New & Hot: Herve Leger Signature Essentials

Monday, August 31, 2009

Like all fashionistas, I consider a Herve Leger dress a wardrobe must-have. Similar to a Burberry trench or a pair of black Christian Louboutin peep toe platforms, a Herve Leger bandage dress stands the test of time and is always on point.

That being said, I don't have a Herve Leger bandage dress in my closet yet. Frankly, since joining the post-grad school world, I don't go to a lot of places that can handle a Herve Leger dress. And, clocking in at $1500+, the average Herve Leger cocktail frock is beyond my "buy it just to have it" budget. Sad, I know.

It seems that the team at Herve Leger have clued into the fact that a slightly more affordable version of their classic styles would go over well. The Herve Leger Essentials collection is considerably more affordable than the runway pieces, but doesn't compromise any of the Herve Leger style. Yes, you can have your Herve Leger bandage dress... and eat something beyond ramen this month too!

Check out a few of my favorite Herve Leger Essentials dresses below. I'm partial to the City dress. This banded, fitted dress is 100% classic Herve Leger, but with a manageable price tag. True investment dressing, but without the actual investment. I'll take it.

FOUND: Katie Holmes's Button Up Blouse

LnA Jersey Button up Blouse as seen on Katie Holmes
LnA Button Up Blouse

$121.00
Available at: blacklabelboutique.com

Katie Holmes has come so far, so fast... in so many ways. Not the least of which is her personal style. I was as big of a Dawson's Creek fan as anyone back in the day, but now I hardly ever think Joey Potter when I see Katie. She went from wholesome, if slightly frumpy, girl next door to trendsetting global fashionista overnight. Even when Katie Holmes is going super casual, kid on hip, she looks incredibly well put together and fashionable. Love it.

A great example of Katie going casual-chic is this picture of her in full on mommy mode. Sure, she's wearing a white tee-- the epitome of low-key day off wear-- but there's a twist. Katie's tee has detailing that sets it apart, without ruining its utility. The blousy sleeves and button front take this simple tee in a fashionista direction. Score one for Katie.

Want to steal Katie Holmes's button up blouse style for yourself? She's wearing the perfectly laid back LnA Button Up Blouse. LnA's modern takes the plain tee are renowned for their superior fit and-- I can attest to this personally-- wash and wear like a dream. What more can a busy modern woman ask for?

Steal: Basic Black Wardrobe Essentials

Bebe Tailored Light Strapless Dress
Bebe Tailored Strapless Dress

$129.00
Available at: bebe.com

Black is the color of sophistication and class, with a hint of sass. I can’t think of a time when I thought someone didn’t look good in black-- that’s the beauty of it. It cuts everyone slack by being unbelievably slimming. The movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s proves how stunning a plain black dress can be. It never disappoints when it comes to looking well put together and fancy. That’s why, when you need a quick cocktail dress or an evening gown, it’s always a safe bet to choose something black. Therefore, I have chosen three black pieces of clothing that will make your closet more reliable when you need a quick pick for an evening out.

Bebe’s new arrivals are pretty impressive. There are tons of black items to choose from for the fall. There is one dress in particular that caught my eye. It’s a very sophisticated strapless black dress that is tailored to show off curves with a mysterious twist. The Bebe Tailored Light Strapless Dress has a V-cut out on the top front of the dress, and the light padded bodice helps create some extra top curves. To accentuate the waist in addition to the top padding, the dress has an empire waist, and a perfectly matching skinny fabric belt. Although, Bebe classifies this as a “party” dress, I beg to differ. I think it can be pearled up to give it an Audrey Hepburn classic look, or partied up by some bangles and high stilettos. Whatever you choose, I’m sure it will be hot!

Lauren by Ralph Lauren Kelby Skirt

$79.50
Available at: macys.com

I covered a sexy dress, and that’s made me want to look for something that’s purpose is to cover up! I found just that in this trendy and fun Boyfriend Jacket from Express. I love Boyfriend jackets because they can be worn casually with a pair of jeans or they can be worn over some flirty white boot legged pants. But, typically, it’s more of a casual looking blazer. It portrays a hip attitude by being extra long and can be conveniently thrown on with everything. This is a jacket that would be great kept in the car, in case you need it when it gets breezy.

