Katie Holmes: Style You Can Count On

Tuesday, June 05, 2012

Do you have a celebrity fashion muse? An influencer who you rely on to get the best fashion and style inspiration? Last month I shared my go-to celebrity style muse: Olivia Palermo. I talked about four fashion lessons I've learned from following Olivia's sartorial choices, and why I turn to her again and again to get inspired. Now I'd like to share another of my celebrity style favorites: Katie Holmes.

Katie wasn't always a fashionista. Back in her Dawson's Creek days, Katie was a jeans and a sweatshirt kind of girl. But, she's become quite the stylish celeb in adulthood. She's even co-founded a high-end clothing label: Holmes & Yang. Katie really has become a go-to source for style. You can rely on the fact that there will always be something about her outfit that you'll want to incorporate into your own wardrobe.

I've definitely picked up a few style lessons from Katie over the years. Here are a few of my favorites:

1. Be a jean queen. A wardrobe of standout jeans will never, ever fail you.

2. Black on black outfits don't have to be boring. Just make sure you get the proportion and texture right.

3. Solid colors, when used in a dramatic way, will form the foundation of a classic look.

4. Sometimes your hair is your best accessory.

What do you think? Have you incorporated one of these little style lessons into your wardrobe already? Who is your go-to fashion inspiration? Let me know in the comments.
