It is the time of year when the wedding invitations start filling the mailbox. If you have been invited to one, two, or even three weddings for the upcoming season, it is time to start thinking about what you are going to wear. Happily, there are many beautiful styles in stores right now that would be just perfect for a wedding guest. Get inspired by these pretty ideas about what to wear to a wedding this summer.

Consider Color
Personally, I always think that women should wear something pretty when they are guests at a wedding, especially in the summer. Leave the old standby little black dress in your closet, and choose something more festive and seasonal. Think color, print, texture, and romantic details. For instance, a beautiful option for a summer wedding is eyelet lace.

This season there are some marvelous eyelet skirts and simple sheath dresses available. Choose one in a pretty hue like blue or seashell pink, rather than a bridal white eyelet. The great thing about eyelet is that it is very romantic, but not overly fragile or precious, which makes it rather versatile. You could dress down an eyelet sheath with a short cardigan and wedge shoes for an outdoor afternoon wedding in the country, or make it more elegant with your best wedding jewelry, a silk wrap, and high heels for a late afternoon ceremony in a church.

It's a Wrap
Wrap dresses and shirt dresses are very popular this season, and they are fantastic for weddings. While the style of these dresses is not especially formal, they can be found in some very pretty fabrics, colors, and prints. A well-tailored khaki polished cotton shirt dress would be a great base for creating a unique look with accessories.

Pair it with a chunky coral necklace and wood stacked heels for a chic summery style. A really interesting clutch with embroidery or a tribal print will add some texture to your outfit. Best of all, you can re-purpose the shirt dress with sandals and a jean jacket for the a pulled together weekend look. Anytime you can buy one dress that you can wear more than one way, it is a good investment.

Flower Power
For something a bit dressier, consider a knee length dress with a watercolor style floral print. Look for a dress done in the prettiest colors for summer, like shades of pink, green, and cream. Choose a dress with a natural waist and a fuller skirt for a flirty style borrowed from the 1950s. Or go for a slim sophisticated silhouette with gentle gathering at the waistline and tiny cap sleeves. These ultra-feminine florals call for romantic pearl wedding jewelry and peep toe slingback shoes. Picture this style of attire for a wedding at a country club or in a beautiful garden.

Ruffles Rule
Attending a formal wedding this summer? You can't go wrong with satin and ruffles (together or separately). A sleeveless ruffly silk top with a satin pencil skirt would be a very elegant style for a formal daytime celebration. Wear lots of great bracelets as part of your wedding jewelry set.

If you will be attending a formal evening wedding, a long floaty chiffon dress with rows of ruffles will strike the right note. Put your hair up and show off your favorite pair of sparkly earrings. Now that you know what to wear for any style of summer wedding, you are sure to make a fabulous looking wedding guest!