Breezy or not, you always need a nice black skirt handy. Whether you wear it to the office, or to a luncheon you want to make sure you have a high quality black skirt around. Black skirts are an item of clothing you shouldn’t go cheap on. This Lauren by Ralph Lauren Kelby Straight Skirt is only $79.50! That’s a great deal for a sleek designer skirt. The skirt is simple with flair: it has an attached thick leather buckle detail at the waist of the skirt. The belt pulls the look together, especially when you wear it with a tucked in shirt.

New & Hot: Banana Repubic Vivica Equestrian Boot

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Women: Vivica equestrian flat boot - Black
Banana Republic Vivica Boot

$198.00
Available at: bananarepublic.com

Since I'm all in a classic fall fashion frame of mind today... on to another of my top 10 classic fall must-haves: the equestrian boot. A flat-- or semi-flat-- equestrian boot always looks right as the first cool days of fall roll in. An equestrian boot looks great with skinny jeans or thick leggings, but you can also go funky with knee-high socks and slouchy shorts or a skirt. So fun.

I just ran across these Vivica Equestrian Boots in the new arrivals section at BananaRepublic.com. Not only are they a very classic shape, devoid of the crazy bells and whistles that can totally ruin a nice pair of equestrian boots, but these boots are also very nicely priced. A mere $198 for leather boots is truly reasonable and perfect for any of you ladies who aren't quite ready to throw down for a true investment-worthy pair of classic equestrian boots. Try on the look with this fabulous Banana Republic find, and save the investment decisions for your bank account.

Steal: Burberry Giant Check Gauze Scarf

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Burberry Check Gauze Scarf

$150.00
Available at: saks.com

If I were to make a list of the classic fall wardrobe must-haves, a Burberry scarf in the iconic Giant Check pattern would definitely make the top 10. An Burberry check scarf artfully wound around your neck instantly ups the luxe factor of any combination of outerwear. Add a Burberry scarf to a plain jeans and tee combo, you've suddenly pulled together a chic little outfit. Sounds like a winning wardrobe addition, right?

Ok, so there is one small issue. Burberry classic check scarves are disproportionately expensive compared to the fairly small amount of fabric you're actually purchasing. A cashmere version will run you upwards of $300-500, depending on the size; a "skinny" version is still a robust $200. Ouch. But, there is a way to snag a Burberry Giant Check Scarf at a steal price, relatively speaking.

Now available for pre-order is a brand new take on the classic Burberry check scarf-- a wool/silk blend gauze that is roughly half the price of your standard Burberry scarf. All the style, half the price... what's not to love? But, it gets better. For a limited time you can score Free Shipping on all Saks.com orders with code SFASUM9. Spend $150 at Saks.com and you'll also get a Free subscription to Harper's BAZAAR with code: BAZAAR. Lovely.

Summer to Fall: The Chain Link Bag Detail

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Ranya Small Flap
Nine West Ranya Flap Bag

$29.99 (was $69-- save 57%!)
Available at: ninewest.com

On runways everywhere you can count on seeing the chain link bag making a louder comeback. I mean all the big names, including Gucci, are embracing this trend by taking full advantage of chains in every aspect of the word. I’m seeing purses that look like they’re an exploding chain link volcano. Who knew? Bottom line: chain link purses are the hottest thing around!

A chain link bag detail takes away from your outfit, but you have to accessorize less and let the bag speak for itself! There are chain bags covered with studs and punk rock symbols, but I’m going to be featuring some more sophisticated bags that draw from this chain phenomena. My product highlights are less loud, but carry the same oomph in a simpler package. Remember, less is more…

Surprisingly, I was able to find some great deals on chain link bags that are adorable. I didn’t get into some of the edgier bags because they tend to be less wearable for most ladies, and less wearable to most functions. If you’re going to invest in a semi-new fashion trend/piece, you might as well buy something as versatile as possible.

Angie & Lola Printed Satchel

$12.24 (was $34.99-- save 65%!)
Available at: target.com

I love high-end designer bags. Not too sound snooty, but I showed interest at a young age and started accumulating as many lovely ones as I could. But, with the recent dive in the economy, I have gained so much appreciation for well made bags that make the cut as much as some designer brands. I guess there is always a blessing in disguise in everything that happens!

