Stiletto Jungle Hits the Spring Accessories Preview

--By Pearl C.

Hi SJ Readers! I know I’ve been the MIA writer lately and I promise there is good reason for that. After landing a gig at a very cool new company and leaving my spacious West Hollywood apartment for a tiny little place in New York City, I have finally arrived. Helloooo NYC! And I’m off and running for you already.

I recently had the opportunity to check out some new jewelry and accessories at Succarra’s Spring Fling preview, where they hosted pieces by Kim Gilby, Suzanna Dai, Jessica Hicks, Joy O Designs, Sisco Family Jewels, Otrera, Jenny Bird, Audra & Delilah, Aurum Vitae for Tam Tran, I4D, IJA Designs, and Dean Davidson as well as shoes by Anyi Lu and swimwear by diNeila. Although I liked a lot of what I saw, there were some pieces and designers that stood out in my mind and one in particular that I’ll probably dream about tonight.

Anyi Lu is a designer from San Francisco who studied chemical engineering in school and has a passion for competitive ballroom dancing. A pretty good recipe for a shoe designer! She makes beautiful heels and flats, designed for comfort and flexibility but in high fashion styles. Check out this beautiful Carolyn flat in the Phoenix Pitone color. Great for walking around town and adding a bit of pop and sophistication to your work day. I also dug her Paige shoe in black/eggshell patent coloring because it gives the feel of the ballet flat with the style of the heel. Anyi Lu shoes are a hit at Nordstrom right now, and will also be carried in Bloomingdales soon.

Kim Gilby is a jewelry designer that caught my eye for her inventive use of materials. She uses feathers, chains, leather, stones, shells to create her unique pieces that showcase her vibrant personality and drawing influence from photography and music. She says “Some days I feel like being a girly girl, while others I feel like being a rock star.” I could definitely see this theme whispering to me as I perused her bracelets and earrings. Kim’s gold-filled peacock feather earrings are so cool and add a great slash of color to an understated wardrobe. The rocker chick in me was lusting for her Luzmery black diamond cut chain necklace and Angelina silver Swarovski ring in black/red shades while the glam girl in me was digging her Katie metal mesh scarf (personally I’d go for the purple iridescent).

Dean Davidson was inspired to create jewelry during a trip to Africa where he found hand crafted items in Cape Town and became motivated to construct his own pieces. I loved the brushed metal look to his jewelry, particularly the cuff bracelets. The marquise rings were beautiful as well, adding a little bling to the brushed metal look (loved the smoky quartz!). This is definitely a designer to keep on your radar.

Joy O Designs is hardly a secret amongst celeb circles. Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria, Anne Hathaway have been pictured wearing Joy Opfer’s whimsical designs. Her super thin bracelets and earrings were on my wish list as they were lightweight and versatile. The hammered angled bangles were so cool, and come in a set of 3 or 5 of mixed metals. I also really liked the simple thin cuffs, pictured on Cameron Diaz. And I must shout out her handmade hammered hoops that come in an insane variety of shapes and sizes.

Toronto-based Jenny Bird’s jewelry and purses stole my heart and kept luring me back to her table. Carmen Electra, Kelly Rowland, Whitney Port, Taylor Momsen and Rachel Ray seem to agree with me, as they also dig Bird’s designs. I was coveting her black studded pouchettes which were small and edgy enough for a late night out on the town. The piece that will be haunting me tonight is the leather and chain lariat, be still my heart. The lariat is from Bird’s aptly named Electric Lady line, and it’s several long chains pulled together with strips of leather; the ultimate concert accessory. I’m not sure I’d ever take it off.

Hope you guys enjoy this accessories preview as much as I did, and that you find something you fall a little in love with (or maybe a LOT).

Top 10 Colors for Spring 2010 Announced #NYFW

--By Jules Newmark

It's official ladies, the colors are out... for Spring 2010. Over here on the West Coast, it's nowhere near time to switch over to the fall wardrobe with temperatures still in the 80s, but of course, there's always looking ahead!

Every season there is an analysis put out of the top Pantone colors that were chosen by designers for their new collections. “The vibrancy of the top five colors [for women] — versus the neutrals we see toward the bottom of the ranking — show that designers are choosing optimism for the season,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, which disclosed the top 10 colors chosen by New York designers in the Pantone Fashion Color Report Spring 2010.

Pantone Fashion Color Report Spring 2010

With the recession still in effect, designers are still hunting for ways to make customers feel expensive for lower prices. The colors for next Spring definitely will add to wardrobe as we choose key pieces to spruce up our trendiness. What are the colors you ask? Well, let's start with the top color, Violet... purple is a power color after all. More colors going down the list of the percentage of designers who used the colors the most in their new collections are: Aurora (yellow), Turquoise, Fusion Coral, Tomato Puree, Tuscany, through Pink Champagne and Eucalyptus.

