FOUND: Fun Halloween Costumes for Women

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 • Permalink •

Sexy Marie Antoinette Costume
Sexy Marie Antoinette Costume

$29.99 (was $74-- save 59%!)
Available at: forplay.com

Halloween is the yearly fun-filled day of spooks. It isn’t just for little kids anymore. With endless parties going on at adult venues, it’s hard to resist the day that allows you to be adventurous and be somebody else. Halloween allows you to be a kid again, and justify why you have a huge bowl of candy on your table and empty candy wrappers in your trashcan.

I know it seems like the holiday only offers Halloween costumes for teeny boppers who wear a size 0, but all you have to do is put a personal spin on the costumes. If they are too revealing, you can switch out the skirt for some thick leggings, or a longer skirt. Don’t let a standard costume gear you away from a day that can be filled with laughter and PG-13, or perhaps rated R, behavior. Come on, join the fun!

One year I dressed up as an Ace card, and honestly I looked like a big bloated fish-- it was awful. Ever since my costume nightmare I have vowed to step it up and look cute and different. My girlfriend, who bought a few costumes this year, recommended some sites that will get your heart racing. Most of the costumes are a little revealing, but you can calm the look down by altering it a little. Don’t stress, and have fun being someone else for the night!

Adult Bee Costume - Sexy Bee Costume
Adult Bee Costume

$28.00
Available at: trashy.com

My first pick is a girly Boxer costume with pink trim. I like this because you can pair the camisole and the boxer robe with some black leggings if you don’t feel like heading out with bare legs. Add some big hoop earrings and a gold grill for your teeth and you’ll be good to go! The costume comes with an underwire camisole, a robe, skirt, and boxing gloves. So, go knock ‘em out but, not literally.

Ahh… don’t we all wish we had that Marie Antoinette old-school glamour? Well, the sexy Marie Antoinette look can be yours with this French Princess costume. This costume has a lot of detail compared to other Halloween costumes. The royal costume has the look down to every detail. The dress has long sleeves, mesh cuffs, and all the extra embellishments suited for a queen. Live your dream and be a queen, now all you have to do is find your king.

Whether you’re a boxer or a queen you can’t avoid being stung by a bee. Next, I’ve got an adorable Bee costume for just $28! That’s a steal for a costume! I just think this is so adorable. I mean you can wear pants with this, or you can flaunt it and snag some hearts on the way. You get the attached stinger, antennae, and wings with the dress. If you already have a costume, you can always purchase this for next year. Thinking ahead is never a bad idea.

Boy Meets Girl Lady Cotton & Bamboo Top
Boy Meets Girl "Lady" Top

$59.99 (was $126-- save 52%!)
Available at: smartbargains.com

I'm a big believer that comfortable doesn't have to be ugly. Maybe I've been watching Stacy and Clinton for too long. Or maybe I've just become wise to one of the cardinal truths of being a fashionista. Either way, it's 100% true. It's just as comfy to wear a chic, interesting cotton top as a plain old hoodie. And, if you are a smart shopper, it can be just as inexpensive.

This cotton-bamboo blend "Lady" Top from Boy Meets Girl is one of those items that will feel like your favorite sweats, but look like you actually put a little thought into what you're wearing. Ok, I'll be the first to admit this top looks a little silly in this picture. Seriously, fire the stylist who decided that pulling the top down tight over sweatpants was the way to sell this look. But, imagine this button-front cowl neck styled slouchy over skinny jeans or leggings... now you get what I'm talking about, right?

Dolce Vita Trinity Studded Pumps
Dolce Vita Trinity Pumps

It's starting to feel like Fall's dark, lush look is the season I've been waiting for. Everything about the greys and blacks with touches of rich color speaks to me. I'm all about Lanvin meets Prada, meets Givenchy... with a touch of Marc Jacobs. You know where I'm going with this. Um, does this mean that black is the new black? Ok, I'll stay away from the fashion cliches. But, it's safe to say that I'm suddenly addicted to all things dark and moody-- when it comes to fashion at least.

High on my Fall to-buy list is a pair of decadent black pumps with a little edge. Perfect for pairing with skinny black pants for a rocker vibe, or a ladylike dress to create fashionista spice, a pair of smashing black pumps is a smart Fall wardrobe addition.

These new Trinity Studded Pumps from Dolce Vita are exactly what I have in mind. Black leather, 4.5" stacked heel (with hidden platform), and acres of tiny little studs... plus a price tag that, while hardly a flash in the pan, is not so high that I feel like I could only bust these pumps out on special occasions. Love it.

Steven by Steve Madden Stacy Wine Leather Pump
Steven by Steve Madden Stacy Pump

$79.99 (was $169-- save 52%!)
Available at: smartbargains.com

A little bit retro, a little bit punk. These Stacy Pumps from Steven by Steve Madden blend bits of several trends to create a fun-loving shoe in a perfect wine shade.