My first bag is from Nine West-- the Ranya Small Flap Bag. It’s a spacious bag, but it’s small enough to carry out in the evening. I really like the simplicity of this bag! The strap is a gold link chain with three color options. There is Brown, Grey, and basic Black. There is a u-shaped chain design around the front closure that gives it a smooth, classy look. The bag’s dynamic flows well, and is perfect for the gal who likes to keep up with fashion, but doesn’t necessarily define herself as trendy.

This next bag is from the HSN network site-- so random! I love it! I think the front closure on this Elliott Lucca Starla shoulder bag is bold and makes a powerful statement. The bag has a lot of presence. I could see this looking great with some jeans and a cotton shirt, because it doesn’t require much to get this bag attention. But, the positive thing is that it can also be worn with a sexy dress and not look like you went overboard. There is nothing worse than looking like you tried to hard.

Lastly, I have the best deal. You may not be getting the best quality bag, but what do you expect for under $13! I mean this bag is so cute! It’s my favorite color combination of black and white. The Angie & Lola Printed Satchel is a flower pattern that doesn’t strain the eye. The bag has a shoulder strap in case you get clutched out after the summer season. Just skip lunch one day-- make it instead, and buy this bag-- it’s worth it!

Fall Fashion: The Boyfriend Blazer

Monday, August 24, 2009

I'm so ready for Fall. I long for cool mornings and layers of clothes. Visions of cashmere and coats are dancing in my head. And, slowly, I'm making my list of must-haves for fall.

Economic things being what they are, I'm trying to be efficient in my fall purchasing. I'm sure you can understand. Only truly stand-out items make the list, and each item must be transformative. No lukewarm purchases this fall. So, with all of these qualifiers, what makes the short list? It's still a little up in the air, but I can say that a chic boyfriend blazer is right up at the top of the list (so far).

The boyfriend blazer is a definite must have for Fall 2009. It is a newer silhouette that will clearly vibe on-trend come fall. Plus, the boyfriend blazer is one of those items that can contribute to any number of outfits since it can be worn with everything from jeans to dresses. The best part? This trend is available in a range of price points, so you are sure to find a boyfriend blazer that fits both your style and your budget.

Here are a few of my favorite finds so far. I'm leaning towards the Elizabeth & James version, but you never can tell...

New & Hot: Patrick McMullan E-Invitations by Pingg

Patrick McMullan for Pingg
Champagne Glasses Invite

Free
Available at: pingg.com

Come one, come all to the next 50 parties I want to have because I just want to send out the chicest invitations I've ever seen. Forget spending $20 per invite on expensive dye cuts layered with silk, pearls and a big stamp that says "I'm dying to impress you!" This is a thing of the past.

Now, I'm wondering if sending a wedding invitation by email only would get people overly razzled and what about the parent's friends without email, but any other party for friends is just fine. Online invites are the way to go these days, from evite.com to pingg.com, everyone is using the free creative invites to see who is coming to your event and what they think about coming. Pingg.com just launched yet another designer series of invites just in time for NY Fashion Week by noted photographer Patrick McMullan.

McMullan is renowned for his take on fashion event photos and has shared his behind the scenes of fashion week in the invites! To see more of McMullan's work, visit his website, PatrickMcMullan.com. Cute shots of models heels standing around before a show, seats before they're even sat in and tons of other views the outsiders never get to see are the focus point of this invitation collection and are sure to be a popular set. Personally I LOVE the image of all the modern champagne glasses ready to be filled at an event - it just screams, "I'm dying to have a good time with you, please come to my party!" Enjoy!

The Botkier "Jackie" Satchel is a new favorite Botkier shape that is destined to take its place alongside the Trigger as a signature Botkier bag. Summer Fashion: Fabulous Full Skirts

Thursday, August 20, 2009

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Victoria's Secret Full belted voile skirt
Full Belted Voile Skirt

$39.50 (was $49.50-- save 20%!)
Available at: victoriassecret.com

Summer brings all kinds of revealing clothing to the table, but sometimes it’s nice to remain a mystery. To mix things up a bit, I want to talk about full skirts-- really represent them-- even though I don’t have a big booty. I mention big booties, because for some reason ladies think that’s what it takes to wear a full skirt-- wrong! Full skirts can be worn by women of all different shapes and sizes. It is true they do a good job hiding booty, but they flow and flirt no matter what type of body you’ve got. I mean, look at Jennifer Grey as Frances in Dirty Dancing, she wore full skirts and was the most impressive girl around. Okay, I know her dance moves were sharp, but wardrobe always counts for something.

