Unless you've been avoiding all forms of news coverage for the past week or so, you know that tis the season for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala. Sometimes referred to as the "Oscars of the fashion world," the Met Costume Institute Gala really is the see-and-be-seen fashion event of the season. The Gala also kicks off a new season for the Met's Costume Institute's themed exhibit. The theme for this year's Gala and exhibit is American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity.

The exhibit, which is scheduled to be on display from May 5 to August 15, explores the perceptions of the American woman from 1890 to 1940. As sponsor of the exhibit, Gap was very involved in the Gala-- from Gap EVP Patrick Robinson co-chairing the event, to Gap co-creating amazing gowns for several of the attendees. Gap is also taking a leading role in promoting and celebrating the exhibit by creating a limited edition line of tee shirts that support the exhibit's theme.

The Gap American Woman Tees each celebrate a classic female identity from the eras captured by the exhibit. Tees include The Gibson Girl, The Heiress, The Suffragist and The Screen Siren. The tees are priced from $34.50 to $44.50 and are only available for a limited time online and in select Gap stores.