The Stacy Pump features reptile-embossed leather with dark antique gold zipper trim. Yes, that's right-- that detail work that looks a whole lot like piping in this picture is actually antiqued zipper. If you click through to a larger picture, you'll see that the zipper detail "unzips" from the toe outwards. The zippers add a super fun touch to a shoe that would vibe very retro-chic if left unadorned. Perfect for peeking out from under your favorite denim, these pumps have a 4.5" stacked heel that is nicely tempered by a .75" covered platform.

Lo Bosworth Has a Fling With Stiletto Jungle

Monday, September 28, 2009 • Permalink •

--By Jules Newmark

Lo Bosworth - Best Fling
There’s something to be said for a girls’ night out, with flings ranging from fetes to food, men to makeup and of course a reason to celebrate. Lo Bosworth from the hit MTV series The Hills knows all about flings from her “naughty but not so naughty” character. Bosworth recently received the award for “Best Fling” from Mars FLING Chocolate, the official sponsor of the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Get your fashionable chocolate fix and insider scoop right here with Stiletto Jungle!

Jules: Hi Lo and welcome to The Stiletto Jungle! Are you addicted to chocolate or does FLING Chocolate just love you?

Lo: Thanks for having me! FLING is the official chocolate sponsor of the recent Emmys and in honor of that they created the “Best Fling” award and decided to honor me, which is really cool…It’s more about a lifestyle not just a fling with guys - it’s about having a fling with a restaurant or a new pair of shoes. It fits perfectly into my lifestyle and it’s only 85 calories! I have a guilt-free FLING a day!

Jules: Our readers love a good fling, especially when it comes to fashion and girls’ nights out. Speaking of, on The Hills you’re seen having fun nights out with your girlfriends…what’s your favorite “naughty but not that naughty” girls’ nights out location in LA?

Lo:
I am loving the Tropicana Bar at The Roosevelt right now. I like to have fun, but I don’t need to have over the top kind of nights all the time – and I think that’s why the relationship I have with FLING is a good representation - I like to have naughty but not that naughty nights out. I’m just a normal girl who likes to have a little bit of fun every once in a while.

Jules: Any new changes for the show this season on The Hills?

Lo: Well I do have a boyfriend, he’s my… long-term fling, but he’s not going to be on the show. But you will learn more about me - people are going to see me being the moderator between characters.

Jules: Well enough with the party chatter, what about your fashion and beauty picks before we close?

Lo: Well, I love Phillip Lim and anything from Topshop, as it’s so affordable and easy. For this Fall I am loving my Theory leather jacket and oversized sweaters. To top off my look, I like a more natural beauty look – just highlight your best features!
Well thanks to Lo we had our low calorie sweet-tooth fill for the day and got some background on our favorite “naughty but not so naughty” character from The Hills! Check out your new favorite snack at FlingChocolate.com or Facebook.com/flingchocolate and be sure to watch the new season of The Hills premiering Tuesday, September 29, at 10:00 p.m. on MTV.

Elizabeth and James Breast Cancer Awareness Necklace
Elizabeth and James BCA Necklace

$58.00
Available at: shopbop.com

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. That means it's time for all of us to stand together to raise the public consciousness about this disease that has affected so many of our lives. If, like me, your life has been directly affected by breast cancer, I don't have to tell you how important this cause really is.

Haven't been affected yet? Do you know that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer at some time in her life? Name your 7 best girlfriends... one of you will develop breast cancer. If that isn't enough to jump start you into action, I don't know what will.

So, how can you help? Remind your family and friends about the importance of self-examination, doctor examination and regularly scheduled mammograms. Volunteer for a breast cancer awareness charity. Or, go the fashionista route and take this month as a chance to indulge in some amazing designer finds while contributing to outstanding Breast Cancer Awareness organizations. All month we'll be featuring fashionable finds that also contribute to Breast Cancer Awareness activities. It's indulgent shopping, without a touch of guilt.

First up, my personal favorite of the new BCA fundraising items-- the brand new Elizabeth and James Breast Cancer Awareness Necklace. This gorgeous rose gold plated necklace, designed by Robert Lee Morris for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's Elizabeth and James label, is being sold exclusively at Shopbop. As part of this exclusive, Shopbop will donate $15,000 to the Breast Cancer Network of Strength®, an organization dedicated to ensuring no one faces breast cancer alone.

Fall Fashion: Plaid Is Back... Again!

Thursday, September 24, 2009 • Permalink •

Juicy Couture Tasseled Plaid Scarf
Juicy Couture Plaid Scarf

$78.00
Available at: juicycouture.com

Plaid is back in the game for fall and, with endless options and a variety of ways to wear this trend, it’s no wonder it’s back! Whether you wear it like Cher did in Clueless or like a Classic Ralph Lauren model, you can’t go wrong. Either way, I recommend you put your own spin on it. When wearing a plaid skirt don’t be afraid to pair it with some thick black leggings and a flirty ruffle shirt. I wouldn’t recommend going crazy in the jewelry department when wearing plaid-- I’d stick to the sophisticated side of it. But, if you have an edgy fashion sense, play it up with some layered bracelets or a bright bold ring.