Besides being mysterious, full skirts are conveniently less panty revealing-- so there are no accidents. If only Paris Hilton’s wardrobe assistant would recommend full skirts, we would all be spared the peep shows. Perk number three is that you don’t have to shave your entire leg to wear them! Now that I have gone over pros of wearing a full skirt, I’m going to get down to full skirts.

Gingham Flounce Skirts by Kara Janx
Kara Janx Gingham Flounce Skirt

$305.00
Available at: edressme.com

Call me a yellow fanatic, but I can’t deny a color that picks up my mood every time… why resist? They say what you resist, will persist! So, in cooperation with the no-resistance rule, I have chosen a yellow Full Belted Voile Skirt from Victoria Secret. This isn’t an ordinary full skirt, but one with powerful force. This particular skirt has a huge belt that wraps around the skirt made of the same material. It’s a semi-sheer material that is layered to keep it from revealing your best assets. The color options are yellow, black, white and berry. All colors are wonderful and can easily be paired with a tucked in simple cotton or spandex shirt. Don’t go overboard with the top when wearing a full skirt, and don’t try to pair it with a loose top, because that will result in a “full” you.

For a daring full skirt, try the Gingham Flounce Skirt by Kara Janx. This skirt is fierce! The olive and beige small checkered pattern gives it a very girly look, but it’s far from anything a little girl should be wearing. If you are a daring adult, try it. I love the shirt they paired it with in the picture. The idea of wearing a turtle neck type of top that tucks in is spectacular with this type of skirt. I can also envision it with a tight brown top and brown shoe. This choice is short-- make sure you shave!

Moving on to a longer full skirt, I went to Anthropologie to find my next fascinating pick. I chose this skirt because it’s funky and different. It’s semi-long, and it has a zipper down the front middle of the skirt. The Illustrated Pathway Skirt from Edme & Esyllte is a flower, paisley and flourishes pattern. It could have been an overwhelming pattern, but the white/black color combination makes this skirt a killer choice! This skirt with a red top, red heel, metal jewelry, and you won’t be missing a beat!

FOUND: Cindy Crawford's Cut Off Shorts

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Cindy Crawford wearing Current Elliott Cut Off Shorts
I have the best summer fashion memories of cut off shorts. I had a great pair of Levi's cut offs-- salvaged from a pair of my uncle's old work jeans-- that I practically lived in all through college. Seriously, there are pictures of me freshman year in those cut offs... and pictures from graduation weekend featuring the exact same shorts.

I don't remember what happened to those shorts, and I haven't owned a pair of cut offs since. As time has passed, I kind of started to think that maybe I was getting too old for cut offs. But, I'm rethinking that notion.

Super fabulous 40-something Cindy Crawford was recently spotted looking perfectly polished in cut off shorts. Granted, I'm no Cindy, but I'm definitely considering snapping up these fabulous shorts. The more refined fringe paired with a slightly darker wash and loose fit make these cut off shorts more flattering than your average cut offs. Plus, Cindy shows a great way to style cut offs in a more mature fashion with a sleek tunic and t-strap flat sandals.

Want to steal Cindy Crawford's cut off shorts style for yourself? She's wearing this season's new Current Elliott Cut Off Shorts. I should have known. Leave it to denim label du jour to create cut off shorts that vibe a little more luxe than your average DIY pair. Very cute, and very summer appropriate.

Summer to Fall: Stud Details

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

--By Kim Moshtaghi

TRAXX BLACK SUEDE
Steve Madden "Traxx"

$77.97 (was $129.95-- save 40%!)
Available at: stevemadden.com

My friend and I were just talking about how fast time has flown by-- there are already Halloween stores popping up in San Diego. It seems crazy to think that we are going to be in fall before we know it. In order to make a smooth transition into fall it helps to take it slow. Gearing up for it, I decided to embrace and spotlight studded fashionable items that make the transition fun and worth it. Plus, this trend also is goes hand in hand with the vests I featured last week.

Studs are popular, making an appearance on everything from jeans to bracelets. The way I see it, if it looks good on you, and you feel like you will wear it, then buy it and wear it! It’s always nice to switch up the look anyway. Stop making people yawn by wearing the same kind of clothing all the time. Sometimes, you have to break the habit!

