New, Fresh Plaid: How to Wear it Now

It’s been a while since I featured plaid in an article. Going through January's issue of In Style, I noticed plaid has made a huge comeback in the fashion world. Last year it was seen mixed with other patterns and other textures, but this year plaid is making a solo appearance as well.

Although I am used to associating plaid with elementary and middle school, there are actually many nice (and more mature) ways to wear it now. Since I am a big Burberry fan, it seems plain that plaid and Burberry go hand in hand. Therefore, I do appreciate the pattern, but sometimes don’t give it enough credit. In reality, when I get to thinking about it, plaid is in a great world of its own. Explore it with me through these cool items I have highlighted.

With San Diego weather being near freezing and bringing more rain than usual, I have naturally been interested in rain boots more than ever. And although the weather is gray, it doesn’t mean I want to look dull. This featured plaid rainboot blends well with other raingear and is cute enough to wear somewhere swanky. This rainboot is very elegant and will keep the rain off your feet in ultra style.

Up next is a shirt that I absolutely adore! It’s fun and hip in such an effortless way. This red plaid shirt can be tucked into pants or worn over a long sleeve shirt. Either way, it’s a fabulous way to layer.

Need something more structured and sexy? This 7 For All Mankind velvet plaid skinny pant is the answer. It’s flattering and the colors allow you to amp up the look with a bright colored sweater, or tone it down with a fitted blazer and a men’s shirt for work. I love this pant with pumps (as pictured) - it looks very chic.

Last up is a girly, flirty dress that reminds me of the good old Clueless days. High neck and short body, this is great for a night out. Pair it with all kinds of shoe styles to change up its effect. Wear with stockings to give it that extra funky look, if you are daring.
