going barefoot is traditional -- pilates, yoga and barre classes, as well as other no-impact mat classes. The designs are made to fit snugly so they won't come off during your classes, and are both breathable and anti-microbial (yay!). These indoor-only shoes are also designed to help increase stability with a no-slip fabric sole.

The prices did strike me as a little high for a pilates / yoga / barre shoe, but when I consider the price of athletic shoes for other workout-type sports, it seems about right. The range is from $98.00 for a basic shoe, to just over $200 for a super stylized version.

5 Easy-to-Keep, High Impact Beauty Resolutions

'Tis the season for unrealistic resolutions that get broken within a couple weeks. Why not switch things up this year and adopt a resolution that's both easy to keep and has a high-impact outcome that will make your effort worthwhile? I've collected here my favorite past beauty resolutions, along with my tips for how to easily incorporate that resolution into your regular set of beauty habits.

1. Resolve to take off your makeup every night.
Your complexion will clear, your eyelashes will get healthier, and, in the long run, you'll ward off icky crow's feet. I suggest getting in the habit of taking off your makeup as soon as you get home. Not only does it create a habit that is easy to remember, it also allows your night creams and potions to have a longer time to work.

Personally, I hate the makeup remover/ cleanser/ toner dance. Such a time sink. Instead, I opt for an all-in-one makeup remover and cleanser. I've been stuck on Fresh Soy Face Cleanser for a couple years. It removes all of my makeup -- including mascara -- and feels like a spa treatment. For similar all-in-one cleaning, you can also try Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser and Philosophy Purity Made Simple. Even an all-in-one too much of a commitment? Try keeping makeup remover wipes in a caddy next to your bed, along with your night cream. Then, even if you make it into bed with makeup on, you can still do the right thing without getting up again.

2. Resolve to wear sunscreen every day.
You won't see immediate benefits, so you've got to stick with it. But, one day it will dawn on you that your effort has paid off. I've been diligently wearing sunscreen daily since my early twenties, and I have significantly less wrinkling, discoloration, freckling, and pores than the average woman my age. I totally credit the sunscreen.

I've found the easiest way to stick to this resolution is to switch your normal daily moisturizer to a moisturizer with sunscreen. It isn't like you're going to skip moisturizer, right? My current pick is Origins Brighter by Nature SPF 35. I'm also a huge fan of Clinique Superdefense SPF 25. You can find similar formulations from Olay and Neutrogena.

3. Resolve to wear eye cream.
Reasonable experts and beauty junkies disagree about whether a designated eye cream is really all that much better for keeping your eye area in shape than a regular treatment cream. That being said, I've found that a luxe, extra rich eye cream reminds me to treat my eye area just as I treat the rest of my face. Over the years, this practice has resulted in a well-moisturized eye area free of wrinkles and not particularly prone to bags. I'm a believer.

My current eye regimen is Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Eye Cream at night and Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream during the day. The Plantscription line has been proven to be about 80% as effective as prescription retinoids in repairing wrinkles and other visible signs of aging, but without the irritation. I love it. The GinZing has illuminating particles that work in conjunction with your undereye concealer to make you look awake, on top of its normal moisturizing and de-puffing properties. Other favorites over the years have included Benefit and Kinerase.

4. Resolve to exfoliate twice a week.
Every year that passes your skin takes just a little bit longer to get rid of that top layer of dead skin. That means that your skin becomes progressively more dull. By getting rid of that dull outer layer, your skin will instantly (seriously!) look brighter and clearer, and your pores will look smaller.

The gold standard of exfoliating is to use a manual exfoliant once a week and an enzyme-based exfoliant once a week, with 3-4 days between them. Returning gifts is such a drag many of us simply toss unwanted presents into a closet with the hopes of re-gifting them in the future. Sadly, waiting in line for returns and exchanges is a ritual many of us still honor. A recent Consumer Reports survey revealed one-in-five Americans plan on celebrating this post-holiday tradition. If you anticipate joining the lengthy queues, keep these seven tips in mind.

1. Don't Open What You Don't Want
Because the merchant can't resell opened items as new, you could be charged a hefty restocking fee just for cracking the lid. Amazon cranks up the charge to 50 percent for software, used books and DVDs; but Overstock takes the cake at 60 percent for open or used products.

2. Keep an Eye on the Date
Some stores have extended the number of days during which you can return holiday gifts, but most still hold to their standard policy. Remember the expiration date is from the time of purchase. In "Return rules at 8 big retailers" published last year, Consumer Reports found the average return period ranged from 30 to 180 days.

3. Resell Gift Cards
You don't need a receipt to exchange unwanted gift cards for cash. Visit GiftCardGranny.com, where you can resell gift cards to several companies for a percentage of the face value.

