Bite Beauty Lip Shine Gloss
Lip products have been getting a bad rap lately for their not-so-healthy ingredients. Makes sense. After all, "wearing off" is just code for getting eaten in the lip product world. The fact that wearing lip cosmetics means that we're ingesting compounds that were never meant to be eaten is a little scary. It was inevitable that lines like Bite Beauty would start popping up.

Bite Beauty is a new line of lip products being sold at Sephora . Bite Beauty's defining feature is the addition of the antioxidant resveratrol, which is meant to be ingested via the normal "wearing off" process. In addition to featuring resveratrol, the Bite Beauty formula also includes organic shea butter, superfoods, and food-grade colors. In short, these lip products are actually made to be eaten.

When I spotted the Bite Beauty display at my local Sephora , and I stopped to read the literature, I knew I had to give it a try. I picked up a tube of Bite Beauty Lip Shine Gloss in Prosecco, a sheer nude color. This is my Bite Beauty review.

Packaging and Instructions

The Bite Beauty Lip Shine comes in a standard round tube with wand applicator. It's substantial, but not heavy, and has a chic matte smoke grey lid. The outer packaging is equally chic: simple matte textured dove grey cardboard with tomato red embossed writing. Truthfully, it was the striking outer packaging that initially drew me to the Bite Beauty display.

Texture and Feel

I found Bite Beauty's Lip Shine texture to be thick for a gloss, but not uncomfortably so. It went on smoothly, with even color application, and did not feel sticky. The overall texture was comfortable and moisturizing. I did find the taste/ smell to be a bit waxy. Given the gorgeous color, I was subconsciously expecting something kind of fruity or fresh. But, it makes sense that the actual taste was less appealing -- such is the way with products that refuse to use artificial fragrances. The waxy smell/ taste wasn't overpowering or unpleasant enough to keep me from using this product.

Results

Of course, I have no way of knowing whether the addition of antioxidants benefited me in any way. But, I like the thought of there being something actually good for me in my lip products. As for the more practical results you would look for in a gloss -- the color was rich, the formula moisturizing but not sticky, and the gloss lasted just as long, if not longer than, other brands.

Bottom line: the gloss works as well as, if not better than, any other glosses I've used. Plus, I feel a little healthier knowing that I'm only ingesting food-grade ingredients, and a little extra antioxidant power along with it. The smell/ taste isn't super pleasant, but not bad enough to keep me from using this product again. My overall grade: 4 out of 5 stars.