The bright colors will definitely be show stopping pieces I'm sure... I'm seeing myself in a turquoise fitted suit now... back to reality - head to WWD.com now to check out the Pantone colors for women and of course, see the menswear choices as well so you can be coordinated with your lover for Spring... nothing beats a picnic in style!

Spring Fashion: Seriously Sexy Maxi Dresses

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Victoria's Secret Cotton jersey maxi dress
Victoria's Secret Maxi Dress

$69.00
Available at: victoriassecret.com

It’s finally warm enough for the maxi dress. Every year at this time it gets hard to fight the urge and avoid the maxi dress. The long, air circulating dress is sexy, sassy and cool. It never looks like you are trying too hard when wearing the maxi. Full of spunk and boldness, the maxi dress is perfect with some nice sandals and great big earrings. The bohemian vibe mixed with an elegant look is wonderful-- love it!

I get such positive imagery when I look at someone wearing the maxi dress and I always get compliments when I’m wearing mine. If you get a maxi dress dirty while walking on the beach, it’s no problem, you brush off the sand and continue on with the day. That’s the attitude the maxi dress comes with, a sort of carelessness, yet sophisticated in its own mysterious way. Not to get too philosophical over it, but hey, some things bring it out in me… the maxi dress being one of them!

Love Tease Halter Maxi Dress
Love Tease Halter Dress

$69.00
Available at: macys.com

Moving on to maxi dresses for purchase so you can feel as poetic as me, here we go. Victoria Secret is the definition of sexy, so where better to go to find a seriously sexy maxi dress. The tough part is that every dress on those models looks exceptionally gorgeous. It’s tough not to want them all when they’re on those beautiful models. I really like this orange-ish Cotton Jersey Maxi Dress. It’s an adjustable halter dress with a tie waist and a large keyhole-- wow, it’s hot! The color and the easy going style give it an ultimate purchase-worthy look.

For a maxi that you can transform for an incredible night time formal outing try this stunning Love Tease Halter Maxi Dress from Macy’s. It’s all black with a silver medallion ornament with rhinestones below the chest. The steep v-neckline and the simplicity of the dress give it a fancy look. This dress can be transformed from daytime summer fun to evening glamour by slipping on some one inch open-toed heels-- anything taller will take away from its sophistication.

A different floral looking dress is all it takes to fit in perfectly for the summer and Bloomingdales has that covered. The sweat Sweet Pea Deep V-Neck Maxi Dress with sheer floral print all over is awesome. The three-quarter sleeves with elastic cuffs give it an edge over other maxi dresses. Because of the shape and print of the dress the v-neckline looks extra steep. This would look great on a smaller breasted woman, because they can pull it off with class! There is a small keyhole underneath the very steep v-neck, for an extra spice, just in case the v-neck didn’t do it enough justice!

Spring Fashion: Stylish Striped Dresses

--By Kim Moshtaghi

BCBGMAXAZRIA Women's Striped Crepe Dress
BCBGMAXAZRIA Crepe Dress

$318.00
Available at: bloomingdales.com
icon

Stripes aren’t just on the American flag, but all over the fashion scene as well. With all different colors and dress styles, stripes are always sure to make you look taller and thinner if vertical, or give a curvier when wearing horizontal. With great summer styles that incorporate the striped pattern, there isn’t a striped dress that I don’t like.

Keep your body type in mind when purchasing striped dresses-- if you are short and have a thicker build you may want to stay away from light colored horizontal striped dresses. But, on the other hand, if you need the extra illusion of weight to give you a more curvaceous body, horizontal stripes may be your answer. I have found a striped dress to flatter every body type. Embrace the stripes; it’s simplicity at its best!

Speaking of simplicity, I found a classy dress by BCBGMAXAZRIA that will floor you. It’s white with thick black stripes. This Striped Crepe Dress will be flattering on any body shape and it will give the illusion that you are thinner and taller, now who doesn’t need that? With the black and white color combination you not only look great, but classy and you can wear any color shoes and accessories as long as you tie it in.

Mike & Chris Thurman Asymmetrical Striped Silk Dress in Bone/Cinder
Mike & Chris Thurman Silk Dress

$275.00
Available at: revolveclothing.com

For a more laid back boho look, Mike and Chris have a great casual striped dress. It’s a bone and cinder color combination, a very earthy and cool look. This Thurman Asymmetrical Striped Silk Dress is more of a daytime dress that you can wear while you’re shopping and running errands. It’s not too short, which makes it appropriate and there are side pockets, convenient for a cell phone or keys. I love the off-the-shoulder part of the dress and the thin sexy strap holding the other half of the dress. The thick horizontal stripes give the body a wider appearance, and this dress is casual and should be worn baggier. So, once again know thyself!