4. Keep the Gift Receipt
If some thoughtful friend or loved one was kind enough to include a gift receipt, this is your golden ticket for exchanges or returns. Keep in mind that, because such receipts don't indicate the purchase price, the store likely will only reimburse you at the going rate.

5. If You Don't Have a Receipt...
...bring an ID. More than 60 percent of retailers require a customer to show ID when returning an item without a receipt. This is because some stores limit how many times you can return purchases within a set time period.

6. Research the Return Policy
Retailers with websites almost always post their return policies. They may be difficult to find at first, so search under links for "Customer Service," "FAQ" or "Help." You'll find lots of small type, but it's worth reading through all the mouse scrawlings to know exactly what you'll face.

7. Avoid Shipping Charges
Many major retailers -- but not all -- will accept returns of online purchases at their brick-and-mortar stores. You might have to wait in line, but you'll save a bundle on shipping and the hassle of re-boxing a gift and mailing it out.

8 Tips for Managing Holiday Shopping Debt

Before the holidays there was endless advice about setting a budget and sticking to a shopping list. Those who ignored the wisdom shared by experts will be in for a shock when credit card and bank statements arrive in the mail.

According to a Consumer Reports poll, six percent of us are still paying off holiday debts from 2010. That means any new purchases racked up over the past holiday season will inflate those interest charges and make paying down the old and new balances more difficult and expensive.

If the bottom line on your bills is looking ugly, it's time to get a financial-management makeover. Consider these tips for balancing your holiday debt:

1. Go On a No-spend Diet
Stick those credit cards in the freezer, if you have to, but do what it takes to avoid impulse shopping sprees. Better yet, give them to a trusted friend or family member for safekeeping.

2. Cut Back on Luxuries
You've had your fun during the holidays; now it's time to get serious. Cut out the restaurants, nail salon and triple shot mocha latte until the bills are under control. Of course, too strict of an economic diet is as easy to break as a weight-loss regimen. So figure in an occasional, small splurge to keep you going.

3. Double and Triple Up
Multiply your credit card minimum payments two or three times to reduce the amount of interest you'll end up paying. Merely meeting the minimum means you'll never see bottom.

4. Get Couponing
Using coupons for necessary purchases not only saves you money, but the practice helps you make more educated purchasing decisions. You can find online and printable coupons for thousands of stores on CouponSherpa.com, or download their mobile app for instant access to coupons while you shop.

5. Set Small Goals
Don't try to do everything at once. If paying off credit cards in three months means going hungry, you're biting off more than you can chew. 8. Stick to Cash

Purple has not always sat well with me. I don't know why, but I tend to gear away from it all the time. I could count the clothes that I own with any hints of purple. I don't know if I associate it with Barney, but purple never grabbed me like other bright colors such as turquoise, yellow or emerald green. Although a jewel tone purple seems to always be the lesser in my book.

I dedicate this post to my best friend Stacy, who always had a deep love for the color purple. She sheds a new light on the color because she pairs it with wonderful combinations. Stacy's help, this months Allure magazine, and the limited purple pieces in my closet have proven to me that purple isn't necessarily the lesser of the jewel tones, but it is my least exposed. In my quest to open my mind to the seasons “it” jewel tone, I found some great finds and couldn't resist sharing.

I'm a big believer in kimono dresses because they're always appropriate to wear. Whether you are at an office dinner or a friend's birthday, you're always in style but conservative enough to be around your boss. Dorothy knew what she was doing with those sparkly red shoes. Now it's time to pick up your pair and find your way to a happening party. Although glitzy dresses and tops are still popular this time of year, this year's trend emphasizes more Cinderella-like shoes instead of sparkly dresses or skirts. Although I usually pass on sequin dresses and skirts because the fabric can be itchy, sequin shoes are non-itchy so I will definitely be sassin' around in some sparkly shoes until the end of January. Whether you think you can pull off the sparkly look is not the question. Instead, ask yourself whether you dare to put them on? Once you put them on you will have trouble taking them off.

I've found that Bloomingdale's has an incredible selection of sparkly shoes that are irresistible. My first find is Kate Spade's sling back shoes. Kate Spade must have loved the Wizard of Oz because these sling-back glittery, charming shoes are a girly pair of uber decked out blingy shoes. The bow paired with this sparkly pair gives it an extra girly flair. I think this pair is adorable and would really be the accent piece to that simple black dress. Give Dorothy a run on the yellow brick road in this golden, glitzy shoe.

So here are two tips, I would suggest before shopping for yourself this holiday so you aren't left unable to cross off all the names on your holiday shopping list:

Consider Versatility -- if you can take the item from day to night, it will give you more options for wear. Thus, maybe eliminating the need for buying two outfits -- work lunch and after 5 affair.
Shop Wisely -- all of the stores will have big sales but that doesn't mean you have to go for the high priced stores. I know in some way we rationalize the deal we get but if you can get the same 40% off on something that is $100 less, well...that makes sense.
