Fashion Week 2007: The Big Apple Goes Grape for Fall

Thursday, February 08, 2007

It may be called "The Big Apple," but this week New York City was all about the grapes. As Mercedes Benz Fashion Week begins to wind down, one of the biggest trends this week has been the use of rich, exotic color to accent autumn neutrals. Over the past few days, the use of delicious shades of violet and plum has stood out as being particularly fresh and inviting.

If you are like most women, you don't own a stitch of purple clothing. Who can blame you? This notoriously hard to wear color has a bad rap as the favorite color of delightfully delirious old ladies thanks to Jenny Joseph's famous poem. In reality, shades of purple can actually be quite flattering and are especially well suited to woman with green and brown eyes. Ready to dip your toe into the world of purple clothing? Try out a shirt or peacoat in rich, dark plum. Set to jump in head first? A satin cocktail dress in shocking violet a la Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti is sure to turn heads. Any way you look at it, Fall 2007 is definitely grape season. Check out these hot purple looks from the runways:
