Stuart Weitzman Audrey Handbag

$725.00
Available at: zappos.com

Happy holidays shoppers - the time is here - there are decorations popping up everywhere, twinkling lights lining the streets and amazing products for us to oogle over daily for gifts to us and for giving...maybe.

Stuart Weitzman is, as usual, creating shoes and accessories that are clothing the celebs around the country. From musicians to reality stars and socialites, who doesn't like a great pair of "stewies"? I know I do, my closet is lined with at least 5 pair in multiple styles - always a classic choice.

Speaking of reality stars and socialites, Olivia Palermo from the MTV hit series The City sports the brand to events weekly it seems! Just this week she was seen at the ARC New York talent PR agency opening carrying the black croco-calf Stuart Weitzman Audrey bag. The bag just looks like butter and is certainly big enough to carry all of your bobbles and secrets. You can be just like Olivia for around 700 bucks, but you certainly aren't going to be seen at a chic opening party in Manhattan chatting up Marc Jacobs in a kilt - please! But you could be seen at dinner with your friends or an amazing event in your city. This was the second time Palermo was spotted out and about with the Audrey bag - she was also at the Audi TDI Clean Diesel Dinner alongside her simple black outfit with tights - such a great look!

Head on over to StuartWeitzman.com, their website is looking fantastic and will be sure to lure you into a shoe and a bag or two.

Winter Fashion: The Buckle Boot

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Aldo Gillem Buckle Boot
Aldo "Gillem" Boot

$79.98 (was $120-- save 33%!)
Available at: aldo.com

Inspired by my recent trip to LA, I was surprised that I was fond of the funky buckle boot trend. I haven’t seen too much of this grunge-inspired trend in San Diego. Buckle boots can look grungy, which has been why I couldn’t relate to the buckle boot as a fashion must-have. But, I instantly loved this hip trend when I saw how it could be personalized to fit each individual's fashion style. I would have never thought I would appreciate this look, but sometimes all it takes is seeing the way other people are wearing it to appreciate it-- no wonder there are fashion shows!

The buckle boot isn't just for biker gals or models anymore. I searched for some affordable black buckle boots to ease myself into this trend slowly. Don’t get overwhelmed by the buckles, and let it get your creative juices flowing. Plus, with the cooler conditions, boots are always helpful. Diversify your boot collection because you can’t be wearing the same boots everyday-- keep it fresh and fun. Just in time for the holiday season, wrap your foot with lots of buckles and enough sass to kick some major butt without lifting your foot.

Steve Madden - Wrappp (Black Suede) - Footwear
Steve Madden Wrappp Boot

Available at: zappos.com

To avoid overwhelming you I’m going to start off with the "Gillem" ankle boots from Aldo. This boot only has one buckle, and will be a perfect start. This cognac-colored ankle boot with a round toe and a smaller, more comfortable heel has got a lot of style. From the nice cognac color, to the printed snakeskin strap around the side that gives it a luxurious flair, you can’t deny its charm. This boot also comes in black if you’ve given up on cognac.

Next up, I stuck with one buckle, but I went for a wilder pair with studs. These black studded Steve Madden Wrappp peep toe boots will look rockin' with a red pedicure and some enormous confidence. There are a few straps and many studs embellishing this one buckle boot. A bit more daring than the Aldo pair, I think this is more of a funky rocker-chic look.

Lastly, I found a two buckle boot at Macy’s. This Aerosoles Ride Line Boot is the boot equivalent of a classic black stiletto. It’s very versatile and would look great with skinny jeans and leggings. These riding boots are a more refined version of the traditional riding boot.

Halle Berry carrying Gustto handbag
Gustto Milano Messenger Bag

$454.00

Available at: zappos.com

I often struggle with when, exactly, it became so important to carry my entire life along with me everywhere I go. In college, it was normal to head out the door with nothing more than my driver's license, cash and some lip gloss in my pocket. By grad school I had moved on to the mini-purse-- just enough room to also bring along my cell phone and some mints. Now I can't leave the house without a suitcase-sized handbag housing enough stuff to handle any beauty disaster or wardrobe malfunction that could possibly come my way. This level of schleping requires a serious handbag, with serious style to make up for the huge size.

Luckily, I'm not the only one with an oversized handbag issue. In fact, it seems like the oversized handbag has become the norm. Multi-tasking ladies are now living out of their handbags, so I suggest turning to some truly talented multi-taskers to find handbags that really can do it all. Need a handbag that can hold beauty tools, baby toys and scripts... all while keeping you off the worst dressed list? Look no further than your closest Hollywood mom. Just check out this new handbag on the arm of Halle Berry. It's suitably large, but still sleek, and has a handy strap that can be worn cross-body-- an essential feature for major multi-tasking.

Want to steal Halle Berry's sleek messenger bag style for yourself? She's carrying the Gustto Milano Messenger Bag in Charcoal. Also available in Burgundy and Blue, this waxed leather bag has a great combination of sleek style and real functionality.