My last pick is a dress by Nine West. I love this Cap-Sleeve Striped Dress, its so flirty feminine. I think this would look lovely on all body types. It’s so girly and sexy at the same time. The accentuated bust with the v-neckline and banded empire waist with ruching is adorable. This dress is great for the ladies who are self conscious about their booties, because it does a great job covering it! The light canary yellow stripes with white give it a splash of summer. What do you know… just in time!

Spring Fashion: Grown Up Flip-Flop Sandals

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Mystique Cabochons Gold Turquoise Sandals
Mystique Turquoise Sandals

$155.00
Available at: sandalworld.com

I decided that I need to shop for new sandals after seeing my torn, dirty ones. It’s always a justifiable purchase when you know your going to wear them till the soles are coming apart. Sandals keep your toes from suffocating in the summer, but comfort is what makes sandals ultra enticing. I typically prefer leather sandals, because they wear better and they soften over time. There are many different types of sandals to choose from, so I have picked a classy goddess-like pair, a casual pair and beachy ones.

Sandals aren’t just for the rugged young chicks with cut-off denim shorts anymore. Now they are for all types of women from all walks of life. Designers have gotten creative and spiced it up. They have turned a casual comfortable look to a fun and elegant one. Although there are still $5 flip flops that are wonderful to have around, now there are more options for those who choose.

SWINDLEE BLACK PATENT
Steve Madden Swindlee Sandals

$59.95
Available at: stevemadden.com

The first sophisticated sandals are made by Mystique-- a very well known brand that has an unbelievable number of gorgeous options when it comes to sandals. The pair that I warmed up to, the Mystique Cabochons Gold Turquoise Sandal, is a sun goddess’s dream. The sandals are gold with turquoise, and the turquoise stones are surrounded by rhinestones. The bold stones look wonderful against the gold metallic straps. The color contrast creates a stunning look. These sandals will turn a lot of heads, so make sure your pedicure is up to date!

For my shy ladies who prefer to walk around in less loud and bling-y sandals, I found a great subtle pair. Steve Madden’s Swindlee Sandals are fun and hip. They’re simple, and by that I mean they are black patent leather with round gold hardware on the top strap. That’s it! Very fashion driven, but can be worn anywhere with everything. These shoes will get more and more comfortable over time, and they’ll be the first sandals you wear every time you need to run out and do some quick grocery shopping.

Next up: perfect for the beach girl simple but, still fashionable sandals. These Coach Devlynn Sandals look so refreshing. The crisp white and the fun colorful Coach logo add some character to them. I never see enough white sandals; I think we as fashion savvy women should change that!

The three sandals I showcased will get you through all of your summer events-- from the beach, to lunch, and maybe even a date.

Spring Fashion: Chic Trench Coats

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Tahari Keri Trench Coat
Tahari "Keri" Trench Coat

$148.00
Available at: nordstrom.com icon

Trench coats are absolutely style altering, in an amazing direction. Although spring trench coats are lighter in fabric, they are also much bolder in color-- with an exuberant amount of classic femininity. Watching Audrey Hepburn exude such class wearing her trench coat in Breakfast at Tiffany’s makes me want to purchase one trench coat after another.

I love that you can wear a trench with some sexy heels and next to nothing underneath-- as long as you don’t take it off! It’s nice to be able to wear a trench as a dress, and look 100% put together! This season, its all about vivid fun colors that will get you noticed and brighten your day. Get your spring trench coats light material, and wear them for years to come. It wasn’t difficult to find great trench coats, but it was hard to narrow down my selection to three purchase-worthy trench coats.

I found a great yellow trench at Nordstrom by Tahari. The color is light yellow-- very feminine and not eye-staining. The Tahari 'Keri' Trench Coat has a pleated collar and it’s water resistant for those of you ladies who still need to worry about that in the spring. The cinched waist with a tie belt gives it its shape, and the pleated cuffs give it some flare.

Laundry by Shelli Segal oxford double breasted trenchcoat
Laundry by Shelli Segal Trench Coat

$203.00
Available at: bloomingdales.com icon

Next up: a trench by Laundry that is a very modern and sophisticated! The Laundry by Shelli Segal Oxford Double Breasted Trenchcoat is stunning, especially because it’s black with white trim. The color and trim give it an edgy, high priced look. The length is very flattering and not too long at above the knees. The thick tie belt accentuates the waist even more than the usual trench. The wide belt loops into a buckle, giving it a more polished finish. The pearlized buttons are a minor detail that contributes to the gorgeous look. I adore everything about this trench, the color, the style, and the cut! It’s a winner!

