I love the concept of charm bracelets! Charm bracelets represent your history and that is why I have a couple of them. I have one from my earlier days, and one that I wear on my grown-up wrists. I think charm bracelets can instantly spark a pleasant memory. I have had my charms for years, and I finally updated my charm bracelet, making me feel very accomplished. I kept a little box over the years with a bunch of charms my family and friends gave me, and I finally added them to my charm bracelet.

I love the combination of childhood charms with my adult ones. I have an evil eye, a girly heart, a spoiled brat sign and many more fun charms. My cheesiest and funniest one is the spoiled brat charm that my uncle gave me at the age of twelve. He was my favorite uncle and no matter what he did, he would take me along to accompany him as his little date to keep me feeling spoiled. Every time I look at this charm I think about the business trips and fun events he took me on. The random unique charms are the best because I can explain and associate the charms with a specific time in my life. Not everyone has a collection of charms, but I urge you start and buy ones that provoke a memory. Not only are they great to buy for yourself, but they are also a great item to gift!

The best thing to do is get charms along the way, on a trip, or at a turning point in your life. But, if you want to jump start your collection, there are a few websites that can get you started and many fun charms that you can add to your existing charm bracelet or use to help you start a new charm bracelet. There are a lot of brands that carry charm bracelets that are already pre-charmed and others that have their own collection of charms to add from, such as Juicy Couture. As cute as these bracelets are, they are also very limited and trendy. I recommend getting a real gold one or a silver charm bracelet for longevity purposes.

Charmco.com has an awesome selection of charms. They have antique charms, love and luck charms, animal charms, and many more. Their selection is definitely broad enough to help you start or end your charm hunt. I found an adorable Poodle Charm on this website [top left]. I have a poodle and when I got him I was going through a major turning point in my life. This charm will remind me of that painful yet necessary time. This was a time when I grew the most, so far!

I also love the mystical Seahorse Charm. It’s about an inch, a great fit for most charm bracelets. Seahorses are just a fun thing for me, but some may find significance in this creature of the sea.

My favorite section is the sports charms, but I must say I’m bummed that there isn’t a karate figurine doing a kick or a strike. Anyhow, there are a lot of other cool sports charms. Even though I don’t play golf, I really liked the Golf Clubs with Pearl Charm. I love the pearl in the center!

I did notice all my recommendations are yellow gold, so for those of you who are not gold lovers, there are websites that help you start a silver charm bracelet. I found a site called Blue Nile does just that. They offer two different kinds of silver charm bracelets and you can build your own look with the different charm options. I like the Birthstone Heart Charms [right] that can be personalized with an engraving. I think these charms are a great gift, I like that these charms can be clipped on to the silver bracelet as opposed to getting them melted on. Some of the yellow gold charms I have I had attached by a jeweler who had to melt them on to the bracelet, making it a bit more time consuming and expensive.

There you have it, a starter kit for some, and a motivation for those of you who are lagging. Like anything else in life, sometimes you just have to get up and do it, without talking about it. That’s why I’m doing the talking, after I have done the deed!
