Summer Fashion: The Multi Strand Necklace

Multi strand necklaces can be seen everywhere. Jessica Simpson and Sarah Jessica Parker both have down the sophistication of wearing a multi layered necklace solo, and with additional necklaces to accompany it. The beauty of multi strand necklaces is that they’re perfected in design to give you the look of someone who threw a few pieces together, and happened to strike gold. Similar to Sarah Jessica Parker, you can slip on a dainty shorter necklace with the multi-layered necklace in order to put a personal spin on it.

To keep things in the summer perspective, I found the R.J. Graziano Multi Strand Bead Necklace-- a gorgeous coral multi-stranded, and multi-sized beaded necklace. The beads create a bold color that will go well with any other bright color. Don’t be afraid to mix and match this piece with yellows, greens and blues. And, if you want to keep things simple, wear it with a strapless dress to cause your friends to swoon at the next happy hour.

Silver Multilayered Bead Necklace

$100.00
Available at: macys.com

For the less colorful ladies, I have found a very timeless Sterling Silver Multilayered Bead Necklace. It is a three layered necklace that you can wear to a wedding, work or a party. It’s very simple, and not in your face. This is definitely one of the necklaces where you can add a dainty, shorter or longer single necklace to personalize it. I guess you wouldn’t even have to go dainty with this necklace; you could pair it with a bolder piece to balance out the simplicity, especially if you feel an urge to go wild.

I found a hot, trendy Long Multi-Strand Floral Necklace at Target. This has too many little strands to count! But, the strands are all brought together by two big adorable flowers. One flower is a greenish-blue, and the other one is black. The various chains the necklace is made up of are all different, giving the necklace a lot of character. But, definitely be careful when storing this necklace. You want to make sure you don’t get all of those pretty chains tangled up. On a positive note, the necklace is nickel-free, which is great for ladies with sensitive skin.

All three multi-layered necklaces have the ability to transform any ordinary outfit to a rockin’ one. It’s funny how one piece of jewelry can make such a difference! Make sure to tone down the earrings when wearing these necklaces, otherwise you’ll look like a member of a tribe who’s required to have things hanging from all parts of the body-- no bueno!

New & Hot: Trina Cosmetic Cases at Nordstrom

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Trina Kelly Stripe Plum 4pc Deluxe Weekender
Trina Kelly Deluxe Weekender
$58.00
Available at:
nordstrom stores

So last week a big movement in cosmetics happened at Nordstrom... They are carrying a cosmetic bag line now. Maybe I just don't go into the section where these normally would be, but I think it's definitely a section that has been in demand for this type of product.

At Nordstrom stores across the nation on July 17th, the Anniversary Event and Fall Preview began. Ooh the excitement to finally see the coveted items covered in Vogue months ago... it's a prime moment in shopping, let me tell you! Trina luxury cosmetic bags were a part of this annual autumnal launch and for the next week, all the bags are priced at 40% off the regular price! The collection is actually inspired by what's hot in fashion... is there anything "hot" in bath items ever?

Well Allegro Mfg. gets it - they source the fabrics from the same places that the top designers get theirs from to create the perfect match between your fashionable on the streets look and the magical case that holds what you'll actually look like out there. The team there travels the world to discover the latest trends from the runways and actually incorporate these ideas into the bags. I love this idea. I think your style should match across the board - no need to strive for the free gift bags and that much needed mini Dior show mascara... or is there?

Well at least not for the free bag you can finally move into. My fav carried at Nordy's now are from the Kelly Stripe collection, with the simple yet always chic design, you can't go wrong with black and white. The 4pc Deluxe Weekender is big enough to carry it all and is only $58! Head over to your local Nordstrom now!

FOUND: Leighton Meester's Gossip Girl Shorts

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

With the Gossip Girl fashion drought in full swing, I'm suddenly thrilled with each new photo that appears from the set. Sure, we don't get the benefit of actual storyline, but at least we get a sneak peek at the fashions that are going to sell out as soon as new episodes start up again. The latest images to roll in from the set of Gossip Girl are these of our girl Leighton Meester, aka Blair, looking summerific in short shorts, wedges and a flowing top. Perhaps caught between scenes during an end-of-summer storyline? Or maybe just caught on the way to work? I'm not completely sure, but I do know that Leighton looks absolutely adorable.

