I have the worst chapped lips and dry skin this month. I have had to hydrate like crazy! I’ve been trying not to use rough daily facial cleansers and have been using hydrating lotion and cleansers nightly. I typically don’t get chapped lips, but this year I’ve been facing that issue as well. Most of the year I use prescription facial cleansers that contain benzoyl peroxide, but during the winter I have to use it sparingly, or not at all, because my face peels too much. I don’t want to walk around looking like I just got a chemical peel, so I have incorporated three simple and wallet-friendly items that have made a huge difference for my dry skin and lips.

My first skin saver is Nivea Crème, a rich deep lotion. This particular Nivea lotion, which is packaged in blue, is one of the most hydrating skin lotions I’ve tried. This stuff is thicker than most lotions but it does absorb, and keeps the skin hydrated for the most of the day. This lotion is meant for all over use, but I mainly use it on my lips, neck, elbows and knees; twice a day, morning and night. There are also small travel Nivea tins available that you can take anywhere, or leave in your car for dry skin emergencies.

This next helpful facial product has prevented my skin from peeling, and has contributed to its acne-free softness. Cetaphil daily facial cleanser is suitable for most people because it’s easy on the skin, but it definitely removes the surface oils and dirt. This is a wonderful cleanser for those of you who wash your skin frequently throughout the day because it keeps the skin hydrated and it rinses the skin clean without clogging the pores. You can also use Cetaphil as a makeup remover, or basically as an all around miracle cleanser. The best part is that your husband or boyfriend can use it too, and trust me, he will start seeing results after a week.

Kiehl's Lip Balm #1 Jar

I know a lot of people use chap sticks from the grocery store-- you know, the kind sold next to the register. But sorry, those don’t work for me, unless I want to reapply every 5 minutes! I believe there are a few Kiehl’s products that everyone should have, and their soothing lip treatment, Lip Balm #1, is one of them. This lip treatment alleviates dryness and discomfort. This soothing treatment last a long time, and a little bit of it goes a long way. For under $10, you’re definitely getting a lot of quality, and a reliable treatment for a re-occurring problem.

No more peeling faces, cracked lips and dry joints-- it’s time to keep hydrated and looking young, because spring will be here faster than you think!