How can one not find a jacket at Banana Republic? It’s nearly impossible-- they always have trench coats and other impressive wearable jackets. Speaking of which, their BR Monogram Double-Breasted Shiny Trench is very fun! The whitish-silver trench has a metallic sheen, perfect for a night out in town or happy hour. The color matches almost everything and gives the typical classic trench coat a wild side.

Ladies, I’ve given you great options, now is the time to wear it, love it and own it.

Spring Fashion: Sweet Peasant Tops

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Rampage Drop-Waist Peasant Top
Rampage Peasant Top

$33.00 (was $44-- save 25%!)
Available at: macys.com

There is something about peasant tops that exudes sexiness. I think the roomy silhouette of peasant tops helps create a breezy comfort zone for women, while looking mysteriously flirty. Peasant tops draw a lot of attention with their soft necklines, showing off the sexy collarbone. Peasant tops are bohemian like tops that define comfort while being adorable. Pair up a peasant top with some fitted jeans, a long flowing skirt, or some cute shorts and wedge shoes. Keeping it simple will give off the fun and flirty look.

The first peasant top I found is a racy one from Rampage. This Rampage Drop-Waist Peasant Top would look stunning with leggings because it’s a loose, long fitting peasant top. Leggings with some chunky heels and it will knock them dead. The lace definitely contributes to the edgy look, along with the scooped neckline. The little details and the slightly cinched waistline give the top two thumbs up from me!

This next peasant top is a bit more detailed than the previous. This Arden B. Embroidered Chiffon Peasant Top has white floral embroidery on black, which really makes it pop. The top part of the shirt it has a mysterious keyhole tie on the front. The fit is more fun, and less shapely. It would look great with some cute shorts and thick belt. It’s comfortable and airy-- great for sticky summer days. Both the color and style are easy to work with to diversify your look every time. It would look great with some white denim and a thick bright belt, or it can be worn simple without any accessory add-ons. But, the color combination does give a lot of room for creativity.

RXB Embroidered Scoop-Neck Peasant Top
RXB Peasant Top

$33.60 (was $48-- save 30%!)
Available at: macys.com

Lastly, my favorite is a light, soft yellow peasant top that’s beautiful! I love everything about this feminine RXB Embroidered Scoop-Neck Peasant Top! The color is easy on the eyes, but adds that girly playful look. With a slight summer glow, it will look even better. This particular top is also capable of being transformed by adding a belt or bright bold spring accessories. The short lantern sleeves and the elastic cuffs are defined with cute trim. The shirt is cotton, so it’s very easy to wash-- just be careful when drying. Cotton is always a great durable comfortable material during the warmer months.

What is so great about peasant tops is that it’s a fashion trend that is 100% comfortable, which isn’t always the case. But, when it comes to these tops, you will be looking fashionable while doing everyday activities in charm and style.

New & Hot: Thakoon Shibari Shift Dress

Thakoon Shibari Shift Dress
Thakoon Shibari Dress

$1495.00
Free Shipping
Available at: shopbop.com

From the minute I saw the runway version of this dress in the Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear shows, I've been truly, madly, deeply in love with it. The Thakoon Shibari Dress echoes one of the most instantly recognizable styles from the shows, which was held up by nearly every major fashion magazine as the poster child for the pseudo-bondage trend. I've never considered paying $1500 for an everyday dress, but I'm so tempted by this frock that I may have to freeze my credit cards Becky Bloomwood style to keep myself from giving in. The fact that this dress is now only a few mouse clicks away is almost too much to bear.

The irresistible nature of this Thakoon dress starts with its artfully crinkled crepe shell and 100% silk lining. The contrast mesh banding adds dimension and the two-way zipper in back is amazing, both in the bold detailing and the way it anchors the criss-crossing bands. I find the whole package mesmerizing. Love it.

Spring Fashion: Black and White

--By Kim Moshtaghi

BCX Black-and-White Dress
BCX Black and White Dress

$51.75 (was $69-- save 25%!)
Available at: macys.com

Black and white fashions have always been around and always will be. Black and white will always remind many of us of timeless icons like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. I have covered this color combination before and will continue to do so because these colors are an amazing duo. Black and white are polar opposites on the color scale, which combined help create a soothing balance. These colors exude class and sophistication, go well with everything and allow you to mix and match with bright accessories. Having colors that can be experimented with creates endless opportunities when it comes to choosing what to wear.

My first black and white item is the BCX Black-and-White Dress from Macy’s. It is a girly dress that is equally perfect for hitting the dance floor and attending a networking luncheon. It’s flirty and fun in every way. The tank top part is sexy while the bottom half of the dress flares out and helps balance the sexiness with a softer feminine look. The great part is that it looks like a two piece-- top and bottom. The bow detail on the waist gives it an extra feminine attitude. I could see myself dancing in it, enjoying the summer laughter or being serious in it while I feel confident and comfortable. Women with a bigger chest area should be aware that the top part of this dress is accentuated while the bottom half hides the hip and thigh area. This will look the best on someone with a J-Lo body type.