These short shorts aren't for every girl, but when paired with a refined blouse and chic wedges, these Hudson shorts become more accessible for the everywoman. Ahh, I do miss my weekly Gossip Girl fashion fix, but looking forward to a hour's worth of fabulous style like this is keeping me hanging on!

How To: Get Luscious Full Lips

It’s time to talk sultry lips again. There is nothing more sensual than a perfect pout. Unfortunately, we are not all born with full lips like Angelina, but you don’t have to be born with an extraordinary pout to look kissable and sexy. We all have the potential with the right products.

One of my good girlfriends is allergic to cherries, and when she eats them her lips get swollen, giving her a larger than normal pout. She debates getting her lips injected, but I suggest she avoid a needle and deal with her stinging allergic reaction from cherries for the fuller pout she desires. My point is that if you slightly irritate your lips you will have fuller ones, and you can enhance them further with certain beauty products. Before you go surgical, try natural and cosmetically researched products that can help you get pucker ready.

C.O. Bigelow Cinnamint Mentha Lip Shine
C.O. Bigelow Cinnamint Lip Shine

$7.50
Available at: bigelowchemists.com

Over the years I have read and heard that people swear peppermint oil can help plump up lips. By applying a small amount on your lips you will irritate them and cause blood to rush to the lips, giving them a fuller appearance. Peppermint doesn’t just increase blood flow, but it also serves other helpful purposes. Peppermint is known to stimulate the mind, and help indigestion and nausea. Now, why wouldn’t you have it around? There is nothing better than a product that comes in handy mentally and physically.

This next item isn’t as helpful in aiding with mental issues, unless you claim your obsession with plumper lips is a severe sickness. This lip gloss is well known, and highly praised. The Lip Venom lip gloss by DuWop is a powerful plumping gloss that enhances lips’ natural color, and increases the definition of lips by increasing circulation with spicy cinnamon and ginger ingredients. Unlike the peppermint oil, DuWop Lip Venom actually gives lips a shiny smooth layer of gloss-- it’s an all in one product.

Increased lips seem to be the ultimate goal with these products, but if you want to look more natural with a juicy pucker, and keep your breath minty fresh, try the C.O. Bigelow Mentha Cinnamint Lip Shine. This is the ultimate combination of the peppermint and the DuWop lip gloss. It’s a lip balm; there is no color. The balm does have a glitzy shine that will last and keep lips moisturized. Soft lips, shine, and incredible fresh breath-- trust me, someone will fantasize about kissing you.

Fall Fashion: Thigh High Boots are Back!

Monday, July 27, 2009

--By Jules Newmark

Thigh high boots have always been so sexy to me. They don't remind me of a Pretty Woman moment as much as they just seem to be SO chic! Also, you can wear a really mini dress and not look like you're revealing everything... right? This is the new hottest look for Fall evenings if you ask me.

Well Stuart Weitzman has the right idea and agrees of course - for this Fall, he has created the HIHO Boot in black suede with a brown stack platform and heel - these are insane! The boot is fitted along the leg, creating an amazing silhouette for the body. This boot style is definitely for the toned and thinner of legs, so looks like the summer workouts and starvation diets shall continue into the fall.

Stuart Weitzman - Fall Shoes - HIHO Boots

Did you know Weitzman designs 300 new styles of shoes/bags per year?! That's an extraordinary amount of accessories for one man's mind, but he is truly a genius. If you haven't visited StuartWeitzman.com, you've fallen off the face of the planet as he's been on top of technology, running an online store since '98. The shoes are all made in Spain and each pair takes about 7 weeks to produce... I wonder if all these designers are as hands on. I guess the higher prices seem like a fuller value when you hear that 80 craftsmen will each have at least touched each pair of shoes! Start saving ladies... I can see these boots everywhere!

