Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream & Lash Potion Mascara: New Products on the Block

Friday, June 14, 2013

Does the change in seasons make you crave a little change in your beauty routine? Don’t worry, the cosmetics companies have your back. Fun new products are popping up all over. In fact, so many that it’s hard to decide what to try first. Here are two more options to add to your must-try list.

Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream

By now I’m sure you’ve heard about Beauty Balm creams. These multi-tasking wonders that originated in the always cutting-edge Asian market combine prep work, coverage, and skin care functionality into a single-step product. With a little more coverage than tinted moisturizers, but a more lightweight feel than traditional bottle foundations, BB creams are perfect for your summer beauty routine.

Revlon’s new PhotoReady BB moisturizes, smooths your face like a primer, has foundation-like coverage, and incorporates a summer-must SPF 30 sun protection. If you want a little more coverage, say for a special event, you can use this BB as an additive product right along with your foundation. Check out this video for more tips:

Bonus Secret Weapon: To add a little more dewiness and skin-perfecting oomph to your BB routine, mix a bit of cream highlighter with a lightweight moisturizer between your fingers and then apply all over your face. Wait a couple minutes for the moisturizer to sink in, then apply your BB cream over top. The subtle glow of the highlighter will come through in a completely daytime-appropriate way, making your skin look luminous.

Revlon Lash Potion Mascara

If long, feather-like lashes is your wish, consider it granted with this new mascara. Revlon’s Lash Potion Mascara offers a “volume + length” formula and a densely packed brush for clump-free application, resulting in long lashes that are perfectly separated.

I got the chance to test out this new mascara and I was more than pleased. Although I’ve been on a department store mascara high for years, Lash Potion didn’t disappoint in the least.

The brush’s bristles are significantly more densely packed than the three pricey mascaras I keep in regular rotation. The result? This mascara really, legitimately went on clump free. I’m obsessive about using a metal comb to separate my lashes after mascara application, but that step was unnecessary with Lash Potion.

Two coats of this new Revlon mascara lasted all day, with zero flaking and only one tiny smudge that happened early in the day (I’m writing it off as too much oily eye cream, which is never good for mascara longevity).

Bonus Secret Weapon: For an amazing stand-out lash look for evening, curl lashes then add a single coat of your favorite mascara. While the first coat is still wet, lightly dust lashes with face powder using a small eyeshadow brush. Wait a couple minutes for lashes to fully dry, then add a second coat of mascara. You’ll get a super voluminous false-lashes look, similar to using a lash primer, but without having to keep an extra super-perishable beauty product laying around.