14K White Gold Black Diamond-Accented Round Cultured Pearls Ring
White Gold Black Diamond Pearl Ring

$195.49 - $233.74
(was $229.99 - $274.99-- save 15%!)
Available at: target.com

Next up is an amazing cascading ruffle Waterfall Top from Nanette Lepore. This top is absolutely stunning! I love this pure silk top with its delicate shape and amazing style. The top would look amazing with tight fitting jeans, or a nice slim fitting pencil skirt. As delicate as this top is, it allows you to pair it with bolder bottoms without looking overbearing.

My third pick is a ring-- why wait for a man to purchase it for you, when you can do it all on your own? I love this 14K White Gold Black Diamond and Pearl Ring. There are 4 cultured pearls on this ring surrounded by black diamonds, really helping the pearls stand out. This ring is fabulous and something you will never want to disown. Pearls will always be a staple in fashion, and diamonds will continue to be a women’s best friend! Don’t snooze, especially while it’s on a temporary price cut.

Spring Fashion Fling: 5 Trends to Try

sponsored by:
Fling Chocolate

There are so many distinctive trends for Spring that it's hard to know where to start when it comes to building an updated Spring wardrobe. It's also a little confusing, given that some trends seem to cancel one another out. Do you go pastel or super bright? Ruffles or utilitarian chic? Hobo or structured bag? What's a haute girl about town to do?

As we head into the Spring season everyone is still trying to guess which of forecasted trends will show actual staying power. Although they all sound like fun, only a handful of Spring's standout styles are really worth your hard earned dollars. These chic styles are supremely wearable, but suitably glamorous, and will see you through Spring and into Summer with style. It's time for a spring fashion fling!

Florals
Boden Riviera Dress

Floral prints are everywhere for spring. This is definitely one of the most pervasive spring trends, but luckily it is also one of the most wearable. From super girly-girl florals, to more artistic takes on flowers, to florals with almost tomboy appeal, you can find a floral for any taste. This simple green floral Riviera Dress from Boden is tops on my list. It's chic and grown up, with a super flattering cut.

Given the dismal economic times, it would seem that there's no accounting for the popularity of pricey exotic skins. But, a second thought reveals exotic skins as a smart move. When times are tough, it makes perfect sense to invest in pieces that will stand the test of time. Exotic skins are never out of style. Whether you opt for luxe natural python-- like these luscious Christian Louboutin Python Pumps-- or an affordable little faux accessory, or something in between, exotic skin is a trend that's for real.

Elizabeth and James Kingstone Trousers
Elizabeth and James "Kingstone" Trousers

$275.00
Available at: shopbop.com

After seasons and seasons of making sure that your trousers fell perfectly over the heel of your shoe, it does feel kind of odd to be flaunting a pant leg that hits at the ankle. But, after you get used to the silhouette, the cropped trouser is definitely one of the most enjoyable trends of the spring. The new shape-- fuller through the thigh, tapered at the ankle-- is a hard shape to embrace, but it creates a striking silhouette and shows off your shoes like nothing else. These luxe cropped trousers from Mary-Kate and Ashley's Elizabeth and James line are perfect for more casual occasions. For a work appropriate version, check out the new cropped trousers from Marc by Marc Jacobs or Paige Black Label.

Bright colors might be the most polarizing of all spring trends-- either people love the super brights, or they stay far away. I used to be in the far away camp, until I was gifted a bright pumpkin colored cashmere cardigan. I had no idea what I was missing! Bright color lifts your mood and draws the compliments. Here's a hint for doing it right: don't ignore your skin tone. Not all brights are created equal and not all brights will look good on all people. Take the time to try on a few shades before committing to a purchase.

$68.00 (was $98-- save 31%!)
After Coupon: $54.40
Available at: tobi.com

While browsing for new deals I ran across this fun little Quicksilver Bordeaux Jacket and totally fell in love. The first weeks of Spring are never as warm as we'd like, necessitating a jacket or two to keep us toasty. This unbleached cotton jacket is just right for pairing with your Spring ensembles.

Besides the slim shape and snappy 3/4 length sleeves, there are delightful little details that give this jacket a personality without being overwhelming. Check out the rose gold exposed zipper, the asymmetrical closure and the collar-less neckline. This slightly rugged jacket will "dirty up" Spring's sometimes overly feminine floral dresses, or add a modern edge to those retro fit jeans you already have in your closet.