FOUND: Warm Weather Wraps

Friday, July 24, 2009

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Victoria's Secret Soft and Sexy Sweater Wrap
Victoria's Secret Sweater Wrap

$49.00 (was $58-- save 16%!)
Available at: victoriassecret.com

With the Del Mar race season back in full force, it’s never appropriate to look anything but your best. A persistent issue with me and my friends is whether we’re going to bring a jacket along when we head out. The answer is always YES! You never know if you’ll get chilly, and the last thing you want to do is drink in order to stay warm. Drinking to stay warm is a great way to end up being the “sloppy girl” at the end of the night. So, get your priorities in order, think ahead and avoid the future whining.

It’s definitely unusually hot in San Diego this summer, but the ocean breeze has its cooling effect, and so it’s smart to bring a lightweight wrap. Wraps and cardigans are easier to tag along than jackets because you can stuff them in your bag, or drape it around you without feeling like you’re wearing a parka. The lightweight wraps I choose for the summer are lighter and brighter materials that add to the dress, not take away from the sexy look. The sexy part is that they sort of drape over the body-- a laid back, confident look. Plus, sometimes it’s nice to walk in somewhere with something to take off…

Women: Long wrap cardigan - vineyard
Gap Long Wrap Cardigan

$59.50
Available at: gap.com

It wasn’t as easy as I thought to find some nice wraps. I guess I forgot where I accumulated mine over the years. With some searching, sure enough I found some wearable and very useable wraps for you ladies. My first choice is from Victoria’s Secret, where else is there to go to find sexy? This sweater wrap is perfect for a day and night out on the town. It’s soft, thin and elegant. Wearable and easy to store everywhere, this is a must have for diva’s night out. The Victoria’s Secret Soft & Sexy Sweater Wrap is made from a Cotton and Cashmere mix, now that screams luxury!

I’ve been checking out Newport News a lot lately. They have some simple pieces women need as staples in their closet. I adore the Wrap Cardigan I discovered on the site, especially in the Citrus Yellow color. This wrap has a lot of personality, so it would look wonderful with a plain-Jane outfit underneath. It’s a lightweight cotton cardigan, therefore it’s easy to stuff in a bag and won’t be a burden to wear or carry around. Much of its character is because the front is longer, and has a ruffled bottom with a flawless perfected drape over the shoulder. This wrap will give you the presence of an angel and the presence of a vixen when you take it off!

Not to gear away from sexy or anything, but sometimes less is more. In this case, this Gap Long Wrap Cardigan is very smart to have on hand in the car or office. It’s a thin cotton material and it works well with pants or some cute shorts. I like how it’s a baggy comfortable sweater. I couldn’t say it better than the description, “luxurious length makes it a versatile essential.”

Summer Fashion: The Jumpsuit

Thursday, July 23, 2009

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Newport News Colorblock Jumpsuit
Newport News Colorblock Jumpsuit

$49.00 (was $64-- save 23%!)
Available at: newport-news.com

I'm a little past due with the topic of Jumpsuits, but better late than never. Jumpsuits are not just for mechanics anymore. Jumpsuits are a quick wardrobe decision that looks polished and keeps you aired out during the heat. One of my favorite sassy gals, Sloan from Entourage, wears jumpsuits all the time to give her a drop-dead gorgeous, classy look.

Before I place jumpsuits on a pedestal, I will say I'm anti M.C. Hammer pant suits. They look awful on everyone, and they’re too crazy to possibly look good in. I will showcase jumpsuits that turn the average woman's legs to long model looking legs. Who wouldn’t be an advocate for clothing that makes you look taller and leaner? There are always a lot of opinions about what body type does or doesn't work with jumpsuits, but there are certain styles of jumpsuits that work well with most! I'm covering pant jumpsuits, but there are short versions that aren't my cup of tea. Either way, you've got to stick to your own personal style, and represent yourself with the utmost confidence.

