How To: Transition Your Wardrobe from Winter to Spring

Transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring can be tricky since the seasons are polar opposites of one another. Winter is known for heavy, cozy knits that make you want to snuggle up under a wool blanket, while spring is all about freshness, lightness and brightness that make you crave sunshine and fresh air.

So how do you go from covered and cozy to airy and free? The following tips can help you start off spring on a positive fashion note.

Layer
This one is obvious but so important; layering as the seasons transition will help you be ready for whatever early spring weather throws at you. If you wear a tank top, wear a light sweater over it to make sure you don’t get too cold. Or if you’re wearing a skirt, wear some tights underneath to keep your legs protected. Even an airy scarf over your t-shirt counts. If worse comes to worst, you can always shed a layer!

Take It Slow
It can be tempting to pack up all your winter clothes as soon as spring starts, but wearing nothing but sundresses and shorts at the first sign of sunshine can come off as a little overenthusiastic. Spring weather can be temperamental, so don’t rush into a complete warm-weather wardrobe before you’re sure spring is here to stay. Add in sandals or a dress one at a time until it’s nice enough to put all your spring pieces together.

Lighten Up
You don’t need a down coat in the spring, but you will need a lighter jacket to keep yourself comfortable. Sweater jackets, blazers and cardigans are all good staples to keep in your closet to toss on over a dress when it’s breezy outside.

Embrace Color
Hues of navy, black and brown are always popular during winter, but spring is all about brightness. Light pastels and bright pops of pink, green and yellow fit in perfectly with spring’s natural greenery and flowers. Even if you’re wearing a cardigan or sweater, picking a brighter color will make you feel more springy and ready for warm weather.

Use What You Have
Just because you’re changing seasons doesn’t mean you need to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. Make the t-shirts and blouses you’ve been wearing underneath all your winter jackets and chunky sweaters your new spring statement pieces. They’ll feel like whole new clothes when you don’t have to cover them up!

Cache Navy Double-V Tank

→ Buy the Cache Navy Double-V Tank, $29.00 (was $58.00), at cache.

Follow these tips and you’ll be ready for the spring transition in no time; and you’ll look cute as you make it!
