New & Hot: James Perse Malibu Limited Edition Tees

James Perse Malibu Beach Tee
James Perse Malibu Tee

$55.00
Available at: jamesperse.com

As much as I love the Bay Area-- the culture of SF, the energy of Silicon Valley-- I do get nostalgic for SoCal every once in a while. The beach culture, while not necessarily my natural habitat, has a draw that is impossible to resist. During my short time as an inhabitant of Los Angeles, I could be found at, or very near, the beach almost every day. There is a history to SoCal beach life that is just as rich and colorful as any place in the States, and perhaps even more inclusive and welcoming.

This new, Limited Edition tee line from SoCal's own James Perse celebrates the iconic beaches that make Malibu special. This line of super soft 100% cotton tees feature James Perse's Malibu Beach print on the back-- the back is shown in this picture. The line includes the short sleeve tee pictured here, plus a long-sleeve v-neck, a racer back tank and a long-sleeve jewel neck. All of the designs are available in a range of colors, from Dandelion Yellow and Rio Orange to Navy and Black. A little piece of SoCal beach life to wear around with you every day, even if you live nowhere near the beach.

Review: Givenchy Mister Mat Foundation Primer

Givenchy Mister Mat Foundation Primer
Givenchy Mister Mat Primer

$30.00
Available at: sephora.com

Smoother skin, longer lasting foundation, and effortlessly matte skin. A pretty lofty promise for any skincare regimen, but all wrapped up in one product? Sounds almost too good to be true. But, that's exactly what the newest product from Givenchy aims to accomplish.

Givenchy Mister Mat Mattifying Foundation Primer is a skin primer that can be used alone or under makeup. Mister Mat contains ingredients that are designed to both soften and hydrate skin, and work to control sebum production. But, does it really work? Two Stiletto Jungle contributors took Mister Mat for a test drive to see if it would live up to the hype.

"I never knew the benefits of using foundation primer until I got the opportunity to review this product. This primer has a fabulous non-greasy texture that makes if very easy to apply all over my face. As I am spreading it around, it seems to naturally blend into my skin, giving it a fresh, non-oily feeling. It is definitely 'mattifying.' It's non-sticky and oddly it made it very comfortable to use liquid foundation. Throughout the day, I noticed that the usual shine I get decreased. Thanks to my great experience with this product, I don't think I would use liquid foundation without primer again."
-- Po C., Merced, California

"I love, love, loved my Givenchy Mister Mat. Not only did it even out my skin tone but it made my face feel like satin. My makeup lasted all day with no touch ups needed and it appeared to have reduced some fine lines. I have normal to dry skin and it did not dry my skin out the way I thought it might. I enjoyed this product so much that I went to Sephora and bought it. Thank you Stiletto for a new and much needed product."

While browsing for new deals I ran across this fun little Quicksilver Bordeaux Jacket and totally fell in love. Review: Batiste Blush Dry Shampoo

Batiste Blush Dry Shampoo
Batiste Blush Dry Shampoo

$7.29
Available at: sallybeauty.com

I have been looking for a dry hair shampoo for a long time. Having curly hair, which I always straighten, I try to wash my hair less to prevent damage. So, I experimented with the Batiste Blush Dry Shampoo to see if it would really accomplish what dry hair shampoos promise.

I usually wash my hair every other day because of the greasiness that occurs in my bangs. But, after using the Batiste Dry Hair Shampoo I wash it every 4th day! This stuff was amazing! You get the bottle shake it well, and spray it on, or around, your roots, and then you get a small fine comb and comb the white residue in. The white residue disappears--voila!

I love the fact that it smells really fresh and clean. I definitely recommend this dry hair shampoo to everyone. Not only did it remove the grease, but it also made my hair shiny and soft. The Batiste Blush Dry Shampoo has everything your hair needs in one bottle.

BlackSocks Sock Subscription Service
Now most of the things I bring to your attention every week are typically fashion/beauty oriented with a bit of commentary or life judgement for a cherry on top. This week, I'm going back to basics. I mean really basic, starting with your feet. Or, at least the cloth that covers them - socks!