Donna Morgan One Shoulder Jumpsuit with Belt
Donna Morgan One-Shoulder Jumpsuit

$138.00
Available at: nordstrom.com icon

My first jumpsuit, the Newport News Colorblock Jumpsuit, is so hot! I honestly think it's the most casual, yet alluring jumpsuit. I like the unique brown/black color combination, and the bright pink belt that comes with it. The style is very soft, and wearable. It doesn't look so rigid. If you are a jumpsuit virgin, this one may be a little jump for you, no pun intended.

For the hesitant ladies who are less likely to go for color and a dramatic look, I have a sexy Donna Morgan One Shoulder Jumpsuit. This jumpsuit is very extravagant and will accentuate curves like no other. Smaller framed women could, and should, take full advantage of this jumpsuit. The flared legs give it an extra boost of character, without looking too hippie.

For the exotic loving ladies, I have a fun, gorgeous deep orange jumpsuit. It also comes in black, but there’s no comparison. This Newport News Wide-Leg Halter Jumpsuit is probably the most flattering jumpsuit. The shirred bust and beaded tie straps are a simple addition to the vibrant dress. It’s a comfortable jumpsuit that can be flavored up some more with accessories or worn simply and elegantly in the summer heat.

Move over Juicy suits; you’re not THE suit anymore-- there is a newer, classier, and hipper one town.

How To: Dress Up Denim for Summer

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

sponsored by:
Express.com

I have to admit, as much as I love getting all dolled up for a night out on the town, I kind of love the fact that a pair of artfully dressed up jeans will get you in to just about any nightspot in California. Ahh, the beauty of west coast living. After spending my twenties living nomad-style all over California, I'm pretty much an expert at dressing up denim. So, when the good people at Express asked if I'd be interested in sharing my personal style with a post on how to properly dress up denim, I knew they had the right girl for the job.

How to Dress Up Express Denim

The secret to dressing up denim, in my opinion, is layering on the luxe with rich textures and fabrics... and avoiding the black top, black shoes cliche. First, you've got to start with the right pair of jeans. Skinny denim in the darkest wash you can find is always a super safe bet. The Express Zelda Skinny Leg Jean in Raw Distress fits the bill perfectly. Add a 100% silk crepe blouse for drapey, luxurious effect. Perfect for all seasons, silk instantly adds polish to any outfit.

When it comes to fabulous footwear, anything tall and strappy will add a sense of occasion. But, these days I'm particularly fond of the uber-trendy high heel, gladiator-inspired sandal. The elaborate straps and leatherwork become almost like jewelry for your feet. These Guess Footwear Karaoke sandals are a great pick that can be dressed up or down. Icing on the cake? A layered chain bracelet in copper and brass to toughen up the look. This ensemble is perfect for midsummer rooftop bar soiree. Bring on the party invites!

Here's where you can find the items I used to dress up the Express Zelda Skinny Leg Jeans:

Express Zelda Skinny Leg Jean - $49.50
Rory Beca Crepe Back Zip Top - $143.00 (was $238-- save 40%!)
Guess Footwear Karaoke Sandals - $120.00
Twisted Silver River Bracelet - $80.00

So, there's something to be said for how far the surf brands have come in the fashion world. I'm not sure if you grew up near the beach, but I've been wearing Roxy since it came out - it was the coolest brand where I came up, hangin' at the beaches in LA and it's still kicking with it's original style and must have looks for young girls. I don't think I knew what Chanel or Louis Vuitton was even making... nor did I care - how times change!

But, since I was a girl, Quiksilver, the big Poppa bear to Roxy, has created a women's line to go along with the men's line for a more sophisticated Roxy girl growing up. I can truly say it looks not only hip, but is made really well and doesn't have the surf bum feel. From their Bohemian Beauty appeal to the Rocker Chic looks, you can go out in what started out as apparel to surf in and be compared to someone who just spent a big lot shopping on Robertson.

Dresses are in the $70-$80 range and they have everything to complete a wardrobe. Not only stylish, the brand stays true to the look and feel - the "models" are not quite just pretty faces. They are artists, songstresses and do-gooders who not only capture exactly the words the line would speak, but also inspire the women who wear it. So if you're like me, head back to your roots, womens.quiksilver.com... live a little!