Already on sale for $68, you can score this perfect spring jacket for a mere $54.40 through April 1 by using the Coupon Code 20TREAT, which scores you an extra 20% off all Sale items at Tobi.com. New & Hot: Frye "Vanessa Softie" Sandal

Frye Vanessa Softie Sandals
Frye "Vanessa" Sandals

$158.00
Available at: shopbop.com

I hate flats. I only wear them when the situation absolutely requires it. Day-long jaunts through the City. Driving for more than an hour. Airplane rides of more than three hours. I have my list of flats-appropriate situations down to a science. But, I may make an exception for these adorably chic Frye "Vanessa Softie" Sandals.

These brand new ankle-strap flat sandals are available in five summery colors, including the Seafoam blue pictured here. The distressed pebbled leather looks just as squishy soft as the name implies-- perfect for the aforementioned City walks-- and the silhouette is more French girl chic than orthopedic flats. Perfect.

Spring Fashion: Girly Glam Polka Dots

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Ella Moss Dita Dot Dress
Ella Moss "Dita" Dot Dress

$184.00
Available at: nordstrom.com

Inspired by an unbelievably adorable 4-year-old, I feel an urgent need to write about polka dots. Seeing this 4- year-old opened my eyes to the fun, bold trend of polka dots. Her outfit was a perfect polka dotted cardigan paired with dark jeans and stylish sneakers. When I see a 4-year-old dressing this impressive, I think us ladies should take notes.

The trend that started ages ago is still circulating and can be worn at all ages. I found some great polka dot attire at Nordstrom.com. I picked some good finds that can be worn year round (well, except one), which fits my fashion picking motto. Although I was motivated to write about polka dots by observing a 4-year-old, I don’t think it’s a style that is only little girl appropriate.

This first dress by Ella Moss is a flirty, glamorous red and white polka dot dress that leaves nothing else to be desired. The frilly ruffles around the low v-neckline give the Ella Moss 'Dita' Dot Dress sexiness, without being too provocative. The color combination is beautiful and charming-- fitting for the warmer months coming up-- and the empire waist gives it an easy-going look that will be very comfortable and easy to maneuver in. If red isn’t your cup of tea, there is also a darker color combination in this style.

Tahari by Arthur S. Levine Chiffon & Stretch Satin Dress
Tahari Chiffon & Satin Dress

$63.90 (was $128-- save 50%!)
Available at: nordstrom.com
icon

This Tahari Chiffon & Stretch Satin Dress is similar to a couple ‘50s inspired dresses I have highlighted in the past, but the polka dots differentiate it. The chiffon top part of the dress almost makes it look like its two separate pieces, top and bottom. The dress is high-waisted, and extremely flattering. The pencil skirt attached to the chiffon is work appropriate and easy to transition from work to happy hour.

Although some of you may feel dipping in the water is far from near, think again. My next stand out item is a cute Juicy Couture Polka Dot Bikini Bottom. The black and white polka dot combination is always a classic look, and the ruffles on the waist give it extra chic look. The beaded front helps give it an extra unique detail, but still keeps it simple. With its classic colors, these bottoms will go well with your bikini top collection.

I think the polka dot and the ruffle trend are chic, yet playful and wearable-- reminding us that we were all little girls at one point. Some fashion styles give a memorable glimpse of those worry-less, fun loving days.

New & Hot: Velvet "Martha" Jersey Dress

Velvet Martha Jersey Dress
Velvet "Martha" Dress

$106.00

Available at: shopbop.com

Sometimes you just need a pretty new dress. That's exactly what this new "Martha" Jersey Dress from Velvet offers. It's just a really pretty daytime dress.

The color is scrumptious, the fit is flattering, and the jersey fabric is one of the softest fabrics you can wrap around yourself. I'm particularly fond of the ruched empire bodice. The fit is both slimming and bust-enhancing at the same time. Really, ladies, can you ask for anything more? The length is a tad short for the over-25 set, but all fears of looking tarty can be put to rest by pairing this adorable frock with spring's super hot flat sandals. A natural brownish-beige would be lovely, but I'd go for metallic silver for a little kick. Voila! A perfectly pretty dress for a perfect spring day. Now if the weather would only cooperate...

Spring Fashion: Tassel Detail Accessories

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Couture Couture by Juicy Couture Concentric Circles Cuff Bracelet
Couture Couture Circles Cuff Bracelet

$228.00
Available at: nordstrom.com

Tassels aren’t just for graduation, they’re a fun twist of dangling joy on fashion accessories. Tassels add spunk to anything they dangle from-- whether it is a shirt, purse, or a bracelet-- recreating an ordinary simple look. This isn’t the first season we have seen tassels, but I am noticing that they are more prevalent on accessories this time around.

