I don't know about you, but when it comes to working out I can use all the motivation I can get. Whether that motivation comes in the form of a workout partner, the best new music downloads on the coolest new iPod, or the most fabulous workout wear I can find, I need all the help I can get. So, I love the whole idea behind NIKEiD.

For the past 10 years, NIKEiD has allowed users to customize a wide range of Nike workout good, including shoes, workout clothes and equipment. Customization options include everything from color to materials to custom licensed team apparel. Really fun, right? Well, now NIKEiD has added to the range of items that can be customized. We can now get custom versions of the Nike Free shoe!

I'm sure you've seen Nike Free shoe floating around. It's the shoe that merges the natural motion of a bare foot with the protection of traditional footwear. You can use NIKEiD to customize your Nike Free shoes right on the Nike Facebook page via the NIKEiD app. Check it out at: https://apps.facebook.com/nikefreerunid/.

Customized Nike Free Shoes from NIKEiD
My super fabulous, customized Nike Free shoes via NIKEiD

So, I tried my hand at customizing my own pair of Nike Free shoes via NIKEiD. I started with the basic Nike Free Run ID Running shoe. You can see my handiwork above. To start, I got my choice of upper construction -- a lightweight and minimal version, or a more substantial supportive version. I went lightweight...in Hot Punch, a bright pink that feels oh-so-Spring-2012.

Next, I got my colorblock on by adding Blue Glow mesh. A white swoosh created a standout element, especially when coupled with white laces (those are going to be a pain to keep clean, but they look soooo cool). I added a second pair of laces in Stealth grey free of charge, just to be safe.

The choices for midsole depend on whether you want a super barefoot ride or the Nike+ enabled version. I went barefoot, in Blue Glow, with a Hot Punch midsole rim. Entirely too much fun to mix-and-match. To finish off your creation, you can choose from your own custom ID, a custom Nike logo, or the J4BW (Journey for a Better World) logo. I went J4BW. The end result, a funky, fabulous shoe that would definitely inspire me to get my behind moving, even if just to get to wear my super custom new Nike Frees.