My ultimate favorite thing about plaid is that you don’t have to be enrolled in school to be wearing it-- it’s suitable at any age! If you feel like wearing plaid is too uniform for you, try taking the baby steps with a plaid scarf or plaid shoes. With plaid accessories you can re-wear them year after year, because there’s proof that plaid works. There’s a reason school systems have adopted it for so many years.

L.A.M.B. Ruffle Plaid Belted Trench Coat
L.A.M.B. Ruffle Plaid Trench

$495.00
Available at: nordstrom.com

Easing into plaid with baby steps, I have the perfect accessory: a scarf! I have always worn plaid scarves, and I find them to be an adorable accent. It’s just enough to keep up with the trend, without feeling like a school girl. I usually go for the Burberry scarves, but I love this Juicy Couture Tasseled Plaid Scarf for $78! It’s affordable, and looks fun loving with the tassels. The black knotted tassels complement the cozy gray multi-colored plaid scarf. Coverage and warmth with lots of spunk-- love it!

Gearing towards the more serious sassy crowd, I’ve got just the item for you! Gwen Stefani is getting better with time, and especially with this L.A.M.B. Ruffle Plaid Belted Trench Coat. I love how it’s perfect for fall, it implements femininity with the added ruffles combined with the plaid, and the belt creates a cinch. But, hey, remember to personalize it with your own thick patent leather belt, and rock it sista!

For the middle road gals, I’ve got a cute no-pressure tunic that touches the spot just right. I liked it so much, I bought it! I like this purple plaid ECI Rosette Scoopneck Tunic because it’s very easy to dress up or down. You can wear it with leggings and ballerina flats or dress it up with some chunky patent leather pumps. The scoop neckline with the rosette trim, and triple-tiered hem with the solid black trim gives it some depth and lotsa style. Whether you do it up for an evening out with the girls, or dress it down with jeans for a movie night, you won’t go unnoticed by your local fashionistas.

New & Hot: Nanette Lepore "If You Leave" Jacket

Nanette Lepore If You Leave Jacket
Nanette Lepore "If You Leave" Jacket

$448.00
Available at: nordstrom.com

I have been transfixed by the color yellow. Seriously. It's not hard to see how it happened. Yellow has been such a hit color for the past few seasons, you pretty much have to be living under a rock to have not noticed that stores everywhere have slowly been filling with clothing in all shades of yellow. At first, I was skeptical. The lemon yellows that started showing up a couple Spring collections ago were a little too bright and cheery for me. But, as time passed, I fell in love with the sunshine color.

The new yellows are the best crop yet. In stores now are gorgeous golds and mustards, along with amazing acid yellow accessories that look just '80s enough when paired with basic black. I recently snagged a nouveau-classic Botkier Trigger handbag in yellow, which I adore, and now I'm ready to move on to a more serious yellow commitment. Like this new Nanette Lepore jacket.

The Nanette Lepore "If You Leave" Jacket is crafted from a felted wool blend and features asymmetrical ruffle detail and a nearly sculptural fit thanks to curved seams. But, the best part is the color-- rich gold that feels nearly neutral given the current yellow love-fest among American designers.

Fall Fashion: French Connection Deconstructed Sweater

French Connection Deconstructed Sweater
Deconstructed Sweater

$98.00
Available at: frenchconnection.com

As much as I love fashion, sometimes I just don't feel like pulling together an outfit. Being creative is not always easy. But, that doesn't mean I don't want to look fabulous. I just don't want to think about it. So, I'm always on the look out for pieces-- whether they be tops, bottoms or dresses-- that stand out all on their own. No accessories needed.

This Deconstructed Sweater from French Connection is definitely one of those pieces that can stand, and stand out, on its own. This wool blend short-sleeve sweater features a contrast block pattern, plus a fitted hem and slight ruching on the sleeves.

The overall look seems to me to be both ladylike on one hand and sporty on the other. Paired with an a-line skirt or skinny crops, this sweater would vibe gamine-- like a modern day Audrey Hepburn. With wide-leg jeans or a slim skirt and peep toe booties, this shirt would feel fashionable-sporty. And the best part? The impact of this chic sweater would almost be diminished by adding accessories. That means one-step dressing that still looks like a well thought out plan.

New & Hot: BR Monogram Embroidered Blouse

BR Monogram: BR Monogram silk embroidered blouse - Soft grey
BR Monogram Embroidered Blouse

$89.00
Available at: bananarepublic.com

Would you believe this gorgeous 100% silk blouse is from... Banana Republic? Yeah, me neither. I have nothing against BR. In fact, it was my first absolute go-to shopping destination when I joined the working world. But, I've never thought of Banana Republic as a place to hit up for fashions that mimic the runways. It's just not normally that kind of place. But, this BR Monogram Silk Embroidered Blouse has me floored. What a find!