Randomly enough, I have a couple jackets that have ties with tassels on the end, and I love how the tassels transform my jackets into a more fashionable item. Tassels on clothing can be an odd thing, but on accessories it seems just right! So, I have found a few accessories with dangling tassels that will make your head spin.

My first tassel item is a Couture Couture by Juicy Couture bracelet. This Concentric Circles Cuff Bracelet is gorgeous and perfect for women who love yellow gold. It is a gold plated cuff bracelet with hammered gold tone links, which give it an edgy sassy look. A vibrant red tassel hangs from the bracelet, giving it a unique and wearable style. The bracelet is just right with its gold coloring and bright bold tassel. It’s an easy slide pin/magnetic closure that prevents this bracelet from detaching itself from your wrist.

Basket Weave Handbag in Chocolate
Basket Weave Handbag

$39.00
Available at: lulus.com

My second featured item is the Tory Burch “Reese” Ballet Flats. I have featured a version of this shoe without the tassels before, and I absolutely love them with the tassels. It’s the opposite of mens nautical boat shoes. These shoes are great in the Tulip pink-- not too bright, nor too faded. They would go with more colors than one could imagine, both earth tones and bright colors such as turquoise. Comfortable flat shoes that are this adorable are a must have, especially with the gold tone hardware and the flashy look they give off!

Lastly, I found the cutest handbag at Lulus.com. This Basket Weave chocolate handbag is convenient and absolutely lovely. With a soft look and crushed faux leather, this bag has enough room for major attitude and some. The bag is very spacious, so it’s a great break from the much seen clutch. All of its zippers have tassels on the end, without looking cluttered or tacky. The chocolate brown is nice because it compliments everything and looks very sophisticated. The bag comes with an extra adjustable strap for those who like to wear it long over the shoulder. Otherwise, you can carry it as a tote. The price is $39-- I wouldn’t snooze!

New & Hot: Gap Floral Notched Collar Shirt

Women: Floral notched collar shirt - creamy yellow floral
Floral Notched Collar Shirt

$48.00
Available at: gap.com

I don't know what has come over me. I have spent years hating floral patterns. But, suddenly, I can't get enough. Somehow florals look different this season-- less overtly feminine and more chic. Perhaps the strong floral print trend for Spring 2009 has inspired a little more creativity in the floral department. Whatever the reason, I hope it sticks around.

My latest can't-live-without floral find is this super affordable Floral Notched Collar Shirt from Gap. The flowers feel a little more artistic to me, which keeps the overall look from vibing too sweet, while the gauzy fabric and roll-up sleeves make for a slouchy silhouette. I'd pair this top with wide leg jeans and espadrille wedges for a retro spring ensemble.

Spring Fashion: Floral Explosion

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Vince Floral Print Silk Dress
Vince Floral Print Dress

$375.00
Available at: nordstrom.com
icon

There is a major floral explosion going on in fashion. Not necessarily splatter, but all kinds of petals are fair game. I was just watching the old Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie and the cheerleader girls were all wearing floral. Although floral has come a long way since its tacky days, such as in Buffy, it still can be over powering if paired with too many accessories or with too many colors. Yes, I know I said there are "no rules" this season… but I still have some. I suggest wearing a floral top with plain slacks or jeans, just to break up the floral a bit. This is especially true if you are a curvy woman. Some flowery patterns are just too girly for me, but floral prints are cheerful and upbeat. I want to expose flowery designs that are less scattered and girly, and highlight fashionable flowery designs that are sophisticated and wearable for all body types.

My first snazzy discovery, the Vince Floral Print Silk Dress, is stunning. I love that it is straight cut, simple and elegant. Who said bright colors equals floral fashion? Not always. The fact that this dress is black and white makes it more timeless and easy to accessorize. I usually don’t like balloon-sleeve dresses, but the unusual cut gives this dress a nice touch.

Julie Haus Andora Floral Printed Dress
Julie Haus "Andora" Dress

$156.00 (was $195-- save 20%!)
Available at: bloomingdales.com
icon

The Julie Haus Andora Floral Printed Dress… I have to start off by saying I want this dress. I think it’s spectacular. It reminds me of the almost-canceled show Mad Men. The colors are so delicate and feminine. The pastel background with the bold vibrant flowers gives this dress a harmonious blend; the high scoop neckline makes it sophisticated and appropriate to wear at all occasions. This is a purchase work making.

Lastly, I love this Barrymore Blouse. This fun and hip floral pattern top is bursting with small vivid flowers everywhere. This top is very fashionable, fitting into this season’s ruffle and floral categories. The beige background gives the top a tasteful look, without looking tacky. The elasticized ruffle cuff trim and billowy sleeves are a classic touch to this trendy top. This top would look great with fitted jeans or leggings. The loose fit gives a flirty fun look that gives off an instant sex appeal, and who wouldn’t want that? The best part is that this top doesn’t and will never overpower the look if paired with a solid. It’s almost bohemian as well, while accentuating the waistline slightly. If you choose to leave the waist loose, you may by detaching the tie hidden in the cinched waistline.