My first feature is sure to break the habit with its heavy, rocked out personality. The “Traxx” shoes by Steve Madden are very high-heeled, and belong to a woman who knows how to walk in heels. These shoes are complex looking, which gives them sex appeal. These multi-studded black killer heels are perfect with some leggings or a simple short dress. Every gal needs some shocker shoes that make you taller and make your legs look thinner. Why miss out on the fun? …I didn’t think so!

Bebe Mixed Fabric Studded Wallet
Bebe Studded Wallet

$59.00
Available at: bebe.com

For those of you who like to wear style around their waist, I found a nice very casual wearable belt. The Vine & Thistle Allover Embellished Wide Belt is the perfect width. It’s not too thin, or too wide, as some studded belts can be. It’s something that definitely would wear well with some shorts, over a long tee-shirt dress, or with a pair of jeans. Either way, this belt is reliable every time. There isn’t a moment it will let you down with its metal studs and geometric design across the leather belt. Trust me, you’ll never wonder why you bought this belt once it’s wrapped around you.

Getting simpler, and paying attention to detail, I found an awesome wallet. Maybe it’s because I’m in the market for a wallet, but whatever inspired me to search, I found one! I like this Mixed Fabric Studded Wallet from Bebe because it’s unique… and I love the gunmetal color. The wallet is made with mixed fabrics-- there are little rectangular snake print patches with little tiny studs. It definitely has more than enough room with a back zip coin, an interior zip pocket, three billfolds, and 8 slots for cards. When pulling out this wallet you will be envied, and known for being a detail-oriented fashionista.

FOUND: Halle Berry's Zipper Handbag

JJ Winters Zipper Bag in Black as seen on Halle Berry
JJ Winters Zipper Bag

$435.00
Available at: blacklabelboutique.com

The fashion world creates strange and unexpected trends sometimes. Who would have thought that zippers-- that functional detail that keeps your clothing on nice and snug-- would be the fashion detail du jour? But, here it is, the year of the zipper... and it's great and a ton of fun. From exposed, oversized zippers on dresses, to zip-leg moto-style jeans, to zippers as a purely decorative detail. The zipper is everywhere.

The everywhere zipper trend was recently spotted on super star actress Halle Berry. She was caught carrying an all-over zipper detail handbag. This casual handbag is a stand out accessory, making an otherwise plain-Jane outfit look into a trendy weekend ensemble. It's amazing what the right accessory can do.

Want to steal Halle Berry's zipper handbag look for yourself? She's carrying the very popular JJ Winters Zipper Bag. This best selling handbag has also been spotted on Vanessa Hudgens in brown suede, but I think Halle's black-with-silver-zippers version is the best looking of the two. It would be a perfect addition to a handbag wardrobe that's in need of a punk-ish injection.

Review: Bliss Steep Clean Pore Purifying Mask

Friday, August 14, 2009

Bliss Steep Clean Pore Purifying Mask
I've had bad hair days and pudgy days, but, truthfully, I haven't had bad skin days since early in my college years. Significant investment in monthly dermatologist visits, followed by years of fastidious skin care have left my skin blissfully blemish free.

But, lately, my skin has stopped cooperating. It looks dull and sallow and, well, old. And it's icky dry and flaky, despite the nearly religious use of my favorite exfoliant. I blame the 16-hour days, lack of quality sleep and questionable eating habits. It's my own damn fault. I'm back to bad skin days.

This past Wednesday I reached my breaking point. I drove straight to Sephora after work, determined to purchase the most heavy-duty, skin revitalizing mask I could find. I marched to the Bliss department-- you know, the brand known for supercharged spa products-- and scoured for the mask that would save my ailing skin. I settled on Bliss Steep Clean Pore Purifying Mask. It just sounded heavy duty and, at $55, it was about half of what I was prepared to spend.

How to: Buy and Wear Fashionable Vests

Friday, August 14, 2009

--By Kim Moshtaghi

LaROK Invasion Open Stud Vest
LaROK Invasion Stud Vest

$109.90 (was $278-- save 60%!)
Available at: nordstrom.com

I’m sick of people not wearing adorable things because they don’t think it’s in style. Vests are one of these items. Vests are great piece of clothing to add spunk to an outfit. For some odd reason, women aren’t wearing this stylish sleeveless jacket. Longer, loose fitting vests go great with dresses; the tighter, cropped ones look great with jeans. We’ve all seen Janet Jackson wear vests without any need for approval, and that’s the way to wear it-- no worries, because they look great.