High fashion for fall is dominated by greys and blacks, covered up and with drama to spare. Even Marc Jacobs's neon-infused show had some moody pieces thrown in with the '80s styling. This top fits the basic fall fashion story, but at a price that is insanely accessible compared to the gorgeous goods from the runways.

I'd pair this silk top with skinny black pants and super high ankle boots with a YSL vibe for a punky look, or trade out the pants for a pencil skirt and black tights for an even more fashion-forward look. At only $89, this top adds a whole lot of stand out style for the price.

Fall Fashion: J. Crew Necklace Tees

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 • Permalink •

--By Kim Moshtaghi

I get a lot of friends asking me to help them accessorize a simple outfit. And, for any other ladies relating to this predicament, there are some helpful shirts. J. Crew is carrying some lovely shirts that are embroidered and have crystals hanging from them, taking away time that would be spent on deciding what necklace to wear. These necklace tee shirts have enough spunk that you can avoid accessorizing alltogether. Sometimes making more decisions is too difficult after a long day. I’m here to tell you, you can rely on J.Crew’s beautifully delicate shirts to take the guess work out of accessorizing, and guarantee an adorable looking you! J.Crew’s necklace tees are casual enough to wear out to a movie, and can be appropriate under a blazer. These shirts are anything but boring, and nail the look to the T.

Nailing the look is a great way to describe the Slub Cotton Crystal Necklace Tee. It’s a casual tee with small to large crystals around the V-neckline of the tee that embellish the t-shirt beautifully. The shirt comes in light pewter and ivory-- both very soft feminine colors that go well with the heavy pattern. This shirt will come in very handy for the fall, especially with a bomber jacket and every other fall fashion worthy item.

This next tee is adorable! It actually looks like there’s a necklace attached to the shirt with a tie ribbon around the back. The Textured Jersey Ribboned Collier Tee is a scoop neck with a lot to look up to. It’s got an intricate beading and sequence design around the neck that comes down chandelier style. The combination of cotton and such an elaborate design off sets the look. This shirt also goes along with this fall's combination of luxury and casual for a spin on previous years.

For those who accessorize less, there is the toned down version of the necklace tee. J.Crew’s Scoop Neck Corsage Tee is a soft cotton tee, made extra delicate with its fine ribs and small trail of flowers over one side. It’s definitely something you don’t want to cover up with a jacket.

The final necklace tee is phenomenal, but pricey. If you can afford to splurge on this Tissue Stone Necklace Tee, I would. It’s an unbelievably stunning shirt! I never thought I’d say that about a t-shirt butI am! The shirt has big stones surrounded by rhinestones. I don’t think I’d even notice a huge pimple on a girl’s forehead if she wore this shirt around me.

AnnaLynne McCord wearing PRVCY Premium London Skinny Jeans
PRVCY London Skinny Jeans

$194.00
Available at: shoprumor.com

While I typically consider myself a fairly fearless fashionista, I'll admit I'm terrified of white jeans. I love how they look on other people, but I'm nearly positive that if I ever tried to wear white jeans I'd get them dirty within 15 minutes of pulling them on. But, still I'm tempted. A pair of wide-leg white jeans look so fresh in the summer sun and white skinnies-- so chic!

90210's AnnaLynne McCord, clearly a more fearless fashionista than I, was recently spotted sporting her skinny white jeans nearly all day long-- from the set of Regis & Kelly to the set of Alexa Chung, and everywhere in between. She's almost got me convinced that I might be able to pull off white jeans myself... if I avoid eating or sitting.

Want to steal AnnaLynne McCord's skinny white jeans style for yourself? She's wearing PRVCY London Skinny Jeans in white. These sleek PRVCY jeans, also recently spotted on Kim Kardashian, look perfect paired with everything from summer brights to more subdued charcoal and dove for fall. Are you brave enough to give white jeans a try? If so, these PRVCY jeans are showstoppers!

New & Hot: Kate Spade Clothing Debut Collection

Monday, September 21, 2009 • Permalink •

Yet another accessories designer is going the clothing line route and, once again, it appears to be a winning decision. Kate Spade has just debuted the Kate Spade Clothing Collection and it's adorable. Each piece is just as whimsical and girly as we've come to expect from Kate Spade, and each possesses an old-school ladylike charm that's nearly impossible to resist. I'm already counting my pennies, trying to decide which piece I'll be blowing what's left of my September clothing budget on. Check out my favorite front runners:

The Beacon Hill Ruffle Dress is a near perfect party dress for those soirees where a super sexy cocktail frock feels out of place, and can vibe super fashion-forward or simply girly-girl depending on your choice of accessories. For those days when you want to make an entrance, despite the chilly weather, the Madeline Mona Coat or the Bisous Stella Chubbie will get the job done quite nicely. And you know how the fashion glossies are always talking about how you really can wear sequins during the day? Yeah, I'm doubtful myself, but I think the Madeline Sequin Cardigan might actually be able to pull of that feat of sartorial wonder.

