Coclico Shoes

Looking for a shoe that will satisfy your minimalist-leaning fashion sensibilities, but is also ethically and sustainably crafted? You’ve got to check out new-to-me label Coclico.

These luxurious leather shoes are designed in NYC and used materially sourced locally in Europe, near their family-run factory in Mallorca, Spain. Their sustainable practices include using vegetable-based dyes, renewable materials, and recycled shoe boxes, in addition to only local suppliers.

Founded by NYC-based French expatriate Sandra Canselier, the Coclico label has been up and running since 2000. I’ve been vaguely aware of the line for years, but just recently did a deep dive into their styles. I instantly fell in love with the modern minimalist look and commitment to “slow fashion.” Check out a few of my current favorites…

The glossy heel screams comfort, while the asymmetrical leather upper balances it out with a definite cool factor. The contrast between the pale leather and dark heel is striking. This is the perfect minimalist-chic work shoe.

Every shoe label has its own version of the skater sneaker these days. Coclico differentiates with a contrast platform sole that adds 1.5” of extra height.

This sale priced find from the spring collection ups the luxe factor on the ubiquitous sporty slide with rich tumbled calfskin leather and a cushioned leather footbed.

I love that this heel combines the leg-lengthening height of a pump with the security of an ankle bootie, thanks to the zip-back wide ankle strap. The pale beige leather is my favorite, but it’s also available in black.

This simple black almond-toe flat gets modern edge from a high vamp.

At first glance, this may look like standard issue reptile-embossed leather. But, it’s not. This leather pump is actually detailed with tiny triangles embossed into the leather upper. How’s that for a modern twist?