How often do you go shopping with socks in mind? I do frequently hunt for great tube socks to do a funky look with shorts and converse, but let's get real - no one hits up the nearest mall for socks, but everyone needs them. Well BlackSocks.com has come from Europe to the rescue for all inquiring feet. This ultimate luxury-type service, "Sockscription" has launched in North America and offers 9 high quality pairs of socks a year for just $89!

With options ranging from knee socks to athletic or ski socks, you get three pairs of socks every four months and don't have to worry about your precious tootsies again! With the backing of nine years of success in Europe, it's time Americans had this exclusive right - to be a member of a sock club! Looks like you can buy a couple new pairs of Converse, boots and running shoes - stiletto adorned feet need not apply!

While living in San Diego, home of incredibly temperate summers, I got in the habit of escaping to the iconic Biltmore Resort in Arizona for a few days of good old fashioned sweltering sun each summer. There is something about the Biltmore experience-- from lunch in the cabanas, to sunset smores, to the on-site Lilly Pulitzer Signature Store-- that is like tying up the most perfect summer imaginable with a big pink bow. Thanks to summers at the Biltmore, I still associate Lilly Pulitzer clothing with an idyllic summer experience.

If you also get a craving for a little Lilly Pulitzer every time summer rolls around, this new sale is going to make you smile. Online outlet SmartBargains currently has a nice sized selection of 29 Lilly Pulitzer fashions, each marked 60-75% off. My pick of the pack is this sweet Gibson Lillys Silk Top. It's bright and summery, and more chic than preppy. I'd pair it with wide-leg white trousers and espadrilles for an outdoor party or lunch with the girls on a sunny day.

Invest in... A Chic Mirror for Your Home

Crate and Barrel Harlow Mirror
Crate and Barrel Harlow Mirror

$199.99 (was $299-- save 33%!)
Available at: crateandbarrel.com

Mirrors can do a lot to a place… and take a lot from a place. Being in the furniture business for seven years, I bought some amazing mirrors that have livened up my home and have brought nothing but great positive reflection. And the best part is that they helped broaden the smaller spaces in my home. Mirrors represent different meaning depending on the culture or individual belief, but overall they can reflect and broaden spaces, making rooms look bigger or smaller, and they also can make images appear closer. Every home should have a mirror in the appropriate space to serve a purpose besides being able to check yourself out in it before you leave the house. There are many different sizes and shapes of mirrors to consider, but there are three I have found to serve multi-purposes.

The first mirror I found is from Crate and Barrel, which always has wonderful things that will make a difference in your home. This Harlow Mirror looks like a million bucks! I love the gold finish on this mirror. The shape is great because it will look good on a smaller wall space, or in a bathroom for your own personal touch, as opposed to the standard rectangular mirrors. Using two of these in a master bath and one over the vanity will look wonderful! Sometimes keeping it consistent in one room with matching frames can look great, unless you go overboard, which can be overwhelming. The frame is what sells the mirror.

Silver Leaf Wall Mirror
Silver Leaf Wall Mirror

$369.00 (was $469-- save 21%!)
Available at: macys.com

Secondly, I found an inexpensive modern, fun mirror. This Emile Wengé Wood 5-Up Collage Mirror would be a great mirror to hang over the coach or to place on the side wall next to a small stairway. It is actually 5 little mirrors in that are placed next to one another. There is a thick wood frame design around the mirrors that is a dark espresso color-- almost black. It is a versatile mirror that can be hung horizontally or vertically. There are a lot of creative ways to utilize the mirror to its fullest potential. I noticed one of the reviewers put it behind a bar, which sounds fabulous. This mirror is contemporary, and for the price is perfect!

Now, for the icing on the cake, I have a stunning large mirror. I found this Silver Leaf Wall Mirror at Macys.com. I love the silver leaf finish and the size allows it to broaden the special feel of a room, and really make a statement. The finish makes it compatible and able to blend with most furniture. The largeness of the mirror helps when placed at the end of a hallway or in your bedroom as a way to check yourself out-- head to toe-- before you leave the house and vamp up your room with a sassy silver leaf mirror. Personally, I have my large mirror in my room leaned up against the wall and it looks great!

Mirrors capture moments when we are taking an honest look at ourselves-- we just need to be proud of the image that we see.

