Sun Sauce beauty and skin care
Ahh, there's nothing like winter weather to get you feeling all scaly and dry. Add a love of tanning-- whether it be traditional, bed, or sunless-- to the mix and you are just asking for nasty, flaky skin. Every woman I know is searching for the next big thing in moisturizers right now, and ladies who love to tan are searching at a double frantic pace. When I heard about Sun Sauce-- the latest venture from the same super popular tanning lotion maker responsible for Hoss Sauce, Rebel Sun, and Outlaw Tanning-- I was instantly interested.

Sun Sauce makes three lines of products: Skin Care, Sunless Tanning, and Tanning. All Sun Sauce products are infused with a proprietary blend of Monoi Oil and Kukui Nut Oil, plus moisturizing Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil and Jojoba Oil and soothing Aloe Vera, Tea Tree Oil, and Hemp Seed Oil. The goal? Deep moisture replenishing, no matter if you are a tanner, a sunless tanner, or au natural. Ready to put Sun Sauce to the test, I dished out samples of their All Day Skin Firming Moisturizer with Hemp and Facial Recognition lotion to Stiletto Jungle Girl Talk panelists Tina, Kim, and Jennifer. So ladies, what say you?

"I really like the All Day Moisturizer," says Tina, a 34-year-old San Diego attorney with a love for the outdoors. "It is a great consistency and I really feel like my skin feels softer after I put it on. I like that my skin does not feel dry and icky in the cold weather. I would recommend the body lotion. Now the [Facial Recognition] face lotion I had a hard time with. I just didn't like the smell of it and could not wear it more than once. If you are putting something on your face, next to your nose, make sure it smells nice. I also didn't like the way my face felt after putting it on. I was actually surprised since I really like the body lotion, that I really didn't like the face lotion. I guess it happens."

"The Sun Sauce face moisturizer does not get a big thumbs up from me [either]," offers Kim, a 23-year-old from La Jolla, California. "It didn't go on light, which is a big factor when it comes to face moisturizers. You could feel it on your face all day. Secondly, the smell of the moisturizer was not pleasant-- it smelled like cough syrup. My face didn't show any significant changes after using the product every night. The moisturizer would sort of crumble on my skin during the day, and I would have to remove it with a damp cloth. So, as far the face moisturizer, I would not recommend it to any of my friends.

The All Day Moisturizer was good. It got the job of moisturizing down, but didn't last too long. I would have to re-moisturize again after several hours went by. Granted, it is winter, but I live in San Diego, so don't feel too bad for me. It was nice that it was odorless, and I found myself mixing it with my self-tanner on occasion, which was nice. The Sun Sauce moisturizer is reasonable for its retail price, therefore, I would recommend it to a friend. The body moisturizer went on very light as opposed to its face counterpart. It didn't make my legs feel like I had a bulk of lotion on before I got dressed. That is always nice, because nobody wants to feel like they have to wait for there lotion to seep into their pores before they can get dressed."

"Well, my first reaction was to the smell," starts Jennifer, a 31-year-old Long Beach, California, nurse and tanning enthusiast. "It reminded me of tanning bed lotion. Not that it smells bad, just not what I look for in a lotion. That aside, if moisturizing was its sole purpose, then it did the job they claim. I did notice that a little did go a long way and lasted pretty much all day, which is saying a lot for the cold weather skin I have been having these days. I didn't feel greasy and it soaked in quickly enough to moisturize and then throw on a pair of jeans right after. All in all, the All Day Moisturizer worked, but I have to say I noticed nothing in the way of skin firming. Nada. Zilch. Maybe if I had a month or two to continue my research I would, but for the 2 weeks: nothing.

The Facial Recognition smell was exactly the same thing. I have normal to dry skin and it kept my face well moisturized without that greasy feeling and I had no breakouts to speak of. I did notice a minimal difference in my fine lines around my mouth but nothing a cheaper bottle of Olay wouldn't do. I would probably not purchase these two particular items but I did however check out their line of Tanning Bed lotion products and look forward to ordering their Outlaw Tingling Tanning Lotion. So, if you are a tanning bed addict like myself, you might want to check it out. I have heard great things about it."

All in all, the Sun Sauce All Day Moisturizer gets a thumbs up from the Girl Talk panel, particularly because of its ability to moisturize without a greasy feeling. The Facial Recognition gets a mixed review, with the smell being a big downside, but wins positive remarks from our resident tanning enthusiast. Want to give it a try for yourself?