The only way to mess up the vest look is by wearing it in the wrong size, or over a bulky shirt. When you wear the tighter cropped vests, you should wear them over a longer shirt-- think tank top. The looser, longer vests should be worn a size larger, not two or three. If you want to create the sophisticated vest over the collared shirt look, wear a fitted vest that shows off your shape but doesn’t make the shirt underneath look like a pregnancy shirt.

For a longer vest, try the LaRok “Invasion” Open Stud Vest. This vest is hotter than anything the punk rock artist Pink owns her closet. I mean, talk about rock ‘n roll! This no closure, open vest is loud. You wouldn’t have to speak to express your personality in this vest. The metal medallions on the front give this vest all it needs to work for you. The white and metal go smoothly together without looking to heavy. The contrast actually gives it a smoother, more formal look than a black and metal combo.

Arden B Embellished Sequin Vest
Embellished Sequin Vest

$48.00
Available at: ardenb.com

Less punk rock and dressier is the Arden B. Embellished Sequin Vest. This is a good pair for a dress. Any dress with this vest over it will glisten. This black vest has ruffles and a sequined front with one hook to accentuate the bust. This vest has a lot going on-- the back has pleated detail and an adjustable buckle to cinch as much of your waist as you want to.

If sequins scare you a bit, and remind you of your mother’s closet, I’ve got something that will remind you of the sexy Madonna era, and more. Don’t be scared, embrace the past and make it better. Just when you thought it was getting hot, it’s getting hotter! Not the weather, but the next vest. The Military Button Front Vest from Arden B is stunning. The tabover big button front detail with the semi-hidden hook eye closure is what makes this jacket the “it” vest.

New & Hot: Hanna G Boyfriend Blazer

Hanna G Boyfriend Blazer
Hanna G Boyfriend Blazer

$118.00
Available at: nordstrom.com

Continuing on with the trend of all things "boyfriend," the boyfriend blazer is positioned to be one of the true must-haves for early fall. But, like any other super trendy trend, it can be a little painful to contemplate throwing down for the designer version of the boyfriend blazer. Sure, an oversized, androgynous jacket looks cool for fall 2009, but is this really a look that will stand the test of time? Doubtful. What we all need is an affordable version of this hot trend that doesn't sacrifice good looks and solid construction just for a pretty price.

I think this Hanna G Boyfriend Blazer is the affordable, yet trendy version of the boyfriend jacket that we've all been looking for. This menswear inspired blazer is updated for 2009 with a slouchy style and ruched sleeves for that artfully pushed-up-sleeve look that can be spotted in the glossies, but without all of the effort of constantly pushing up said sleeves. I kind of love that, even though it feels like cheating just a little bit.

Sure, $118 is hardly wear-it-twice-and-throw-away pricing, but jackets are one thing that you can't fake with a knock-off from a cheapie store. They never hang right. This Hanna G Blazer balances affordability with decent fit and crisp poly/viscose rayon/wool blend construction. I'd call that a fashion score.

SALE: Soia & Kyo Thaly Down Puffer Jacket 30% Off

Soia & Kyo grey quilted 'Thaly' short down jacket
Soia & Kyo Thaly Down Jacket

$129.00 (was $185-- save 30%!)
Available at: bluefly.com

I may be a lifelong California girl, but that doesn't mean that I'm oblivious to the plight of those of you who live in less temperature-stable parts of the country. I've been in Chicago on days that registered double-digits below zero and, let me tell you, there's nothing quite like Minneapolis in January. Both less-than-enjoyable cold weather experiences were saved by the addition of a puffer jacket. I now regard a chic puffer as a must-have for cold climates.

Notice I said "chic puffer." Too many puffer jackets are childish looking and, well, just plain wrong. Enter renowned outerwear maker Soia & Kyo and their very fashion-forward Thaly Down Puffer Jacket. This sleek version of the puffer comes complete with stylish details like a shawl collar and oversized button front. But, don't be deceived by the polish-- this is also a serious piece of outerwear. Hidden under all the pretty is a hardworking core featuring a water resistant poly exterior, snap close pockets, interior gaiter cuffs with elasticized banding and mid-weight warm down fill. Best part? It comes in 5 trendy colors: grey (shown), black, espresso, purple and blue.