When I think of perfect work appropriate labels that are also ultra chic, I automatically think Theory. From their fabulous pants to their super slim sweaters and dress shirts, Theory is pretty much the expert at flattering work clothes. In fact, I wore a Theory "Aniston" dress shirt to work just yesterday! If you're a fellow member of the Theory fan club, you're going to love this.

Nordstrom.com just added 11 new Theory items to their sale section and each piece is marked 40% off retail price. The selection includes pants, skirts, dresses, sweaters and refined tees. It's a hard call, but my pick of the pack is this Theory "Liddita Tailor" Skirt. Sure, it's not the flashiest of the sale items-- there's a pixelated floral dress that's to die for-- but it just feels like a must buy. The inverted pleats are preppy-chic in a very Blair Waldorf kind of way and the slightly exaggerated a-line silhouette is fashiony without feeling too outrageous for even a very conservative workplace. It's perfect for pairing with a crisp button down for spring.

New & Hot: IdealHeel High Heel Protectors

IdealHeel High Heel Protectors
IdealHeel Heel Protectors

$19.95
Available at: idealheel.com

The thing I hate most about expensive heels is the upkeep. It seems the cheapest pairs I buy turn out being the longest lasting and the ones in least need of care. What's up with that? Spend $500, save $0 over time because you have to repaint the entire heel, purchase new insoles or get new rubber pieces for the heels constantly at of course the best place in town because they were expensive!

Well, someone genius has come along and saved your stiletto heel at least! Called the IdealHeel Accessory, this smart and stylish guard slips right onto your heel and comes in a variety of colors. At first I was very concerned about the color and how it might clash with my Gucci stilettos - not very many things go perfectly with that classic red and green. But never fear, a black IdealHeel is to the rescue and will get you through the grass or grates on the sidewalk. The rubber piece is a perfect cover up for those white leather heels in the summer time or snakeskin beauties and extend the life of your precious shoes so that the cobbler down the street doesn't have to. Go to IdealHeel.com and check out the product for yourself for $19.95 per pair.

Oddly enough, a man contributed to the saving of shoes... now that's a man we want to talk to! John and Michelle Patterson are a husband and wife design team of Fiumicino who came up with this fantastic idea to avoid "high heel headaches" as they call them and truly have created an amazing product. I'm off to stand on sidewalk grates in my stilettos... with IdealHeels of course!

Frye Vanessa Softie Sandals
Frye "Vanessa" Sandals

$158.00
Available at: shopbop.com

I hate flats. I only wear them when the situation absolutely requires it. Day-long jaunts through the City. Driving for more than an hour. Airplane rides of more than three hours. I have my list of flats-appropriate situations down to a science. But, I may make an exception for these adorably chic Frye "Vanessa Softie" Sandals.

These brand new ankle-strap flat sandals are available in five summery colors, including the Seafoam blue pictured here. The distressed pebbled leather looks just as squishy soft as the name implies-- perfect for the aforementioned City walks-- and the silhouette is more French girl chic than orthopedic flats. Perfect.

Invest In... A Standout Cocktail Ring

Carolee Lux Mediterranean Nights Star Ring
Carolee Lux Mediterranean Nights Ring

$75.00
Available at: bloomingdales.com icon

Cocktail rings have always been an eye opener for me. There are the good and the bad-- my job is to make sure you choose a cocktail ring that isn’t an eyesore. I always admire the older sophisticated ladies who pull off the cocktail ring with so much glam-- e.g., Elizabeth Taylor. So, this is dedicated to all the classy cocktail ring wearing grandmas who have paved the way, and created the unwritten rules of wearing a cocktail ring with a humble attitude. There are the real jeweled cocktail rings, but I’m not going there! I have found some fun costume jewelry cocktail rings to showcase that will spark a conversation for sure!

My first cocktail ring find is amazing. I just think it’s absolutely beautiful and stunning to see a lady wearing bold turquoise, and that’s exactly what this cocktail ring is! This Carolee Lux "Mediterranean Nights" Star Ring is fun and affordable. The combination of turquoise, pearls, and clear crystals is wonderful. Being turquoise it stands out, but it’s also a color that will brighten up your day and the day of anyone else glancing at this ring. The color is vibrant and will look delightful along with earth tones. How could you go wrong?