Fashion Cents: The Pearl Jewelry Trend

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

--By Kimberly Turner

Recently I read that jewelry was in. Duh! Jewelry is always in. But there are jewelry trends within each season; like this season pearls and bib necklaces are big. They are a great way to update your wardrobe and add a little of the season's "trendiness" without breaking the bank. So while I love both trends, I'm going to share only a few PEARLS of wisdom:

1) Pearls are not just for the demure. They can add a sexy, trendy look to jeans, perfect for work, and they are a dressy enough look for after 5 events too. So you don't have to save them for lunch with your granny.

2) You don't have to buy the real thing. Faux pearls are an easy way to get a luxurious look on a frugal budget. And if someone asks you if they are real? Just say "yes". They are...real fake.

3) They can be versatile. Buy one long strand and you can make it into more than just a necklace:

• Wrap it around the waist as a belt.
• Wrap it numerous time around the arms for a big bracelet.
• Leave it long with a knot and you've got a pearl tie.

Now, check out the video and see how it all "strands" together!

FOUND: Jessica Szohr's Skinny Grey Jeans

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Jessica Szohr wearing Anoname Jeans
Anoname Paris Skinny Jean

$110.00
Available at: shopanoname.com

I know, I know. There are a lot of people who are counting the moments until the skinny jean goes away. I remember when the skinny jean really burst onto the scene about three years ago. Event the most in-the-know fashionistas were convinced that it was a passing fad. Then it stuck around for another season. And another season. And here we are, still talking about the skinny as a wardrobe must have. Face it. The skinny jean isn't going anywhere any time soon.

Within the skinny jean genre there are definitely some stand out styles that rise to the top, and the grey skinny jean is at the tippity top. Grey skinnies go with a huge range of top options and can feel dressy, yet they are less polished than dark skinnies, which gives off a more rocker vibe. This versatility was recently showcased by Gossip Girl's Jessica Szohr, who wore grey skinnies to the American Eagle Outfitters Times Square Flagship Store Grand Opening Party. Doesn't she look fabulous? I'm totally inspired by this grey on grey on grey ensemble. Love it.

Want to steal Jessica Szohr's skinny grey jeans style for yourself? She's wearing Anoname Jeans Paris Skinny Jean in Ash. I won't even touch the fact that Jessica wore Anoname Jeans to an American Eagle event. Probably not the most gracious move from the PR perspective, but the jeans Jessica chose are stunning and a great style choice.

Review: Perricone MD Advanced Face Firming Activator

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

--By Kim Moshtaghi

PerriconeMD Advanced Face Firming Activator
Perricone MD Face Firming Activator

$120.00
Available at: sephora.com

A couple months ago I was fortunate enough to review PerriconeMD Advanced Face Firming Activator. The timing was perfect after being exposed to the summer heat. I had some discoloration on my face and my pores were looking larger. I had seen Dr. Perricone on Oprah and wondered what all the fuss was about. I was impressed by his credentials, being a board certified clinical and research dermatologist and having written three New York Times Best Sellers. That was enough for me to be interested in trying out one of his products.

I used the face firming activator hoping to correct my skin's imperfections, smooth out my skin, and get overall radiant looking skin. The website said that results would appear after 6 weeks, so I used it for close to 2 months to really see what kind of results I would get.

After the 3 weeks of everyday use, I saw great results. My skin looked more plump and healthy. My discoloration went away completely, giving my skin an even-toned look. The Advanced Face Firming Activator really did the job it promised to do. For more information about this product, see Dr. Perricone’s website, which goes in to detail about all of his skin products.

PerriconeMD has different kinds of regimens that Dr. Perricone recommends on his website to bring different skin problems into a rejuvenation process. Based on Dr. Perricone's knowledge and research, and having personally used one of his products and continuing to use it, I would definitely recommend this product to family and friends. The Advanced Face Firming Activator did give my face and neck a healthy glow along with minimizing wrinkles around my eyes. I do think it is worth $120 for a 2 oz. bottle. I still have more than half the bottle left after a couple months of everyday use. When it comes to your face-- the first thing people notice about you-- there isn’t a price, if it works.

To see what other people say about PerriconeMD products, and to get an opportunity to become a PerriconeMD product tester, check out the PerriconeMD blog.

Disclosure: a review sample of this product was provided free of charge by PerriconeMD; no compensation was received in exchange for this review.

Uniqlo HeatTech Clothing: Buy It Online!

Monday, November 23, 2009

Uniqlo HeatTech
Update 1/5/13: Late 2012 Uniqlo introduced online shopping in the US! Uniqlo fashions, including the full line of Heattech products, are now available for online purchase.