Kensie Space-Dyed Belted Boyfriend Cardigan Sweater
Kensie Space-Dyed Sweater

$60.99 (was $88-- save 31%!)
Available at: macys.com

Every Summer, I rejoice in the extra hours of sunlight, the warm breezes and of course, the days catching some rays at the beach. But then it whittles down and another fantastic season rolls through - Fall! It's time for coats, pants, deeper colors and boots! I couldn't be happier unless of course I lived in a place where I needed all of these items, but hey, I make do.

Kensie, the femme brand directed to the modern girl, is an amazing reference for fall pieces to add to your collection. With prints and layers, the Fall 2009 collection feeds off the bohemian, '40s and '80s looks to bring together well-styled looks. The creative team behind Kensie delves into collaborating with artists to inspire the looks of the collection to match the ultimate Kensie buyer. For this current season, Kensie worked with Parker Bossley, who co-wrote and sang the song "Pretty Mixed Up," which describes the line to a "T".

Head to Kensie.com to see the video for the song and get into the mood for some shopping at Macys or Dillard's amongst other places. Let the structure of the clothes that have that sort of cool, "I'm in the know" vibe take over your closet! I love the Space Dyed Sweater Dress, going for just $88! It's time to fall forward into warmer colors and clothes so start imagining your wardrobe themes now!

The Hunt for the Perfect Face Powder

Thursday, September 17, 2009 • Permalink •

Make Up For Ever Duo Mat Powder Foundation
Make Up For Ever Duo Mat Powder

$32.00
Available at: sephora.com

I recently ran out of my MAC Studio Fix powder and decided to go on a hunt for face coverage makeup before re-buying the same product. I wanted to gear away from MAC because of its reputation for clogging pores and, since I’m not on stage, its hard to justify wearing such heavy powder. I went to Sephora and a drugstore to compare and contrast different concealers, foundations and powders. It took me a couple weeks to test the products before I could narrow down my top three choices. My choices relied heavily on people’s reactions and, most importantly, the way the makeup felt on my skin and how my skin felt after I washed it off.

When I first walked into Sephora I thought I might get lost as usual, but I always end up loving my experience. The staff is so helpful there, and I have peace of mind knowing I can return anything if I’m dissatisfied. The employees are beyond and are always there to give an honest opinion. I tried all kinds of makeup and was beginning to get frustrated. All of the concealers were heavy, and made it look as if I were wearing a mask. I could feel and see little lines forming around my nose and chin from the makeup-- it wasn’t good! After a few disappointing attempts to find good products for my skin, I met Nadja, who was unbelievably knowledgeable and helpful. She took all the previously tested makeup off my skin, and recommended two products that made it home with me, and stayed home with me!

First she applied Laura Mercier Tinted Oil-Free Moisturizer because it’s very light and it has sun protection-- perfect for those with sensitive skin. Seriously, you’ll barely feel you have anything on! The tinted moisturizer also hydrates the skin without drying it out. Nadja instructed me to use less then penny-size on the face. This stuff goes a long way, and it’s not necessary to layer it on thick. The look is supposed to be a natural, everyday look.

Maybelline Mineral Power Starter Kit
Maybelline Mineral Power Starter Kit

$13.99
Available at: beauty.com

Nadja proceeded to try Make Up Forever Duo Mat Powder Foundation over the moisturizer because I told her how oily my forehead can get. The Duo Mat powder worked wonders! It lasted all day without looking oily or streaky. It definitely lived up to its long-lasting reputation. I liked the combination of the tinted moisturizer and Duo Mat powder; I recommend women with normal to combination skin to give it a try. I also got a lot of compliments from friends on the evenness of my skin.

When it came to sampling drugstore items I felt overwhelmed. There were so many options, and little time. I started off by buying a few items that I read about, a couple other foundations my friends and mom swore by. In the end, Maybelline topped the list for the best face cover-up makeup. Not only did it work well on my skin without making me break out, but it looked flawless. My favorite was both Maybelline Mineral Power foundations, in liquid and in loose powder form. The loose powder comes with a convenient little brush that you can easily travel with. When wearing Maybelline mineral foundation, I got the most compliments on my skin. It didn’t look like I was wearing makeup. I was very impressed by their product; I really didn’t expect something so economical to be so amazing.

I found a great Maybelline Mineral Power Starter Kit for $13.99. The kit contains a concealer to apply on imperfections and under the eye. The second item is Mineral Powder foundation with SPF 18 for complete coverage. Lastly, you get my favorite product, the loose powder Mineral Power finish. Wow-- that’s all I got to say! This stuff made my mother’s skin and mine flawless. I couldn’t believe how vibrant we instantly looked. It was as if we had a natural glow. This kit is totally worth it! I wouldn’t go another day without giving it a chance, if you haven’t already.