Juicy Couture Coral Flower Cluster Ring
Juicy Couture Coral Flower Ring

$98.00
Available at: nordstrom.com

Next up, I found a much admired topaz ring. This ABS by Allen Schwartz Topaz-Hued Crystal Ring is unbelievably classy for a cocktail ring. This topaz-hued crystal ring is big and obnoxious, but easy on the eyes. The color balances the ring out, creating a softer look. It will go with anything and definitely start a conversation… or leave someone speechless. I think it’s a clean, clear design that will be a nice staple in an accessory collection.

Lastly, I want to highlight this fun Juicy Couture Coral Flower Cluster Ring. It’s simply gorgeous, and detailed. With so much detail, the ring is still glamorous-- and not too cluttered. The coral cluster is livened up by the cute butterfly resting on the coral beads and glittery stones. This will go great with bright colors, and will be a favorite in the spring and summer months. It is the more of a day time, less formal ring out of the three rings. It’s a soft feminine design that will look nice with a summer dress. Anything that reminds me of the warm months ahead is always a winner.

Now it’s time to get in touch with your inner Elizabeth Taylor side and rock one of these rings.

It's no secret that I have a soft spot for Milly dresses, particularly sale-priced Milly dresses. So, it's no wonder that this Milly Gathered Silk Sheath dress is my pick for super sale item of the day.

This chic dress is perfect for wearing to spring weddings and get togethers. I'd pair is with open-toe shoes-- perhaps classic peep-toe Louboutins-- and a bright clutch. It's nearly impossible to tell from this photo, or even the standard size product photo, but if you click through and then zoom in... there is some amazing pleating detail along the neckline, which creates a gorgeous drape in the bodice. This stunning dress is a serious steal.

As I mentioned in my previous post, over packing is the number one mistake when traveling. It is too easy to throw a bunch of things in a suitcase and feel like you have gotten the job done... until you reach your destination and realize you have nothing substantial to wear. It happens to me all the time. Just last week I went on a business trip to St. Louis and all I concentrated on packing was accessories-- it was crazy! I had two pencil skirts and a bunch of useless tops that I had to wear and get by with for 5 days! It was awful.

Meanwhile, I have researched and promised myself that the next trip-- next week-- will go much smoother. So, the obvious helpful hint is to make a list, but it is also important to pack clothes that are appropriate, yet low maintenance. Wrinkle resistant clothes are low maintenance because they avoid having to iron on a business trip, which can be a drag, especially if you are on a constant time crunch.

Clothing that can be mixed and matched is the best way to pack when traveling for any occasion. Darker colors, such as navy and black, and earth tones are great because they go with one another, creating multiple outfits from a few pieces of clothing. This keeps your luggage light and simple.

First and foremost, it’s smart and beneficial to travel with a pair of thick leggings. It’s great because they can be worn underneath a large sweater or cardigan while on the plane to keep you warm and comfy. They always come in handy when traveling, especially if you want to wear them out underneath a skirt or while working out. Leggings, like these Banana Republic Knit Leggings, are very versatile and useful-- that’s why they are perfect for travel.

Secondly, I always like to have a loose fitting classy cardigan to wear with my pencil skirts or leggings, or just over a nice business appropriate dress. A plain loose fitting cardigan in a dark color is helpful because you will end up wearing it a couple of times with different things. Plus, it creates a polished sophisticated look, while keeping you warm. I spotted a nice black v-neck boyfriend cardigan from Macys. This Style&co. Boyfriend Cardigan is made from a lightweight material, with front buttons and patch pockets. The buttons and pockets add some style, without taking away from its versatility. It will hardly take up space in your luggage, which is great.

Lastly, I found an adorable, wrinkle resistant Split Neck Ponte Knit Dress from Calvin Klein. I love it because its business appropriate and won’t need to be ironed. The dress comes in black and white. I obviously recommend the black for travel, but the white is very nice! The dress has some pleating in the front, giving it a fashion flare. According to the site, the dress tends to run larger around the bust, so watch out for that and order the appropriate size.