I hate being cold. Even more so that your average California girl, I am practically paralyzed by cold weather. And by "cold" I mean anything under 65 degrees. No joke. And, as luck would have it, in just the past couple years I've managed to hit up NYC, Boston, Chicago and Minneapolis during winter. Bad news. The minute the temperature dips below freezing I stop caring what I look like. I layer ski clothes under wool. I wear caps and mufflers and ear muffs and I double up on gloves. It's pathetic and not cute.

Do you suffer from a similar not-so-cute cold weather clothing issue? Well, suffer no more. Let me introduce you to Uniqlo HeatTech clothing. You are going to love this.

First, some background. The cult favorite Japan-based Uniqlo label is at that difficult stage that Top Shop was at maybe eight years ago. World travelling fashionistas know Uniqlo well-- their affordable, fashion-forward styles are available throughout Asia's most fashionable cities and in select European locales. Fashion glossies feature Uniqlo's fab finds in nearly every issue. But, the one and only US store is in NYC's SOHO neighborhood... and Uniqlo does not have a US web store. So, unless you are traveling abroad or plan to hit up the Uniqlo SOHO store, um, no Uniqlo for you.

All of which brings me back to HeatTech-- Uniqlo's proprietary fashionable cold weather wear. Don't worry, this story has a happy ending. Stick with me.

Uniqlo HeatTech is a line of underlayers-- like turtlenecks, camisoles, leggings and tees-- that are made from a special fabric that is designed to create and retain warmth in even the coldest environments. Everyone I've heard who has tried HeatTech has fallen instantly in love with this cold-slaying gear. Sounds like something you'd find in a camping store, right? Well, that's what makes Uniqlo HeatTech so special-- it's fashionable! HeatTech comes in gorgeous colors and fashionable shapes that you want to wear. Check out this stylish advertisement from Uniqlo UK:

No longer do we have to wear ugly, cumbersome layers to stay warm in super cold environments. And, it gets better. Uniqlo HeatTech pieces are all available for under $15 and, unlike the rest of Uniqlo's clothing, are available online for a very limited time only. Seriously, if you live in or plan to visit a cold weather area, and you want to retain your fashionista style while staying cozy warm, you need Uniqlo HeatTech. Love it!

Taylor Swift wearing Qi Cashmere Fly Robin Fly Tunic
Qi Fly Robin Fly Tunic

$212.00
Available at: qicashmereshop.com

I'm a big fan of wrapping myself in as much cashmere as possible. Wrap sweaters, turtlenecks that you practically have to crawl your way out of, and don't even get me started about the wonder that is cashmere leggings-- it's all good stuff. There's no better way to look fashionable, yet feel like you are wearing your pajamas, than to throw on a lot of cashmere.

I'm not the only person on the cashmere bandwagon. Some of Hollywood's (and Nashville's) hottest starlets are also big cashmere fans. Check out this recent pic of girl-of-the-moment Taylor Swift greeting fans. She looks chic, yet comfortable in her slouchy cashmere tunic.

Want to steal Taylor Swift's cute cashmere tunic look for yourself? She's wearing the Fly Robin Fly Tunic from Qi Cashmere. This football jersey-inspired tunic is crafted from 100% cashmere and comes in four gorgeous colors. This oversized tunic is perfect for pairing with leggings or skinny jeans for a relaxed weekend or travel look that is still luxe and pulled together.

Winter Fashion: The Bib Necklace

Monday, November 23, 2009

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Chico's Benicia Necklace
Chico's Benicia Necklace

$112.00 (was $128-- save 12%!)
Available at: chicos.com

Bejewel yourself! Utilize your neck to its fullest potential by accenting it with a gorgeous, flowing bib necklace. It can be hard to get used to wearing something around your neck, but it’s a tempting colossal move that shouldn’t be resisted. I’m glad I didn’t forgo this trend because it has made dressing easier and quicker. Why you ask? Because, throwing on a blazer and a multi-layered, drop-jeweled bib necklace is the most efficient way to get the Gwen Stefani look-- a sort of punk rocker meets sassy PTA mom... depending on the necklace, of course. For every fashionista there is a bold, glitzy bib necklace waiting to be worn.

For the daring gals, I’ve got just the most neck-satisfying jewel-drop bib necklace from Chico's. Although Chico’s has a grandma reputation, this necklace proves that a fashion savvy lady of any age can buy from Chico’s. They have always carried an array of classic fun jewelry. The Chico's Benicia Necklace is a magical drop necklace with moonlit stones, crystals, and clear rhinestones scattered next to one another, creating a wonderfully inconsistent, yet lovely neck accessory. This will make your white Hanes t-shirt look like a Dolce & Gabbana.