7 For All Mankind Gwenevere Pant

$185.00
Available at: blacklabelboutique.com

Ok, admit it, how psyched are you that Gossip Girl has returned? The best fashion on television is back for our weekly viewing pleasure. And, we got a Gossip Girl fashion triple delight this past week with the Gossip Girl premiere, New York Fashion Week, and the debut of the Gossip Girl-inspired Anna Sui for Target line all happening at the exact same time. It's bee a little overwhelming, but in a great way.

Gossip Girl starlet Jessica Szohr was spotted on the red carpet at the Anna Sui for Target debut party wearing fall perfect super skinny black pants and a belly-baring nearly backless top. I wasn't a big fan of Jessica's look when she first started working on GG, but she has grown into her fashion icon status quite well. Her style is punky-chic and she might just might have the most beautiful face of the cast members, which is always a great accessory. She rocked both her fashion and her beauty well at the Anna Sui for Target launch party... wouldn't you agree?

Want to steal a little bit of Jessica Szohr's Anna Sui party style for yourself? She's wearing the 7 For All Mankind Gwenevere Super Skinny Knit Pant. These ankle-length pants are a perfect option for those days when jeans are just a little to casual, but a cocktail dress would be over-the-top. A new arrival at Black Label Boutique, these slim pants are currently available in all sizes 24 to 30.

Fall Fashion: The Leather Jacket

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 • Permalink •

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Tory Burch Annabel Ruffle Leather Jacket
Tory Burch "Annabel" Jacket

$850.00
Available at: nordstrom.com

There is nothing better than a cool leather jacket to get you through fall and winter with major attitude and style. There are so many great jackets out there waiting to be snagged. I know a leather jacket can cost a lot, but remember it wears well and it will last you a lifetime. I succeeded in finding three different leather jackets at different price points. But, honestly I’ve spent $100-$600 on leather jackets, but I wear my expensive one the most and I’ve had it the longest. That may not always be the case, but my point is that going cheap now may not be beneficial later. Go for steals, and you’ll feel satisfied.

The best way to utilize a leather jacket is to use it to balance a girly feminine dress. It brings out the edgy rocker in some outfits and polishes off a pant look. I’ve always been fascinated by the power and presence of leather jackets, there isn’t anything else like it! So, take it upon yourself to pick out a fall dress with bright colors, pair it with a chunky necklace and cover it up with a leather jacket to roughen up “the little miss innocent” image. And, you wonder why leather is associated with Bikers-- Duh!

Calvin Klein Petite Jacket Faux-Leather Bomber
Calvin Klein Petite Bomber Jacket

$129.00
Available at: macys.com

My Feature straight from Nordstrom.com is easing into the edgy leather look. This is as calm and as girly leather gets! Tory Burch nailed it with this ruffle leather jacket named “Annabel.” –I can’t think of a more suitable name. The buttery soft leather goes well with the goody good image, and will surely have you or someone else rubbing on it for soft and tender feeling. The ruffles give it a shirt-like look, and the leather gives it a slightly more serious look.

For the trend-following sassy gals, I think you should focus on one of the most popular trends this fall, the bomber jacket. Calvin Klein has a faux-leather Petite Black Bomber jacket at Macy’s. The jacket fits the image perfectly: ribbed stand-up collar, long sleeves, and flap patch pockets. This is a fun jacket to be creative with. Get crazy with a pair of tights, or tight white pants, throw it over some ripped denim, and strut around with a smirk. You’ve got to play the role well.

My last feature is stunning. The Marc New York Leather Motorcycle Jacket reminds me of my favorite slouchy boots I featured last week, the color is in the same family. This motorcycle jacket is great for ladies who love to wear pants. I love motorcycle jackets with slacks for a night out-- I think it looks so contradictory, so exciting!

FOUND: Jennifer Aniston's Skinny Straight Jeans

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 • Permalink •

What is it about Jennifer Aniston that fascinates us all so much? Sure, she's gorgeous. And successful. She followed a big time television career with a string of hit movies. Oh, and she's had a few of the hottest men in Hollywood on her arm. But, what I really think pulls us all towards her is the fact that she comes across as so down to earth-- like the best friend you grew up with, only just a little bit more glamorous.

Our girl Jennifer even dresses like a glammy everywoman. Jeans and tees are the staple outfit, just with a little extra punch. Slim fits, designer cuts, and luxe fabrics are all in heavy rotation. A favorite wardrobe essential for Jennifer? Her Hudson Jeans "Carly" Skinny Straight Jeans. Just check out these photos of Jen rocking her Hudsons:

New & Hot: Rebecca Minkoff Apparel

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 • Permalink •

Some labels do apparel. Some do accessories. Some attempt to do both. But rarely does a label do both well. So, when I heard that Rebecca Minkoff-- maker of my next great handbag love-- had moved into clothing, I wanted to cry. I didn't want to see the Rebecca Minkoff label become the laughing stock of the mid-priced fashion world. Moving from a super successful handbag line to clothing can do that to a label. But, this may actually turn out to be a smart move. The new Rebecca Minkoff apparel has just hit the stores and it's not at all a disaster. In fact, there are several pieces that I wouldn't mind snapping up for myself.