With a Valentine’s Day behind us, don’t let the positive loving vibe be gone-- blossom! You can start by growth of floral apparel in your closet.

Spring Fashion: Ruffle Mania!

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Women: Ruffle wrap dress - Reddish orange
Ruffle Wrap Dress

$59.99 (was $130-- save 54%!)
Available at: bananarepublic.com

Ruffles isn’t just a potato chip brand anymore—ruffles mean fashion. Ruffles are all over New York Fashion Week 2009, but this trend hasn’t left since fall 2008. So, before you go putting away last season’s stuff-- think again. The ruffle trend is here to stay in a more powerful flirtatious way. This trend, which is simply made by cinched material, is adding a lot of spunk to clothing and accessories. I have always liked this reoccurring trend because of how easily it transforms a white crisp shirt to a powerful, fashionable shirt with attitude. With variations ranging from small to big ruffles, there is a ruffle piece for everybody! I have found this season’s best ruffle pieces to share with you.

Although, having seen some sneak peeks of what’s to come, I can say that there are many fashion trends reoccurring for spring, but right now is really all about the 3 B’s: Bigger, Bolder and Brighter. Ruffles have gotten bolder and less symmetrical just following the natural fashion trend. Remember, this season there is no rules! I have noticed less predictability in shapes, lines, cuts and accessories. But, one thing is for sure, you can’t flaunt this season’s clothing with a meek attitude. There is nothing shy about spring 2009, so gear up for a confidence boost and some sexy fun clothes. Be careful not to be overwhelmed by this season’s boldness. Choose clothing that you can define, letting your inner sassy side gleam, instead of allowing the outfit to drown you, making you look like a Hollywood wannabe. But, I don’t doubt Stiletto Jungle readers for a second. Gear up ladies, here we go…

Bebe Exotic Leather Ruffled Clutch
Exotic Ruffle Leather Clutch

$159.00
Available at: bebe.com

The first ruffle fashion sensation is from Banana Republic. This Ruffle Wrap Dress has got it all: a vibrant color and small amount of ruffles around the collar. This Reddish-Orange dress is a wrap dress with full inspiration from the spring 2009 runways. The mostly silk dress is flirtatious, and allows for movement for any occasion. This dress is geared towards people who are embracing the ruffle trend… or not so much. The dress is bright, but the ruffles are limited to around the collar and are conservative. I would say this is a great dress for many occasions. It’s charming, feminine and comes equipped with a personal cloud of vibrant confidence when wearing it. Miracles are always nice to purchase because they’re so hard to find.

My next ruffle mania pick is a sexy alligator print leather clutch. This Exotic Leather Ruffled Clutch is adorable-- it’s not huge and it’s not overkill! This exotic clutch is roomy enough for the female essentials and it has wide metal hinges, so you can really see what you’ve got in there, making it much more accessible. The soft cascading ruffles give the clutch an extra luxurious shine. This alligator ruffle clutch is very chic and will definitely be an accessory you can use to spice up an outfit, or to make an outfit your own. You make the rules-- just make sure you feel great!

Leifsdottir Siren Ruffle Dress
Leifsdottir "Siren" Dress

$248.00
Available at: nordstrom.com
icon

This next ruffle dress is the most flirtatious feminine on the list. The colors on this Leifsdottir 'Siren' Ruffle Dress traditionally represent spring, but they are less bold than the super brights we expect for spring 2009. This dress is great for someone who doesn’t like to wear the brighter colors, and is perfect for dancing the night away. It is a lightweight dress with cascading ruffles around the neck and down the center of the bodice. The waist is cinched with a light blue ribbon. It’s very polished looking and playful at the same time-- love it!

Everyone knows I’m a big fan of Ralph Lauren, so this gorgeous, sophisticated dress shouldn’t be a big surprise. The Lauren by Ralph Lauren “Josue” Ruffle Front Silk Dress is stunning. The ruffles cascade down the trim of the deep-v neckline and work their way down to the front of this shimmering dress. Beware: very hot!

There are so many fun ruffle finds, it’s hard to decide! This Shoshanna Circle Eyelet Dress is absolutely adorable. It’s very girly and fun. This dress is the most casual one I’ve picked. This Eyelet dress is great with the acid yellow color and golden buttons dotting the ruffled placket. It’s also got an inset waist and slim pleated skirt. This dress is not for everyone, but it is a great find for someone who can handle the style, cut and the color.