Bebe Brightly Beaded Drop Necklace
Bebe Brightly Beaded Necklace

$39.00
Available at: bebe.com

If the Chico’s necklace is too erratic, I have a wonderful pick for the more refined, conservative fashion gal. The ABS by Allen Schwartz "Skin Deep" Faux Pearl PavĂ© Necklace is phenomenal. The bronze colored pearls in combination with the goldtone crystal balls are stunning. The pearl strands and alternating crystal balls are perfectly aligned to complete the elegant, lustrous look. Because the necklace makes such a powerful statement, it would be wise to keep the earrings simple-- perhaps a pair of studs. Everything about this necklace passes the test: the shape is consistent, the color is glamorous, and the three layers are great for a scoop neck.

Another lovely pick for readers who may describe themselves as spontaneous is the Bebe Brightly Beaded Drop Necklace. This bib necklace has contrasting light and dark beads to create a beautiful choker that will marvel you. The necklace is a link chain with pink teardrop beads. The necklace lays flat and is the ultimate comfortable, wearable day-to-night necklace. Wear it in the office with your grey pantsuit and then transform your look by exchanging your slacks for dark denim. If this trend is too much for day- to- day, consider it for all the fun sparkly holiday events. You’ll be the dazzle queen of the party.

Ashley Greene carrying Rebecca Minkoff
Rebecca Minkoff 3 Zip Rocker

$195.00
Available at: rebeccaminkoffstore.com

I really was trying to avoid posting about anything Twilight-related this week. Really, I was. I mean, just about every site has found a reason to mention the big movie premiere, so I was holding strong. Then this photo of Ashley Greene-- who plays Alice Cullen in the Twilight movies-- landed in my inbox courtesy of a PR agency. There goes my self-imposed Twilight ban.

I fell hard for the bag Ashley is toting. So, of course, I have to write about it. First of all, I love yellow handbags-- I'm carrying a yellow Botkier Trigger right now and I can't put it down. And embossed croc is so much fun, particularly when it comes in Crayola colors. And a small-ish cross-body-capable party purse is very high up on my to-buy list. Yes, this bag is just about perfect. Smart choice, Ashley.

Want to steal Ashley Greene's yellow croc handbag style for yourself? She's toting the Rebecca Minkoff Croc 3 Zip Rocker. Derived from the same style family as the now-famous Rebecca Minkoff Stud Rocker cross-body, the 3 Zip Rocker is big enough for your night-out essentials and makes a secure cross-body placement seem a little more "rock star" and a little less "freaked out tourist." Love it.

BCBGeneration Katchen Leopard Pony Hair Pump
BCBGeneration Katchen Pony Hair Pump

$49.99 (was $95-- save 47%!)
Available at: smartbargains.com

Animal prints are a true classic that never goes out of style, and animal print pony hair has a particularly timeless look, in my opinion. So, these animal print pony hair pumps are a great find at regular price. At almost half off, they're practically impossible to resist.

The BCBGeneration Katchen Leopard Pony Hair Pump is the same style as the Katchen pump that was once a mainstay of the BCBGirls line. I have a pair of the old BCBGirls Katchen in green croc-embossed leather and they are both very comfortable and a great shape-- tall, but not too tall; pointy-toed, but not overly so. These leopard pumps have the same great Katchen shape, but in a luxe looking pony hair... at a not so luxe price. Love it.

Ken & Dana Design Rights Ring

$95.00
Available at: kenanddanadesign.com

I haven't stepped inside a courtroom in years, but that's done nothing to diminish how proud I feel to be an attorney when I re-read some of the landmark court decisions that shaped the American legal system. The written decisions in cases like Loving v. Virginia and Brown v. Board of Education capture moments in time when a well-made argument changed the way the legal system works, creating or upholding very important civil rights.

Now a forward-thinking jewelry company has created a way to commemorate some of the most important U.S. Supreme Court decisions in the area of civil rights, while supporting an important charitable cause. Ken & Dana Designs Rights Rings each commemorate an important civil rights case, with the case citation embossed on a chic ring. Not only can you show your support of an important decision, you can help a great cause in the process. 20% of each sale will be donated to the Harlem Children’s Zone, a community-based organization that offers education, social-service and community-building programs to children and families.

Rings are available in commemoration of the following U.S. Supreme Court cases:

Loving v. Virginia – legalized interracial marriage
Leser v. Garnett – upheld the 19th amendment, women's right to vote
Romer v. Evans – protects against discrimination by sexual orientation
Brown v. Board of Education – desegregated schools

Rings are available in three styles: the regular Rights Ring shown above, the Rights Small Silver Two Finger Ring, and the Rights Silver Two Finger Ring. Click through the photo or any linked text to link directly to where you can purchase that Ken & Dana Design Rights Ring style online.

How To: Wash Cashmere Clothing

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

I'm a cashmere freak. I'll totally own up to it. I have over 20 cashmere sweaters in all shapes and colors, and I wear cashmere at least a couple times a week all fall and winter long. It's just so soft and warm and cozy! I can't get enough.