How To: Get Mad Men Hair Style

Friday, July 17, 2009

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Alterna CAVIAR Working Hair Spray
Alterna Caviar Hair Spray

$26.00
Available at: beauty.com icon

I’m so excited that season three of Mad Men is starting up. Whether you like the plot line, or not, the fashionable looks on the show are to die for! August 16th the show will be starting off strong on AMC, and there will be some great upcoming trends. There are some things in the fashion and beauty world that will never leave us, and continue to make us feel empowered and dignified, and that’s the best kind of fashion, hence why it’s still persisting. With hip hugging and waist accentuating clothing, the ‘50s took the shape of women and turned it into a sexy, sleek look.

But, what seems to be more consistent through both seasons 1 and 2 is the ‘50s Mad Men hair-do. Whether up, curly and down, or bouffant style, the ladies of the show have never had a bad hair day. Gloria Ponce, the hair stylist for the show, has done her research when it comes to ‘50s and ‘60s hair-dos. She’s never missed the mark once! Today’s modern women can take note of her hair masterpieces, and continue the trend at home. With 3 key items, the ‘50s hair-do can be yours in less than 30 minutes.

To get Betty’s down do, and Joan’s office ready up-do, you want to invest in miracle working hot rollers. The Infiniti by Conair Tourmaline Ceramic Flocked Rollers are a hit! According to reviews and friends who curl their hair as a second nature, this set is the Rolls Royce of heating hair curler sets. The Tourmaline ceramic curlers help smooth the cuticle layer, giving your hair an extra shiny performance. These curlers work their magic by evenly distributing the heat, with a quick and easy 2 minute heat up! For different hair types, and pure convenience reasons, there is a 12-temperature setting on these curlers. I couldn’t ask for an easier to use result-oriented curler! Click and buy ladies. Click it in your hair and you will look fabulous! It’s worth it!

Vidal Sassoon Bobbi Pins

After the heat has worn off, and the curlers are taken out, it’s time to insure maximum curl time. Now, that’s where shine sprays come in. My ultimate hair shine spray is by Alterna. This Alterna Caviar Working Hair Spray is ultra dry, but flexible enough to hold the hair. The spray actually helps enhance the strength and elasticity of the hair, while simultaneously stimulating protein and instant vibrancy. Now that’s a product worth spraying all over the people you love. They won’t take offense; it’s for a good cause, as hair usually is. Personally, I love the fact that the Alterna Caviar shine spray doesn’t feel heavy on the scalp, and refrains from leaving gross residue all over the scalp. No lice look-a likes for me!

After a nice curl job, and shiny hairspray to keep them intact, the next step would be the actual needle to the hammer. So, next up are the simplest, purest form of an up-do: Bobbi pins. I always have 6-8 packs of Bobbi pins handy, not because I need that many, but because you never know how many friends need them, and how many you loose along the way. So, be prepared for the scenarios, and buy yourself 60 Vidal Sassoon Bobbi Pins for $1.29! They are like the little friend everyone underestimates. Without Bobbi pins Mad Men wouldn’t accomplish such sophisticated, perfect dos. Bobbi pins piece things together, and hide the pieces we wish not to divulge, because to an outsider it must look perfectly smooth and in order! That’s what ‘50s hair, and elegance is, and was all about! Faking the funk, and pulling it off with attitude!

Summer Fashion: Hoop Earrings

Growing up, my mom had a friend named Rita who rocked a super short haircut and loved flaunting her confidence by wearing gigantic hoop earrings. Today, I think of Rita often because the hoop trend is still surrounding us in the fashion world. I love when I see ladies wearing the hoop earrings without hesitation, alongside limited jewelry. Hoop earrings have a lot of attitude, and I love the fact that they look great on ladies with short or long hair, despite what some fashion experts say. Hoops also look stunning with pulled back hair, as well as with layered hair with some bangs.

J.Lo is one big fan of hoop earrings; she loves wearing her sassy hoops as often as she can. Every music video she is in shows her dancing to her own beat with some large hoops, giving her flashbacks of her identity growing up in the Bronx-- the bigger the hoop, the bigger the attitude. I like the idea of wearing gutsy bold hoops as a way to relay confidence. Not everyone can afford J.Lo’s bling’d out pave earrings, but that’s okay, because it's hard to carry around the weight of real heavy authentic hoop earrings anyway.