New & Hot: Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Bag in Envy

Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Bag with Strap in Envy
Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Bag

$595.00
Available at: lunaboston.com

I'm so indecisive when it comes to new handbag purchases. That's not to say that I don't fall in love with new handbags daily. It's just that I try to see new handbags as an investment, and that means thinking hard about the utility and longevity of a bag... not just how gorgeous it will look dangling on my arm. I've been going back and forth about what my next handbag purchase will be. I really want a dove grey or smoke colored bag, preferably of the Foley & Corinna variety. But, I also really, really want a Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Bag. Argh.

Until now, it was the shape of the Morning After Bag that was of interest to me. The extra large rectangular shape with streamlined outer pocket and discreet hardware is appealing in that cozy way that makes you want to cuddle with your handbag. I like that feeling. But, I hadn't yet found a color of the now iconic Rebecca Minkoff bag that really made me want to run out and invest... until I ran across this version in the New Arrivals section at online handbag retailer Luna Boston. The deep green shade, which is aptly named "Envy," is perfectly luxurious and yet oddly neutral looking. I think this may be the one.

Fashion Essential: Skinny Belts

CC Skye Gold Braided Belt
CC Skye Gold Braided Belt

$475.00
Available at: singer22.com

Skinny belts are a small accessory with a large impact. As dainty as they are, skinny belts accentuate the waist, give an outfit a burst of color and help tie an outfit together. Eva Mendes is one celebrity who knows how to wear belts appropriately, especially the skinny belt. She wears the belt with high waist pencil skirts-- a subtle look. Skinny belts also go lovely with cardigans, dresses, Capris, collared shirts and many other items in your closet.

Skinny belts add texture to an outfit without feeling or looking bulky-- making it perfect for layering! Thicker belts are fun and fashionable too, but are harder to layer with, and not as classy and professional as thinner belts. Thicker belts take over and outfit, while thinner belts pull the look together and add sophistication. It’s a great idea to have a few different skinny belts on hand-- they are great for work.

Ah… the classic tortoise print is my first choice. J.Crew gave me a nice fuzzy feeling when I saw this Skinny Tortoise Patent-Leather Belt. Not only is the tortoise shell print timeless, but this skinny belt will cinch your waist and give you office glamour. One of my favorite things about tortoise print is how diverse it is. It’s an even more practical version of leopard, with the same sass level.

Belgo Lux Skinny Woven Belt

$24.00
Available at: nordstrom.com

Speaking of sass, CC Skye never jokes when it comes to embracing sexiness! Singer 22 has this wonderful CC Skye Gold Braided Belt that would make the Little Mermaid jealous! Wrap it once or twice to show off the blingy links. This would look best worn loosely around a v-neck dress, or some cute shorts. When I use the word “love” it’s because it’s an item that can be used for multi-purposes. The CC Skye belt can be a great substitute belt for the boring trench coat belt. I’m already thinking ahead for fall, and during these hard times, I expect $475 to work for me for a while.

Not everyone loves chains and tortoise, so for you I have a braided belt. Who doesn’t like braids? Braids remind me of two words: youth and playful. It may sound far off and random, but it makes twisted sense. This woven belt is a perfect blend of chic and playful, just what we all need. The Belgo Lux Skinny Woven Belt is hip, yet more conservative then my other picks. It’s got that young, naïve quality to it, like a child.

Be youthful or daring; just wrap your waist in one of these skinny belts.

FOUND: Gwen Stefani's Tie Dye Jeans

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Current Elliott Tie Dye Skinny Jean as seen on Gwen Stefani
Current/Elliott Tie Dye Jeans

$189.00
Available at: blacklabelboutique.com

I've never been a fan of tie-dye. I remember some DIY tie-dye experiments in kindergarten, and a purple tie-dye tee worn as part of a high school hippie dress-up day. But, other than that, I've lived a blissfully tie-dye-free existence. Leave it to Gwen Stefani to completely change my mind.