But, cashmere has its down side. If you get the good stuff-- and you really should, because it's a whole different experience-- cashmere is pricey. And it's notoriously hard to care for. The thought of hand washing a $300+ sweater is enough to freak anyone out. And dry cleaning chemicals can make cashmere stiff and very un-cashmere like. But, there's hope. I ran across this helpful video on how to wash cashmere and how to store cashmere properly. It's hosted by stylist and Jones New York spokesman Lloyd Boston, who makes caring for cashmere sound oh-so-easy. I'm not convinced it's that easy, but these tips and visuals are helpful. When you think of handbag that goes with every color, a neutral beige tends to come to mind. But, being multi-purpose doesn't have to be that boring. A rainbow colored handbag can be just as versatile as your beige standby. And, no, rainbow-colored doesn't have to scream "preschool fashionista."

Check out this recent picture of Paris Hilton hitting up the local newsstand. Sure, Paris's fashion can be a little wacky at times, but she's nothing if not fearless in her fashion choices. And, sometimes they pay off. Like with her choice of a multi-colored clutch to pair with her bright floral dress. Mixing stand out florals with multicolored accessories may not be for everyone, but this smart rainbow clutch would play nicely with a little black dress or single-hued sheath dress.

Want to steal Paris Hilton's rainbow clutch look for yourself? She's carrying the Nolita Clutch in Rainbow on Black from NYC-based handbag designer Zara Terez. Winter Fashion: Must-Have UGG Boots

UGG Australia Sunburst Tall Boots
UGG Sunburst Boots

$225.00
Available at: bloomingdales.com

I couldn’t sleep at all last night! I woke up at 5 a.m. and decided to stop wasting time staring at the ceiling and drove to the Torrey Pines Trails for a hike. It’s a beautiful beachside hike spot that makes exercising the most pleasurable thing it could possibly be. However, when I got there I was so cold, even though I was wearing three layers! I was watching people embrace the view while leaning against their car with a cup of coffee. This, and the fact that they looked so comfy in their UGG Boots, made me envious.

UGG Boots are important in the winter. How could you not justify owning a pair or two? You will wear them, feel comfortable in them, and keep warm at the same time-- enough said! My three favorite UGG Boot styles aren’t anything extravagant or too unusual, but rather simple and help you avoid relying on anything but yourself for warmth. Every time I flip-flop on the idea of purchasing a pair, I try them on realize that there is nothing else like them.

The stylish UGG Sunburst Tall Boot is a classic that keeps on giving. This pick is the most expensive out of my three picks, but it has a lot to offer. The longer boot provides extra warmth around the calves, and the molded insole and outer soles give these UGG Boots extra comfort and durability. There is also a removable insole for extra warmth for the winter time. Your lil’ toes will be so happy with you.

UGG Australia Dakota Slipper
UGG Dakota Slipper

$99.95
Available at: nordstrom.com

Talk about slippers that remind you of nautical shoes but, have enough warmth to keep a household warm! These cozy UGG Boots Dakota slip-ons are stylin’ without the high top fuzz! They cover what counts and don’t go further. Perfect for on-the-go gals who don’t like the UGG look. They come in several different colors, keeping it fun and relatable for all. This pair is easy to slide on, and off. With the typical ordeal of winter socks and boots, this is a relief!

For the ferocious diva, I’ve got the UGG Leopard Bailey Button Boots. This particular pair is thinner and less bulky than some other picks. This is a great pair to slip on and wear in-home, or a hip pair to wear while avoiding the more serious aspects of life. Be prepared to walk on the wild side.

Fall to Winter: Red Fashion Adds Spice

Bebe Killer Curves Dress - Red Fashion Dress
Bebe Killer Curves Dress

$119.00
Available at: bebe.com

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, red is the hot color to be wearing this winter! The color of passion ignites a lot of conflicting emotions, but getting noticed is getting noticed, right? Different cultures seem to have their opinions on the color red. The Chinese believe is represents luck and happiness, while in Russia a red flag represents communism. Although red is a color in many flags, lets not get political and stick to red fashion instead.

Basically, if you want to get noticed and want a song written about you, wear red! There is something powerful about a woman who walks in a classic black suit with bold bright red lipstick-- it just looks so undeniably stunning. It doesn’t always have to look overwhelmingly sexy, red fashion can actually be appropriate in a conservative setting. It’s all in the way you carry yourself.

But, for those who are looking for the sexy red, I’ve got a dress that will amplify sexy by ten fold. This Bebe Killer Curves Dress is a knockout! If you feel like you need an extra boost, step up your look with this red strapless dress and watch the eyes focus in on you. Power of color, isn’t it wonderful? You can tone it down a bit with pearls and a black wool blazer. Otherwise, rock it while you’ve got it.