The Polka Dots Dylan Blouse is sleek and ladylike, and super chic thanks to a 100% silk georgette construction. It's a perfect foil to fall's rugged, punk styling. The Double Breasted Leather Coat is ah-mazing. It has some weight to it, and the shearling lining is super lush. It looks great with jeans, but I'd also try pairing it with a pencil skirt and super high heels to make an entrance. So, does the new Rebecca Minkoff clothing line pass your test? Check out some of my favorite looks from the new line and judge for yourself...

New & Hot: Hussein Chalayan for J Brand

Monday, September 14, 2009 • Permalink •

Once upon a time the designer collaboration was an occasional event, newsworthy just because it happened. Nowadays, the designer collaboration is practically an everyday occurrence and the real measure of newsworthiness is the relative fabulousness of the end product. Even with the bar set high by the amazing high-low collaborations of late, the new Hussein Chalayan for J Brand line is worth every drop of good press.

London-based designer Hussein Chalayan is known for supremely avant-garde designs-- we're talking the kind of stuff that belongs in an art installation rather than on the street. That kind of creativity makes for stunning shows and breathtaking editorial layouts, but not particularly wearable designs for the everyday fashionista. That's what makes the new Hussein Chalayan for J Brand line so fabulous-- it's high fashion that we can wear every day.

J Brand Hussein Chalayan Legging Jean
The Legging

J Brand Hussein Chalayan Circuit Low Rise Zipper Skinny Jean
The Circuit

$258.00
Available at: singer22.com

J Brand Hussein Chalayan Boyfriend Jean
The Beau

$246.00
Available at: singer22.com

The mini-collection contains just three extremely well-thought-out pieces: The Legging, a super skinny jean with curved side seam; The Circuit, an ankle zip skinny with moto styling; and The Beau, a straight-leg boyfriend jean. All three are really stunning in their own way, but I'm leaning toward The Circuit for its super fashion-forward look. Whichever you prefer, I'd jump on this designer collab soon-- something tells me this is one of those lines that will disappear quick, leaving everyone wishing they would have snapped up a pair while they still could.

$50 Off Isaac Mizrahi for Liz Claiborne & How To Spend It

Monday, September 14, 2009 • Permalink •

Liz Claiborne MULTI-PLAID RUCHED CROSSOVER DRESS
Multi-Plaid Crossover Dress

$189.00
Available at: lizclaiborne.com

When most women under the age of 50 think about the Liz Claiborne label, they imagine fashions that are better suited for a women who is, well, over 50. Too young to remember Liz Claiborne's beginnings as a revolutionary label that changed the way women shopped for clothing, all we remember of Liz is the frump that landed the label in discount department stores in the '90s. But, times are changing at Liz Claiborne.

Now designed by fashion superstar Isaac Mizrahi, who debuted his first Liz Claiborne collection in Spring 2009, the label is suddenly chic again. A quick glance at the fall offerings turns up all of the major trends, re-worked for a woman who works for a living, and super affordably priced. I know, you're still doubtful. It is hard to change perceptions of a label that hasn't been youthful since its youth. Here's your chance to get a new taste of Liz Claiborne for less.

Liz Claiborne Stretch Ponte 3/4-Sleeve Scarf Collar Coat
Scarf Collar Coat

$199.00
Available at: lizclaiborne.com

Monday, September 14, through Sunday, September 20, Liz Claiborne is offering $50 off all full-priced purchases of $150 or more or $20 off full-priced purchases of $100 or more. Plus, you'll get Free Shipping on your entire order. There's no better time to dip your toe back into Liz Claiborne, or try the label for the first time.

Wondering what to try first? I'd start with the Multi-Plaid Ruched Crossover Dress [top left]. This new dress, which showcases the fall plaid trend, has been a favorite of fashion editors, most recently appearing in People StyleWatch Magazine. If outerwear is on your to-buy list, you can't go wrong with the Stretch Ponte 3/4-Sleeve Scarf Collar Coat [right], which was recently featured in Bazaar. The Bonded Cotton Double-Breasted Coat ($199.00) offers another classic take on outerwear, kicked up a notch with the addition of a cheetah-print lining.