Gwen was recently spotted on stage sporting some seriously fabulous tie-dye cropped jeans. While it is true that Gwen has a knack for pulling off cutting edge fashions that us mere mortals could never pull off, I think that these particular jeans could transition from stage to real life quite easily. Picture these crazy cropped jeans with a slim white tee and heeled gladiator sandals for day, or with a slouchy black tank and studded peep-toes for evening. Love it.

Want to steal Gwen Stefani's tie-dye jeans style for yourself? She's wearing the brand new Current/Elliott Tie Dye Jeans. We should have guessed that jeans this outrageous, yet amazingly covetable, must be from Current/Elliott. That label practically specializes in denim that sounds crazy on paper, but looks rock star solid on the body. And the price? Surprisingly low for a Current/Elliott find.

SALE: Oh...Deer! Mocha Lacquered Cork Pump

Oh...Deer! Mocha Lacquered Cork Pump
Oh...Deer! Mocha Lacquered Cork Pump

$49.50 (was $165-- save 70%!)
Available at: shopbop.com

I am a big believer in shopping signs. That only-one-left blouse that just happens to be in your size. The misplaced pair of jeans that jump out in front of you, practically begging to be brought home. That totally stand-out pair of shoes that you've had your eye on for months, suddenly on super sale...

Yes, I've been stalking these Oh...Deer! Mocha Lacquered Cork Pumps since they debuted months ago. They are just so unique and chic that it's hard not to take a second look, whether you've spotted them online or in store (I've stalked them in both locations). These classically shaped pumps feature real lacquered cork upper tipped with either black or white accent.

While I admit that the white tipped version is a little more sleek, I've fallen for the black tipped pair. I think the black accent paired with the cork upper makes for a real neutral, yet fashion-forward, pump that can be paired with many things in your wardrobe. Yes, I finally bought my pair of these stalk-worthy pumps... I can't wait to wear them!

SALE: Tibi Dresses 40% Off

Tibi turquoise printed silk 'El Dorado' dress
Tibi El Dorado Dress

$270.00 (was $450-- save 40%!)
Available at: bluefly.com

I think I've sufficiently explained my bizarre dress buying behavior plenty of times, but for any of you who may be new to Stiletto Jungle... let's just say that when it comes to dresses, I have things a bit backwards. Some girls get invited to a hot event and spend all day searching for the perfect dress. I find fabulous dresses and then spend ages trying to find the perfect event to wear them to. I'm a prime example of a girl who lets fashion rule her life. C'est la vie.

The usual suspects in my dress-buying conspiracy: Milly, Vince, Rachel Pally... and Tibi. I'm particularly fond of Tibi's 100% silk retro-print dresses. They are like wearable art, and the fit is always to die for. Sale priced Tibi calls to me like a siren. It's really no wonder than I wandered to online designer outlet Bluefly.com just as they were unveiling brand new sale-priced Tibi dresses. Love.

Bluefly is currently stocking 5 new Tibi dresses. My favorite is the turquoise silk Tibi El Dorado dress pictured here. But, the Hawaiian Leopard shift dress is in close second place. Decisions, decisions.

Trendy Readers - Checkmate
Trendy Readers Checkmate Glasses

$70.00
Available at: trendyreaders.com

Lately I feel like I stare too long at these darn screens. Maybe it's like my optometrist said and my eyes are just tired - but I feel like my vision is becoming slightly impaired and it's making me nervous! I love my perfect vision!! Well, she prescribed me a light prescription for reading... reading glasses? Really? Will I be that older woman still squinting with little halfsie glasses on the end of my nose?

Well luckily it's modern technology with 2009 and certainly updated looks! Adair Eyewear, which is a boutique retailer based in Fort Worth, Texas, is expanding their reach with TrendyReaders.com. Now everyone can be a shopper of Adair's no matter where they live and take advantage of their fantastic taste and good deals. With offerings of over 500 types of styles and 10 brands, owner Alyce Jones knows what it takes to keep business up by appealing to a direct need. Brands include Ed Hardy, Maui Jim and Porsche. Some of my favs from Trendy Readers are the Checkmate, a cool aqua and brown frame for $70; the Princess Jana, a tortoise shell type with a little bling for $20; and, although a little dorky, the Magnetic Holder for $20. The Magnetic Holder attaches onto the inside of your pants and then you can hang your reader's right off the attached hook - voila, never lost again! Adair's is officially awesome and has some great deals - don't feel old yet, get some Trendy Readers!