Victoria's Secret Drop-waist belted wool coat
Victoria's Secret Drop-Waist Coat

$129.00 (was $148-- save 13%!)
Available at: victoriassecret.com

Okay, so we’ve covered red lipsticks before, but I just realized the stunner potential of Sephora’s very own red lipstick line. The Sephora Lip Attitude - Chic 100% Red lipstick is a semi-glossy, sophisticated red without shimmer. Red, shimmery lips don’t look nice on anyone but Barbie. Sephora’s Lip Attitude line has an array of colors to choose from, including a few others that are in the red family. The lipstick line contains complex omega 3 and vitamin E to prevent lips from aging. Red lips are bright and noticeable so, when wearing red lips, try to keep the eye makeup simple to keep it classic. The best thing about red lipstick is the way it makes teeth look super white-- love it! Feel free to smile, laugh, and vice versa!

Red lips and a strapless red dress may not be your cup of tea but, how about a warm stylin’ red jacket? Victoria Secret’s Drop-Waist Belted Wool Coat in Chili Twill is beyond stylish! Everything about this jacket is an A+. This jacket is the right look for any setting. The drop waist gives this jacket a fun flare; the large collars and oversized buttons give the jacket an edgy modern look. The color is darker red, which is a little less flashy, but trust me you wont go unnoticed in this coat!

FOUND: 3 Go-To Fashion & Beauty Items

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

--By Kim Moshtaghi

Tend Skin
Tend Skin

$20.00
Available at: ulta.com

There are three items I just can’t live without! These things help me maintain my look-- from nail polish to pants-- and they are always within my reach.

My first item is something I use daily. This may be an odd product but it works very well! If you have ever had ingrown hairs or razor bumps you may want to try Tend Skin. This stuff is a miracle worker. Every morning I have made it a ritual to place some Tend Skin on a cotton ball and rub my bikini area, and voila, all the ingrowns disappear. The best part is you can use it on your legs and underarms, and can share it with your hubby for his problem areas too. I used a lot of products before Tend Skin that my dermatologist recommended and they didn’t work nearly as well. I suggest getting the 16 oz bottle because it makes more economical sense. But, if you are hesitant about the results, get a sample... you will be sold on it!

Victoria's Secret Yoga Foldover Pant
Victoria's Secret Yoga Foldover Pant

$29.50 OR 2 for $50.00
Available at: victoriassecret.com

My nails are always a problem these days. I never have time to get a manicure or give myself one. Because of karate, I ruin my nails easily, so I need a quick classic polish that I can put on before I go somewhere. I finally found one that I can put on right before going out-- literally! Sally Hansen 60 Second Insta-Dri Polish is unbelievable! It actually dries less than 60 seconds! I usually do my hair and makeup, and then put on one coat before I head out. It looks like I just got a manicure, without all the fuss.

Lastly, I love having fold over yoga pants. Yes, I know they aren’t a beauty product, but they do come in handy. Every time I want to run errands in the cold or have things to do before a quick workout, I put on these flattering pants. They look good on everybody and they motivate you to go the gym after you are done running errands. They look better than rolling out of the house with baggy pajama-looking clothing. It’s a polished, clean look that’s easy to throw on. I have 20 pair of fold over yoga pants, and I don’t regret buying any of them. I wear them at some point everyday. I wear them when I’m lounging in front of the TV, going to my boyfriends or heading out to walk my dog.

Every woman needs a piece of clothing, or a beauty product, that she can rely on every single time. These are mine… hope you can benefit from them too!

Fashion Cents: Velvet Fashion for Fall & Winter

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

--By Kimberly Turner

Velvet does double duty – twice!

First, most people only think of velvet around this time of the year – holiday season. But this fall/winter velvet is a key trend. Now, you don’t have to wait until egg nog is pouring and mistletoe is being hung to pull out your favorite velvet pieces.

Second, velvet isn’t just for after five. While this luxurious fabric adds glam to your evening attire, it can also work with your day time attire. Pair a velvet jacket with a sheath dress or a velvet blouse with a tweed skirt for work appropriate looks. Plus, you can always add velvet to denim to dress up the casual look. Hmmm...I guess that makes triple duty for velvet.

So don’t just wear velvet once or twice to some evening affair this holiday season, enjoy wearing it all day and all fall/winter long. Make sense?

Nicole Richie wearing Modern Vintage Mack Spat Buckle Flat Boots
Modern Vintage Mack Spat Boots

$425.00
Available at: shopbop.com

Staying warm while maintaining a fashionable look is always a struggle during the winter months... particularly for those of us who are addicted to the pumps-sans-stockings look. Luckily, this winter there's a new fashion trend that manages to combine warmth and comfort with style. Leggings and flat boots will take you just about everywhere, except the professional office-- there's no avoiding that winter fashion challenge.

In this recent photo, Nicole Richie demonstrates the the leggings and boots look perfectly. Paired with an oversized sweater and luxe handbag, this ensemble doesn't sacrifice any style for warmth and comfort. The trick is to pick leggings that are thick enough to stand alone as pants and luxe boots to elevate the overall look.