Since turquoise is a summer color, and hoops are back in style, why not combine the two? The Francesca's Collections Cassandra Hoops are a great, “all in one” pair. The precious turquoise stones are embedded in crinkled hoops giving them a simple, work appropriate look. These earrings are definitely a toned down version of most gem embedded hoops. Perfect for the less daring chicas!

Moving on to a lot of sass and attitude, Bloomingdales is carrying ABS by Allen Schwartz Pavé Hoop Earrings that give off a bold vibe. I wouldn’t recommend wearing them to work. These earrings give off enough glam to stun an Oscar crowd. This pair is limiting, and needs to be paired with a less eccentric outfit. The doorknocker kind of tones them a bit, creating a softer subtle look-perfect for a classic French twist.

Heading towards the East, Kate Spade surprises me with her Cortes Paillette Hoop Earrings. A good surprise, of course! Gearing away from her traditional design, she went exotic and came up with these textured hoops that will dramatically change your look by brightening up your face. I would not go makeup crazy and start pasting all kinds of colors on my face when wearing the Cortes earrings. Wear them with a simple maxi dress or a bright mini dress, and you will be the sriracha chili sauce to any occasion. Being spicy is a good thing when you’re from the East!

The fabulously layered pieces have transformed into wearable pieces, ranging from pleated skirts and bubble hem dresses to strapless numbers you can wear out anywhere. The fantastic designer has spent the last 6 months toiling away with this collection and it's all made of eco-friendly fabric. Tops are in the hundred dollar range and skirts around $170. My favorite is a coral pleated bubble hem dress called Victrine, costing about $275 on Bluefly - there's something about it that just seems so utterly perfect for a summer day at the races! Try watching the vlog on BlueFly of Kelly Cutrone and Leanne talking about everything you need to know. If Kelly doesn't do it for you - the clothes obviously will do it because with that style, you can't go wrong!

Win a Dream Closet Makeover & $10,000 in Clothes

Monday, July 13, 2009

--By Jules Newmark

A few months ago, I made a pact with myself. Well, a few of them, but the one that stuck was that I would organize my closet. And not just pick up the clothes and hang them either. I wanted a built in masterpiece. One that you've only dreamed of and of course seen in chick flick movies... not quite that extreme, but at least have a place to showcase my fantastic shoellection (shoe collection - getting so creative these days, ha) and to house my wide variety of clothing and accessories. I went to the Container Store and made it happen with an Elfa closet, but if given a money-is-endless option, I certainly would have had Easy Track come in and give me a "Dream Closet Makeover."

Little Black Dress Wines - Dream Closet Makeover

Well, with the sweepstakes for the "DCM" launched by Zappos.com, Easy Track and Little Black Dress Wines, you can possibly win a new closet build-in and $10,000 of clothing and accessories to fill it up from Zappos.com! You can enter until November 30th on LittleBlackDressWines.com On the LBDW website you will find celeb fashion tips and of course party know-how and wine cocktail recipes. “Women’s fashion budgets – like everything else these days – are slim to none,” said Kim Charney, brand manager for Little Black Dress Wines. “That’s why we’re so excited to not only show women how to maximize their LBDs with the hottest accessories of the season, but also give them a chance to win a prize only a true fashionista could dream of!”

Also, don't miss the new Cabernet Sauvignon just released by LBDW with a nice fruit finish perfect for a night out in your favorite Little Black Dress. Not like I'm always promoting a cocktail or two... or am I? But, try a cocktail with the wine; 2 oz Little Black Dress® Cabernet, ½ oz Tuaca®, ½ oz Amaretto®, 3 oz lemon-lime soda, roll all those ingredients around in a shaker filled with ice and enjoy! LDBW have been around since 2006 and are marketed by the same company as Jack Daniel's and Korbel, so you're in good hands! As they say, responsible drinking is always in style.