Liz Claiborne Dandelion Plaid Poplin Crossover Blouse
Dandelion Plaid Blouse

$69.00
Available at: lizclaiborne.com

Also worthy of a second look are the ladylike tops Liz Claiborne is offering for fall. Standouts include the Voile Daisy-Print Blouse in sunshine yellow (on sale for $22.99) and the Chintz Sateen Leaf-Print Tie-Front Blouse ($79.00), which makes fall's dark floral trend super wearable for even professional offices. But, my favorite is the Dandelion Plaid Poplin Crossover Blouse [left], which brilliantly fuses Liz Claiborne's accessibility with Isaac Mizrahi's sense of of whimsy and talent for high-fashion.

I could go on for days about favorite pieces from Isaac Mizrahi's revamped Liz Claiborne. There are easily 20 pieces I'd welcome into my wardrobe right this minute. If you haven't checked out Liz Claiborne lately, it's 100% worth your time to do just that. Remember, you can score $20 off $100 or $50 off $150, plus Free Shipping through Sunday, September 20. Top 10 Colors for Spring 2010 Announced #NYFW

Monday, September 14, 2009 • Permalink •

--By Jules Newmark

It's official ladies, the colors are out... for Spring 2010. Over here on the West Coast, it's nowhere near time to switch over to the fall wardrobe with temperatures still in the 80s, but of course, there's always looking ahead!

Every season there is an analysis put out of the top Pantone colors that were chosen by designers for their new collections. “The vibrancy of the top five colors [for women] — versus the neutrals we see toward the bottom of the ranking — show that designers are choosing optimism for the season,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, which disclosed the top 10 colors chosen by New York designers in the Pantone Fashion Color Report Spring 2010.

Pantone Fashion Color Report Spring 2010

With the recession still in effect, designers are still hunting for ways to make customers feel expensive for lower prices. The colors for next Spring definitely will add to wardrobe as we choose key pieces to spruce up our trendiness. What are the colors you ask? Well, let's start with the top color, Violet... purple is a power color after all. More colors going down the list of the percentage of designers who used the colors the most in their new collections are: Aurora (yellow), Turquoise, Fusion Coral, Tomato Puree, Tuscany, through Pink Champagne and Eucalyptus.

The bright colors will definitely be show stopping pieces I'm sure... I'm seeing myself in a turquoise fitted suit now... back to reality - head to WWD.com now to check out the Pantone colors for women and of course, see the menswear choices as well so you can be coordinated with your lover for Spring... nothing beats a picnic in style!

How To: Get A Good Night's Sleep

Friday, September 11, 2009 • Permalink •

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Pillow Mist Lavender Chamomile
Bath & Body Works Pillow Mist

$3.50
Available at: bathandbodyworks.com

I’ve been having trouble sleeping in the heat. Without some guidance from a doctor and products that make sleeping effortless, I wouldn’t be smiling in the mornings.

Before I get into the fabulous products that help me keep sane during the work week, I will go over some tips that really help me keep my bedroom a great place for sleeping and a relaxing place to be. First, I decided to never let my laptop go near my bed because of the obvious distraction. If you have a lit up desktop in your room, move it now. Having a computer handy when trying to relax is too tempting, especially if you are workaholic.

Another big issue is eating before trying to sleep! Eating a big meal right before bedtime is an awful idea-- you’ll be burping up a storm, and thinking about the calories you ate. Try eating 2-3 hours before bedtime. My friend told me once, “eat breakfast with yourself, lunch with your friend, and dinner with an enemy.” It’s not just beneficial to avoid a big dinner for sleeping purposes, but it’s also much healthier.

Exercising before bed time is also a no-no! An hour before bedtime you should allow yourself to relax and wind down from the day in order to sleep like a baby. Common sense prevails when it comes to before bedtime activities. But, for those of you who, like me, who have followed the simple rules and still can’t sleep, help is a click away.

Celestial Seasonings - Herb Tea Sleepytime
Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Tea

$5.44
Available at: amazon.com

My first product is from Bath and Body Works sleep line. Bath and Body Works has an entire sleep line to aid in soothing the mind, body and soul. These products are definitely a nicer way to transition into dream land, better than counting sheep. The small Bath and Body Works 1 oz. Pillow Mist is perfect for trying the product out, and traveling with it. The spray is chamomile and lavender. The combination of both oils soothes and calms you, to help shut your eyes. To use properly and effectively, spray the mist over pillow and sheets. When fabric dries, get your booty in bed and do some breathing exercises to relax your mind and body.

Before getting into bed, perhaps while you are waiting for the mist to dry, use the Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy lotion to really enhance your sleep. The milk and honey lotion hydrates the skin, so you’ll not just sleep like a baby, but you’ll also be as soft as one.

I’m going a little backwards here… so, before the lotion and pillow mist, I highly suggest drinking some non-caffeinated Sleepytime tea. This tea with the huggable bear picture on the box is wonderful! It actually works! It doesn’t taste bad, and every sip does help me de-stress. The key ingredients are chamomile, spearmint, and West Indian lemongrass. This lovely blend makes you want to spray your pillow and rub on some lotion, so you can wake up feeling like a million bucks!