Want to steal Nicole Richie's fabulous flat boot style for yourself? She's wearing the Modern Vintage Mack Spat Buckle Flat Boot. These wrinkled leather boots feature unique detailing like an attached spat-- that's a covering over the instep and ankle-- and distressed 1.5" stacked heel. Click through the photo to get an up-close and personal look. Not only are these chic boots perfect for pairing with leggings, they'll also look great with your favorite skinny jeans and could make for an interesting duo with a punky skirt look.

Steal: Forever 21 Opaque Winter Tights $5.80

Monday, November 09, 2009

Forever 21 Opaque Tights
Forever 21 Opaque Tights

$5.80
Available at: forever21.com

I have a love-hate relationship with tights. I love the way they look. I love how they can make a warm-weather favorite into a winter-appropriate outfit. I love how colors or patterns can turn a boring ensemble into something fashion-forward. But, there's a dark side to tights.

I am tall and slender, with disproportionately long legs. The tights available in discount stores and affordable mall stores just don't fit right. So, there's the luxe tights option-- but I'm way too accident prone for that. There's nothing like the feeling of running a pair of $45 tights the first time you put them on. I've been there and I don't want to go back.

Are you with me? If so, let me share my newest fashion holy grail discovery-- Forever 21 Opaque Tights. I found them by accident while searching for brightly colored tights for my Halloween costume. I was suspicious about their utility when I saw the "one size fits most" label-- but time was short and I was desperate. Turns out that Forever 21's Opaque Tights are perfect: they fit, they are thick and practically run-proof, they are comfortable, they pull on easily and quickly, and-- get this-- they are a mere $5.80 per pair. I suggest buying them in every color.

Click through the photo above to link directly to where you can purchase Forever 21 Opaque Tights-- in 7 colors-- online.

You really can't go wrong with a neutral suede pump with a bit of decorative flair, right? Nine West's company site is currently offering the most versatile version of this shoe-- Light Natural Suede-- at 45% off! A chic shoe for under $50 is hard to find. I'd snap this one up quick.

New & Hot: Jimmy Choo for H&M

--By Jules Newmark

Jimmy
Jimmy Choo for H & M

The excitement of top designers coming up with small collections for the everyday shopper at stores such as Target and H & M is definitely continuing into the Fall. The opportunity is fantastic for both of us - you and I can finally afford, without cringing, a pair of Jimmy Choo heels at H & M. The designers get their name out there even more and, of course, cash in on the lower cost production of their designs, marked up nowhere near the usual, but hey, we'll take it!

Tamara Mellon and M.I.A. - Jimmy Choo for H&M Launch
Tamara Mellon & M.I.A.

Jimmy Choo for H & M is the latest in a slew of designers for the chain store and everyone is taking notice! The launch party set in Hollywood November 2nd brought in Young Hollywood ranging from Paris and Nicky Hilton to M.I.A. performing and Hayden Panettiere. The capsule collection is a limited-edition (is probably nearly sold out already in people's dreams) and will be in around 200 H & M stores globally starting November 14th - ahh a few days away!! What should you look for? Well of course, the shoes, but the designers also came up with women and men's clothing, bags and accessories.

Founder and President of Jimmy Choo, Tamara Mellon said, "The Jimmy Choo for H&M collection embodies the attitude and spirit of laid back party glamour. Los Angeles is the perfect setting to launch the collection." DUH! LA is of course going to be covered in girls and guys sporting the brand as though it was from the actual collection at Jimmy Choo - and who could blame them? The pieces look fantastic and can be seen as a sneak peek in fashion magazines such as Elle in their sexy advertising spreads. You wanna see more of Jimmy Choo for H & M? HM.com will take you there - enjoy!!

How To: Make Perfume Last Longer in 4 Steps

Monday, November 02, 2009

--By Kim Moshtaghi

St. Ives Body Wash, Swiss Vanilla
St. Ives Body Wash

$4.89
Available at: drugstore.com

We all know someone who layers her perfume, making it difficult to breathe around her... and then there are the people that could use a few more sprays. Taking the middle road is the best way to go, but often the difficulty occurs when you're trying to keep the smell lasting longer without overwhelming yourself or others. There are just four easy steps to make perfume last longer.

Step 1: When taking a shower, try using a body wash with a similar scent as your perfume or buy the matching fragrance body wash. This will get your skin smelling wonderful and get your skin prepped with a fresh-smelling base. I use St. Ives Swiss Vanilla Body Wash because it goes well with my Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. The vanilla plays off the notes in Coco Mademoiselle. Try a body wash that complements your fragrance. This is a good start to for a longer lasting, yummy smell.

Eucerin Everyday Protective Lotion
Eucerin
Everyday Protection Lotion

$9.99
Available at: walgreens.com

Step 2: Know your skin type! Just like picking a face wash or face cream, knowing your skin type may determine whether you should go for an Eau De Toilette, Eau De Perfume, or Perfume. Eau De Toilette has between 3-8% compound combined with oil and water. Eau de perfume has 10-15% compound perfume solution, and perfume has the highest concentration at 25-50%. For example, if you have dryer skin you should opt for Eau de Perfume because your skin would have a harder time absorbing perfume, therefore decreasing the longevity. Typically Eau de Perfume will do the trick, but if you are really desperate try the potent Perfume. For a great smelling Eau de Perfume that typically lasts, try Chanel’s Allure. I found an amazing site that has fabulous fragrance deals. They're offering the 3.4 oz bottle of Allure for $96.75 compared to Nordstrom’s $115.

Step 3: Moisturize your body with scented or unscented lotion. Either way, moist skin will retain the fragrance better. Try Eucerin Everyday Protection Lotion to keep your skin soft with a healthy glow. For a citrus smell, try Bath and Body Works Coconut Lime Verbena-- you'll get triple moisturized and smell like an island.

Step 4: Be aware of your pulse points. Pulse points are the area where the vessels are closest to the skin. Applying fragrance on pulse points keeps your fragrance alive. The pulse areas are: temples, behind ears, base of throat, between breasts and behind the knees. So mist your pulse points and surprise yourself with whiffs of perfume throughout the day.

Stiletto Jungle Hits the Spring Accessories Preview

Monday, November 02, 2009

--By Pearl C.

Hi SJ Readers! I know I’ve been the MIA writer lately and I promise there is good reason for that. After landing a gig at a very cool new company and leaving my spacious West Hollywood apartment for a tiny little place in New York City, I have finally arrived. Helloooo NYC! And I’m off and running for you already.

I recently had the opportunity to check out some new jewelry and accessories at Succarra’s Spring Fling preview, where they hosted pieces by Kim Gilby, Suzanna Dai, Jessica Hicks, Joy O Designs, Sisco Family Jewels, Otrera, Jenny Bird, Audra & Delilah, Aurum Vitae for Tam Tran, I4D, IJA Designs, and Dean Davidson as well as shoes by Anyi Lu and swimwear by diNeila. Although I liked a lot of what I saw, there were some pieces and designers that stood out in my mind and one in particular that I’ll probably dream about tonight.

Anyi Lu is a designer from San Francisco who studied chemical engineering in school and has a passion for competitive ballroom dancing. A pretty good recipe for a shoe designer! She makes beautiful heels and flats, designed for comfort and flexibility but in high fashion styles. Check out this beautiful Carolyn flat in the Phoenix Pitone color. Great for walking around town and adding a bit of pop and sophistication to your work day. I also dug her Paige shoe in black/eggshell patent coloring because it gives the feel of the ballet flat with the style of the heel. Anyi Lu shoes are a hit at Nordstrom right now, and will also be carried in Bloomingdales soon.

Kim Gilby is a jewelry designer that caught my eye for her inventive use of materials. She uses feathers, chains, leather, stones, shells to create her unique pieces that showcase her vibrant personality and drawing influence from photography and music. She says “Some days I feel like being a girly girl, while others I feel like being a rock star.” I could definitely see this theme whispering to me as I perused her bracelets and earrings. Kim’s gold-filled peacock feather earrings are so cool and add a great slash of color to an understated wardrobe. The rocker chick in me was lusting for her Luzmery black diamond cut chain necklace and Angelina silver Swarovski ring in black/red shades while the glam girl in me was digging her Katie metal mesh scarf (personally I’d go for the purple iridescent).

Dean Davidson was inspired to create jewelry during a trip to Africa where he found hand crafted items in Cape Town and became motivated to construct his own pieces. I loved the brushed metal look to his jewelry, particularly the cuff bracelets. The marquise rings were beautiful as well, adding a little bling to the brushed metal look (loved the smoky quartz!). This is definitely a designer to keep on your radar.

Joy O Designs is hardly a secret amongst celeb circles. Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria, Anne Hathaway have been pictured wearing Joy Opfer’s whimsical designs. Her super thin bracelets and earrings were on my wish list as they were lightweight and versatile. The hammered angled bangles were so cool, and come in a set of 3 or 5 of mixed metals. I also really liked the simple thin cuffs, pictured on Cameron Diaz. And I must shout out her handmade hammered hoops that come in an insane variety of shapes and sizes.

Toronto-based Jenny Bird’s jewelry and purses stole my heart and kept luring me back to her table. Carmen Electra, Kelly Rowland, Whitney Port, Taylor Momsen and Rachel Ray seem to agree with me, as they also dig Bird’s designs. I was coveting her black studded pouchettes which were small and edgy enough for a late night out on the town. The piece that will be haunting me tonight is the leather and chain lariat, be still my heart. The lariat is from Bird’s aptly named Electric Lady line, and it’s several long chains pulled together with strips of leather; the ultimate concert accessory. I’m not sure I’d ever take it off.

Hope you guys enjoy this accessories preview as much as I did, and that you find something you fall a little in love with (or maybe a LOT).
